View Full Version : Mercury Blues
I love the hidden track "Mercury Blues". :D
Meat and the band do it brilliant live. I love the guitar solo's. You rock Paul and Randy.
Who was it that first released the song :??: I know it's an old song alright. I think it was a country/western singer!!!! Does anybody know?
And is it true that Meat Loaf wanted it on "CHSIB" because he heard it on the radio when he was driving his car? and he went into the studio and said
"We have to do this song for the album"

Have a look at www.greenmanreview.com/K._c._douglas.html.
It was a K C Douglas song originally and was a #1 country hit for Alan Jackson In 1992. Many variations of the tune exist.
I thought Meat said he brought the CD in a petrol station and decided he just had to do it.
It's a blues song. It's very good, suits Meat Loaf.

I think he said he wanted to do a good driving song, heard it in a restaurant and decided to cover it(i might be wrong though).I myself have four different versions a slow blues version, two country and Meat's version. I have to admit though i like Meat's version, Alan Jackson's is my favourite

I hope he can find a way of getting live recordings of Mercury and Black Betty on a CD release. Probably not on Bat III as theses are not Bat song's but perhaps as add on's ( what in my teens was the B side ) to the Bat III single. Like he did with Man Of Steel.

Mercury Blues is an excellent rocking song, and if Meat had that to open a concert for a while instead of Lemon, there'd be no complaints by me.
I think it's pretty much a certainty that whatever Bat3 songs are released as singles, the extra tracks will be live performances of something, and I pray to God that they're not the usual Paradise, AFL or BOOH, and that Mercury or Black Betty finds their way onto the CD single.

Pud, I hope so too. Meat seem's to really love singing these's song's. I think they suit the maturity of his vocals.
I love pacey songs like these and drama song's like 2 out of 3. But yes, I've got alot of BOOH, Paradise, etc. recordings and I'd love to have M & BB live.
