This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!

Masculine (6)

I think this is the song where the lyrics is better than the music. The lyrics is really good, but the music isn't Meat Loaf! I think it wanted to be harder rock in the '80 style.
The live version in Wembley is better. I'm missing the intro on the album. I think it would sound funny from Meat's mouth in concert: "I'm Masculine"... like "I'm a Sex God"!

My score: 6

Average: 6.86 (48/7)

I see that you've never heard this song from 1991 live version.
I have one recorded in Köln 1991 and there is a Sex God part in the middle of the song.

I think this song is the best of the album, but like most songs from this album, it is live at his best. Great rock and great lyrics.

My score: 8

 I think this song is a characuture of Meat's sex god status.I think he's poking fun at himself a little  .
On the album it's good, but the Wemberley 87 version is better. The 1991 version sounds interesting. What is his sex god speech?
7/10 Feeling pretty good.

The sex god part was also played in 1989 in Alkmaar, Holland.
This song rocks. Both on the album and live.
8/10

A thought so, because I think he started the Sex God part in 1989.

I never cared for this song. Not ML's kind of R&R. It doesn't work for me at all. What was this supposed to be? An answer song for Olivia Newton John's "Physical"? 2/10 not even a strong ML vocal can save this.

Please don't be offended by this remark:

I got a little uncomfortable with the lyrics of this song.

In many ways, its kinda, beg my pardon please, Gay (not in the bad sense).

Meat sings about masculine, a man's only thing, and could really see Elton john Singing this.

But otherwise , great song - 8 / 10

I hope nobody's offended

'Blind Before I Stop' is the only Loaf album which is completely un-pleasurable for me ~ clippety-clop euro pop - yuck! - but the 1987 Live At Wembley versions ('Masculine', 'Blind Before...' and 'Rock N Roll Mercenaries') do kick the required amount of ass :-)

BBIS > Midnight at the lost & Found

i might be the only person around who prefers MATLAF over BBIS. I know it's only a bunch of demos thrown together, but I like the country vibe on it. In some kind it doesnt take itself too seriously. It knows it's a mediocre attempt and just has fun with that mediocrity (sp?).
While BBIS is just a colosally failed attempt at a fullblown production.

I concur with all that, RadioMaster.

A pity im teh only one on this site that thinks BBIS > BOOH3

in fact its better then everything except BA and BOOH I and II

Side note, BA > BOOH II > BOOH

BBIS could have been brilliant ~ if Meat didn't sound like he was singing in the bathroom next door, and if the 'non-proper-instruments' were taken down in the mix.

BA is solid gold ~ agreed.

Masculine is a good, entertaining song when performed live. I love how he did it in 1991 - as if he was James Brown.

clippety-clop euro pop

Whoever chose Frank Farian as the producer obviously had not heard this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb_B_xtrdxc

well, maybe it wasnt really a choice. Let's not forget that this was one of the lows in his career, so maybe Farian was the only one willing to do the job, or the only one Meat and his management (or whoever) could afford at that point.

Rating:

THIS SONG IS A MASTERPIECE!

And Neil, the sex god speech in the middle has no bearing on the "The Dream Goes Further Then Its Ever Gone Before" speech he did on the LB&GG shows....
