I know what you're going to say. Since when have web petitions done anything? I'm not going to pull out crappy examples to demonstrate my point, I'm just going to see to it that this gets the most attention it can.
Let me just say this...Meat would not be where he is without Jim. And I highly doubt Jim would be where he is without Meat. If you love Steinman's work, sign the petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/steinman/petition.html) to induct Jim Steinman into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
FireBall, I need your help, too, if you're listening. Give this campaign some attention in the rock press; call up all the favors you need to. Sign the petition yourself, I know you have Net access. Get those of your band who have worked with you and Steinman both (Kasim rings a bell) to sign it, too.
Let's do this, guys! Let's put Jim in the Hall of Fame!

its strange neither have been inducted.. rock musics best singer, and rock musics best writer, and both worked together with such success, but do they really care? what does it mean to be in the hall of fame?

I guess it's more of a honorary thing, but please everyone, don't take that kind of attitude. Imagine the prestige. And hell, it could even shift sales of BAT III a bit more.

As far as i can see if they won't put Meat into the hall of fame what chance has Jim really got?
I think both deserve it but i just can't see it, neither get the credit they deserve but i would say you have a better chance getting Meat Loaf into it, but i will sign the petition like i did the one for Meat Loaf!

I believe they way things work to get inducted, is that first you need to be nominated by your peers (NOT fans) then that goes through a selection committee. Signing a petition will do absolutely diddly-squat.
Wasn't it not long ago that a couple hundred KISS fans protested for them to be included into the RRHOF, which amounted to a big fat zero.
And on a personal note, I think it's a bit cheeky to be asking for people to sign a petition to get Jim inducted and not Meat aswell, especially on a Meat Loaf forum.
Pud

I think Meat's a little busy at the moment. He has a new single coming out in May which needs promoting and in the same month has his UK batch of the tour starting. I should imagine getting Jim into the HOF is the last thing on his mind.
I THINK MEAT SHOULD BE INDUCTED, WHY ISN'T HE?

In my opinion, most big music buffs like music which is slightly more contraversal (Sp?) and has slightly more "meaning". In their opinion, Meat Loaf's music is just ridiculous, overblown, bombastic, way too theatrical and way too soppy! These are all qualities we love about Meat's music but they are not always to everybodies taste.
well, we should put up a petition, maybe they'll take notice.
AQnyone else agree?
Don't think anybody will take any notice...
This thing is more political than anything else...

Meh. Whenever I find out that an artist that has in *MY* reckoning had an absolutely undeniable impact on the course of popular music ISN'T in the Rock hall of fame, I take it as a short coming of the hall of fame. ;)
I mean, why would Jim and Meat wanna bust a gut to be part of a group that wouldn't have them as a member?!?

the problem is that a lot of people see meat as a one album wonder and jim just happened to write it. all the fans know the truth of course , but that counts for diddley squat to the powers that be . would like to have seen bradley delp (rip) or tom scholz of boston get nominated but they are seen as a one album ( or worse , one song ) wonder also. sad but true.

I used to be of the opinion that Meat should be in the hall of fame, (and likewise Jim has more than earned his stripes) but after seeing all the political BS that surrounds "the honour," I'll just be keeping Meat and Jim in my personal hall of fame.

Exactly. Getting all worked up about who is and who isn't in the hall of fame is like getting worked up over the grammys!! :lawl: but for some reason people have it in their heads its of higher esteem than that... or they WANT it to be of higher esteem than that maybe.

Well i think its a bit of a running joke now as to who gets it and who doesnt, bit like these lifetime achievment awards, ooh and another one 'outstanding contribution' ;) artists are getting these for being big for 5 min these days, guess they ran out of quality performers who have served their time.
But yes Bohemian, i agree it is more a shortcoming of the hall of fame than a reflection on Meat or Jim
Hey...Peter O'Toole didn't win a single Oscar...haven't made him a lesser actor than he is...

dont get me started on the oscars
Take a look at how fast Meat Loaf concerts sell out, he is out-selling every single artist in the Hall of Fame. He is a true legend, I figure the judges probably don't agree with his style of music but so f**k, the man is outstanding. Steve McQueen never won an oscar and he is in my opinion the best actor to have graced the silver screen- there's often a lot of politics involved but people like McQueen and Meat Loaf don't compromise, the people know who truely are the great performers and they do not need an award or a position in a hall of fame to show them this.
