Not everyone's a big fan of Dead Ringer. I personally think that the album had a lot of wasted potential, and if Meat's really only going to use eight Steinman songs on Bat 3 (working title), who's to say he couldn't scavenge "Peel Out" or something else off of here?

Meat's albums have always been forward moving. For that reason, my favourites would always have to be counting the latest album as 1 back through time to 10. So any list I put here now would be outdated as newer stuff is released.
As for using stuff off Dead Ringer on Bat III, I see that as a backward move. Dead Ringer is a phenomenal album, and I have to agree in part that there was some wasted potential there. Nonetheless, I'd prefer to see it left intact as Dead Ringer.
Whilst I'd love to see Meat revisit and rerecord (or at least remix with a higher quality of production) songs he's worked on in the past I don't think they warrant inclusion on a "new" album.
As a bonus disc of remastered material alongisde the album release though would be fantastic...

Ooooh! Now you're talking. What a fantastic album/DVD combination that would make!

100% agree - something I have been banging on about for quite some time :) Don't see it happening really given that they are supposed to finish Bat 3 by end April. Maybe one day.
THAT WOULD ROCK!

Very hard to judge all this but I'll give it a try:
Note that I still regard position 12 on my list much better than any other good album from another singer/artist.
1. Bat out of Hell
2. Bat out of Hell 2
3. Live with MSO
4. Welcome to the Neighbourhood
5. Couldn't have said it Better (1st part would be in my top 3 for sure. 2nd part around 6-10 so I settled for 5 for this album)
6. Live Around the World (songs from WTTN missing damn it!)
7. Blind before I stop
8. Very best
9. Dead Ringer
10. Meat Loaf Live
11. Bad Attitude
12. Midnight at the Lost and Found
I suspect Bat 3 will change the higher positions of my favs list :)).

Re: Dead Ringer, I think it contains some of the most personal and passionate writing of Jim Steinman. Meat would have sang it a lot better in, say, 1988 (when his voice was at its best for the second time in his career: the first being in 1977).
All those songs are like a private confession from a guy who's going off the rails. Peel Out, Gonna Love her, Deserve, Kill You, Read 'em, Everything: this is one intense album! In ways, song-wise, it's superior to BAT 1. But the arrangements and the sound of Meat's voice leave a lot to be desired. If this had of been made with Todd (perhaps with co-production by Steinman) it would have been awesome. It would have had the full Jim arrangement, the Todd sounding production, and it'd (likely) stand up today. But it's still a great album, IMO. It's been a personal favourite for over ten years.
Bad Attitude and Couldn't Have Said it Better are, easily, the under-rated masterpieces of Meat's career. Midnight and Blind are complete rubbish. Back Into Hell was a Steinman production and not Meat Loaf. It wasn't the natural presence of Meat, the songs were too long and needed editing, and it seems to go on forever. I like it, because it introduced me to Meat and Jim (and it's a special album to me), but it could have been done a lot more interesting if Meat had more of a say. Most of the songs are impossible to play live
BAT is still the best album for me.
Bat is my favourite album too and it's deffinately the most personal and I'm not surprised that it sounds the best because if u think about it Meat and Jim had been performing the songs for a few years before they eventually got the album released so they knew them inside out and exactly what worked and what didn't plus the songs had a lot of meaning. I still feel in awe today how those two men had the determination and drive to make it big when the odds were entirely against them. In the midst of the punk and disco era, in an image centred industry Jim and Meat refused to accept no as an answer. Even when record producers were telling them people won't buy this, it'll never work they didn't give in on their dream and I thank God they didn't because we wouldn't have Bat Out of Hell if they did. Even if people aren't a Meat Loaf or Steinman fan they're story of success is still an inspiration to everyone and it makes me feel like I can achieve anything. Rock and Roll dreams really do come through.
I totally agree, Jaymze. :))
