A heart attack last night whilst holidaying in Peru.

It was first released unofficially at 1pm with a request for news feeds to withold it until 2pm to ensure all family was informed first.

The greatest DJ of all time. He opened mine and milions of others ears to music that we never would have heard were it not for him.

The man had both a genuine love of music as well as a remarkable talent for picking out the very best and helping them on their way to stardom.

Many peoples lives are going to be much poorer without him in the world. Not least of all thousands of bands across the country for whom John Peel was someone who actually cared, someone who would actually take the time to listen to every cd he received and then strived to help all he could.

John Peel - RIP. Keep rocking in heaven. You'll never be forgotten
