First of all
I know the meaning of "that" in AFL!
just to make that clear.
When Iīm talking with friends about music, and say Iīm a Meat Loaf fan, the first question is always what is "that"?
But thatīs not what I wanna talk about, cause this discussion has been often enough.
I kinda wondered about some fact back then, when CHSIB came out, and hadnt thought about it again, since somebody asked today what "it" in IACBTMN means.
so here it is:
Did I say that?
Why the hell did nobody ask what that means in DIST?
I havent heard that question not only once! Although thatīs the second most known song by Meat for the most people of my age. But why the hell does nobody ask for that??

It's fairly easy to understand...
# I stumbled on I love you tonight
But it sounded like goodbye
Did I say THAT...#
Is it just me or can anyone else understand this song aswell, it's pretty nifty, I like it alot:heart:.

wowow...
youīve got it exactly the wrong way!
I didnt say that I dont understand that, I said that nobody asks for that, like it is with AFL.
Thatīs slightly different...
I think nobody asked because it is fairly obvious...another collective for you...didn't you ever say something and then thought...oh my god...did I just say THAT???
Happens to all of us and actually is quite common occurence...

yeah, but that in AFL is as easy as this to understand, and still people ask.

It's easy to understand in AFL if you actually took your time, sat down and read the lyrics...if you just listen to the song...I can see how people didn't get it.

Yeah people didn't sit and have a proper listen. They just heard the one line and thought "Hmmm, wonder what it is he wont do?". Whereas loads of people actually use the phrase "did I say that?" in day to day life, so I guess they understand it without any thought. Does that make sense? Well I know what I mean anyway!
I have never been asked myself what 'that' is in DIST, mainly because it is not a well known Meat song, so , well nobody would ask really. ;)

Probably because a lot of people are as smart as you and they don't feel the need to ask for an obvious answer to the question.

Okay for the last one;)
in CHISB it is very obious:
"that" refers to the "yes" in the following lines:
So I asked myseld, "Do I love you so much
That I'm willing to let you gou?
At the top of my tongue the answer was "yes"
But, at the bottom of my heart I'm wondering...
Did I say that?
In ACB, you can't really refer to a line in the lyric. But, all in all, "it" are the memories of the passion of their love and also the bad thing, the breakup.
IWDAFL
Here it is tricky that the lyrics begin already with the "that". So with the first view, you can't make a connection to the lyrics but (IMO) go to the part with the girl:
After a while you'll forget everything
It was a brief interlude
And a mid-summer night's fling
And you'll see that it's time to move on
I won't do that, I won't do that
I know the territory - I' ve been around
It' ll all turn to dust amd we'll all fall down
And sooner or, later you'll be screwing around
I won't do that, I won't do that
Finished!
EDIT: IMO one thread with about that:lol: should be sticky, because all the new fans, which will join here after release bat3 and I think we wil not explain that:cool: much longer;)
