Because i can't be the only Dr Who fan on the forums, a thread to talk about anything Dr Who related!

And just to start things off, a spoiler from the new series:

K9 will definitely be returning with Sarah jane in episode 3. The contracts have been signed with the people who own the rights to K9 but expect a bit of press querying about whether they will agree in order to get people talking.

And what will K-9 look like after all those years in the extra dimensions with Sarah?

I am a big Doctor Who fan as well, though the "new" series isn't shown in the US. I am a big fan of the Pertwee and Davison eras, but for some reason I never was terribly fond of the Tom Baker version- so your spoiler wasn't as big a thrill as (for instance) a return by UNIT or Turlough or Nyssa. I haven't seen anything past first few the Sylvester McCoy shows, but I'll be glad to chat about anything related to DW!

The Master is going to return.

He is going to be played by Anthony Head (Star of buffy and Nescafe ads.) and there will be a morph scene thingie where the old actor morphs into the new one!

Just looked at your spoiler Chris. Anthony Head also played Frank'n'Furter on stage in The Rocky Horror Show. Hmmmm The Master in fishnets and suspenders .... that would be different! :lmao:

Given that it would have the Master in fishnets, a camp Casanova playing the Dr and is to be written by Stephen Fry....

....the mind boggles at what it will be like!!!

I enjoyed the last series of Dr Who! I'm surprised this is the first post on the subject! I've seen a couple of the old ones with my brother and parents, and me and brother were laughing a lot where we shouldn't have been! There was a part with an evil woman who wanted something the Dr and his assistant had, and they played piggy in the middle with her for about three seconds before she keeled over and died, and you realised she's a robot of some sort. Then a Dalek came over the hill and began to say "Extermin -" and then it blew up! :? Then there was this green alien person in one of those things like a big baby walker that they sit in with wheels in who my brother used to be scared of (bless! ), and you could see the actor had to really move his feet to make the thing move!
I'm starting to miss the new episodes, I don't watch a lot of TV as it is, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment! :D

I'm puzzled as to how the Master can return!

If i recall correctly, the Master is a time lord who turned evil. In the last series the Dr said he was the last of the Time Lords as the rest had perished in the Final Time War.:shock:

The best baddies were without doubt the Cybermen.:shock::shock::shock:

And the actor who played The Master was killed in a car crash (I think).

I was dubious about how good the re-vamped show would be but I really enjoyed it. Good storylines with humour added too made a great package. I thought that "killing" the losing contestents on Big Brother and The Weakest Link was a brilliant idea and the farting aliens and Second World War episodes were really well thought out, plus they even made us feel sorry for the last remaining Dalek.

The Daleks and the Ice Warriors were the most scary for me.

Chris
28 Aug 2005, 20:25
He did - Roger Delgado.

They are using old footage of him and morphing it into Anthoney Head for a regeneration.

The Ice Warriors were scary- to be honest, i was scared of most of the villains!!!

Yeah, the farting aliens were great - my kids were just as scared of the new 'monsters' as I was when I was their age - except they spotted the woman farting alien guest-starring in Casualty/Holby last night straight away!!

Will be great to see the Cyberman back too...so who do we think played the 'ultimate' Doctor?

Chris
28 Aug 2005, 23:26
I don't think there is an ultimate Dr.

Each of the actors has played the different incarnations in such different ways.

William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton both seemed to play very moralistic Drs who were out to do good deeds whereas Eccleston was a much more humourous and mischievous Dr.

I kinda liked McCoy's version but only because that wqas the one from my era. All the rest were the old Doctors!

The only one I cannot stand is Tom Baker as I cannot abide him in anything! (I know a dodgy story about him but it isn't overly suitable for this forum!!)

If I had to choose I would say Ecclestone is the best so far.

Having said that, the early clips of some of Tennant's scenes from the Christmas Invasion are brilliant.

Just remembered the other day that a little while ago I had a dream that a Dalek was chasing me through Sunderland city centre!! It was so scary and so not fair as the town was packed with people yet it was singling me out to chase! And you know how Daleks move quite slowly? Well I was running faster and faster to get on my bus home so I'd be safe, but the Dalek kept catching me up even though it was going at normal speed and............!!!! It finally caught me up and exterminated David Tennant's Dr, who just appeared beside me then out of nowhere, and I can't remember what happened after that, but still............scary!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I know that Roger Delgado (my favorite of the two actors to play "the Master") died in a car accident, but another actor (Anthony Ainley is the name that is popping into my head, though that could be wrong) played him in the Davison era- perhaps he will be used rather than old footage of Delgado?

Time to return from gazing in to the vortex at the heart of the TARDIS to bring you yet another spoiler.

This morning contracts were signed for Tom Baker to make his return to the series. He will be playing the mouthpiece of the Time Lords.

It is highly likely that the storyline will mean that The Dr sees his previous incarnation as the front of ther Time Council whereas if the Master was summoned by them he would see his own previous incarnation.

Although the contracts have been signed, negotiations are still being carried out over whether Baker will be seen or just heard. Technically the Dr will not be allowed to see him but that rule was abandoned by the Time Council in both "The Three Doctors"a nd subsequently in "The Five Doctors".

It does also appear that the Time Wars must have not destroyed all the Time Lords as suggested in series 1. My money would be on the Dr containing a secret of gallifrey in his head and so being made to believe he was the last one to prevent him utilising the knowledge!!

I remember those!! I liked it when they had UNIT ... I think it was partly because aliens on earth brings it home more than on another planet (or that silly skin stretched thin episode of this series, although I like all the others).

Is Jon Pertwee still alive?

Chris
05 Oct 2005, 23:55
As far as I know he is.

The stretched skin thing was called Cassandra and she will be back in series two but it will be earlier in time before she became just a piece of skin.

sherrie87
06 Oct 2005, 03:56
Sadly, Jon Pertwee died of a heart attack while on vacation here in the States in May of 1996, at the age of 76.

I met the three major member of UNIT in 1984, when I was 15, and I was absolutely enamoured with them for a good 2 or 3 years. Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier), Richard Frankin (Mike Yates) and John Levene (Sgt Benton) were somehow convinced to come to a "UNIT Reunion" Doctor Who convention in August in Tampa Florida, and the air conditioning went out on the first day of the three day con. They were absolutely melting, all of my photos feature sweat soaked UNIT folks. John Levene goes by a completely different name now (I can't remember what it is), and is an actor and caberet performer on cruise ships in the US. Hows that for useless DW trivia?

Yet more Dr Who related gossipy goodness for you all!

There is to be a new spin-off series of Dr Who.

In the last series we met Captain jack who is obviously some sort of alien as he has access to time travel devices and the like.

Well, there will be a spin-off starring Captain jack as part of a team who track down and investigate alien technologies and the like when they are stolen or used maliciously.

The series will be written by Hunter T. Davies who is the current driving force behind Dr Who. The team will be featured in series 2 of Dr Who and then the separate series will be launched.

However, hunter Davies has said that it will not feature time travel which kind of intrigues me!

EDIT> there is no point putting this as a hidden spoiler - the BBC have already run the story. The show is to be called Torchwood. (think anagrams!!)

Diane

It is the same actor. Signed up for a feull season plus christmas special and a couple of guest appearances in he new Dr Who as well.

Reading some of the comments that are floating abut this new programme, it looks distinctly like it could be a sort of UNIT type place. It certainly looks good.

Right, in the last series, we saw the idea of a theme being continued throughout the entire show, namely that of Rose & Bad Wolf.

Well, there is a theme to the current series. Some people may ahve already started to twig - Start thinking about what Queen Victoria kept repeating and how Sarah Jane & K9 were removed from the show all those seasons ago!!

I now know what the series is building up to and what the underlying theme of series 3 will be along with why the Dr (in Season 3) will be summoned to appear before the time lords.

The cybermen are searching for something that the Dr cannot find out about.

In the final episode he discovers that many eons ago, the Time Council imprisoned the Supreme Dalek (even more important than the Emperour Dalek) in an eternal prison constructed in the fringes of hyperspace. thjis lef the Supreme Dalek outside the time stream adn unable to be contacted or returned to normal time/space continuums without a special device.

The dalek has therefore been unaffected by both the Time Wars and Bad Wolf as Rose used the time space vortex to attack them which cannot enter the dalek's prison.

The Dr discovers the plot to free the dalek too late and he is freed by the Cybermen. The Supreme Dalek pulls an a\rmy of Daleks from other realities and the cybermen's plan turns against them. There is an almighty battle to the death between the daleks and Cybermen with the Daleks winning.

One unusual thing is that the dalek appears to be a unique design and is all black. At the very end of the last episode the top casing flies off. instead of revealing the usual brain mass of a Kaled, we see the most evil creature of all - Davros!!!:shock:

And who is alledged to be playing this fiend - Sir ian mcKellen.

Hmmmm, So according to the Face of Boe, The Doctor is not alone. Now, does that mean that the Master will be back (he fell into the Eye of Harmony when it resided in the TARDIS which will have granted him further regenerations).

I think that somehow it will all be linked to The Professor (played by Derek Jacobi later this series) which Dr Who fanatics will be aware was a previous nickname for the Doctor.

I see we are to meet the Doctor's family soon. After all, he once did tell us he was a father once. And we have already met his son ;)

I don't remember a son (but I'm no expert!) but I do remember seeing repeats of the first episodes (with William Hartnell) and he had his granddaughter Susan living with him. The first ever episode was her teachers trying to find where she lived (IIRC) and discovering the TARDIS.

Btw, we have the daleks next week in 1930s New York!

I've only seen bit parts of the older series, and found them very funny but for the wrong reasons! However I love the recent series. I like it because it sort of takes you where you can't travel to, if you know what I mean. I've always liked the idea of travelling in time to see significant events, meet historical figures, see future historical figures. For example, if I had a TARDIS, first time I'd go to would be the Cretaceous period to see a T-Rex! Then I'd go to the Moon, see the Earth from there, and explore space, because it's so beautiful but we don't know what it looks like and can never see it up close, but I'd love to go there! Only a TARDIS could take you to the farthest reaches of the universe and get you home in time for tea without taking thousands of years to get there. And of course, I'd take my camera with me! For me, Dr Who sometimes takes me to those places. I know it's all fantasy and made up, but visually it's lovely!
Also I love K-9 and enjoy the Dalek episodes, I like the way they move, really graceful-like :D
