Got it! Seen it! Love It!
Picked it up today in person from Sound Of Music, Essen, Germany,
(www.soundofmusic.de).
Finally the reall magic of a Meat Loaf show is captured on video! Unlike in these scaled down productions for TV, all the elements that make it so special are there! I especially adore the over-the-top extended versions of Frying Pan, Testify and Mercury. And For Crying Out Loud benefits from double female background vocals and orchestra! Have not seen the standards yet, cause had to play these songs on heavy rotation so far.
Meats vocals are as fantastic as they are on one of these great nights out! Fortunately they did not polish them note-perfect and sterile, they kept the passion.
There is only one thing better than this: attending a show live inside the venue, where i.e. the lights and the drums naturally can be experienced even more impressive. Minor complaints?: The many camera shots from down to top are not favorable. And to me a few songs loose power with the addition of the orchestra.
Get your hans on it and tell your neighbours you`ll be back on mother earth sometime soon...

I got mine today too, and just watched the entire concert from beginning to end. I agree with everything you've said Michael ... except for your minor complaints, because I have none at all !! To me everything was absolutely perfect :)) I'm just glad I still have a 2nd copy coming from Amazon, because I'm already planning on wearing this one out !!

One night with the DVD - and the excitement has even increased!
Meat definately got over his anxiousness of cameras that night.
There are a million things to discover, visible and audible! Won`t spoil it for you. But even those that have seen the tour multiple times have a lot to explore. And now all of us travelling around multiple shows have proof why we do that!
Sorry Chris, not seen the bonus disc yet. No way to get my eyes and ears of the concert disc in just one night!

I know why we all did as well Eva :D and part of it was to see your lovely smiley face and to hear your wonderful laugh :D

It's days like today I really wish my dvd player was properly region free, as opposed to being region free when it felt like it - the perils of being a gadget freak and getting technology when it's brand new rather than waiting a while till they add all the bells and whistles I guess.
Still the anticipation of a Meat show is not far off actually attending one, and I've got my night in front of the TV booked ready for when my copy does arrive! Can't wait!! Thanks Michael for the teaser taster of what's in store :D

Michael,
HOLY BAT S***, how true! What a day. I came home from work and Jules said you HAVE to see this! 8O
Well, we were lucky enough to see the theater release, which only showcased 7 songs, but that was very cool to see it on the big screen. Then got the CD here last week, the music is awesome, agreed.
But the DVD blew me away. Since we were familiar w/ the music part already the commentary part was the biggest surprise. Meat rocked throughout. I won't give anything away, but it had me laughing so hard I was crying! The band's comments were hysterical.
"Back on mother earth", yep I was I was blown away for a few moments. IMHO, with the visuals and the personal commentary, I think this is probably the best product Meat has ever released. :D

I know exactly what you mean Chris !! I can't stop watching it either :))
And I absolutely agree .. it's definitely his best and truly amazing !!

I received the DVD yesterday in the mail and just finished watching it for the second time through. Thank you so much to everyone involved in this production, I am almost beyond words. Almost. ;)
It is just fantastic!!!! I LOVE the music with the MSO in consort with the band, and everyone gave beyond an amazing performance. Paul Crook's lead guitar is AWESOME, omigod!! Patti and CC are both totally gorgeous, and Meat was so lucky to have these two very talented and beautiful women to support him... just everyone turned in beyond their best and how lucky are we all to have this on DVD???
Thank you Meat for the gift, and long may you rock.
Not chilly in California today, ;)
Di
... who was TOTALLY blown away by FCOL, and yes, I think you gave it beyond your best! :D

 Chris, that is one thing i'm REALLY looking forward too 8) .
I'm hoping Meat talks about the images he conjours up while he's singing, and what he thinks about while he's singing. That would be an awesome insight to how the man works :D .
I agree Chris, the commentary is just the best. As you, I don't want to give anything away to those that want to be surprised, but I'll just say the ccommentary is revealing and sometimes there's a bit of his typical BS. I think it 's priceless. :D
And folks might want to look for the banner hanging from the front row, very cool. 8)

Got the DVD and CD today (strange they came on same day as CD dispatched from Amazon.com 10 days ago and the DVD from the same place only 4 days ago, but I'm not complaining!)
DVD was absolutely amazing! Meat sounded stunning throughout, the orchestra were brilliant on all the the tracks where the full orchestra was playing (tended not to notice them so much when only a few intruments were present) and Crying out loud gave me goosebumps all the way through!
Definately well worth the wait, and I'm sure that the CD will be on my disc-man for a long time to come (well, until the UK version with the extra tracks comes along  )

Got my DVD on Friday (and have been posting all over the place this morning telling everyone!). WOW and WOW! I totally agree with the comments that this is best DVD ever, the commentary DVD is really funny and give so many insights into 'the team'...nice to see.
As for the concert(s) - I agree Paul Crook was fantastic, and Patti and CC gave it everything they had as usual. What a great way to see the NLE (from many more angles than just my usual 'speck in the distance'!). Meat's performances were out of this world - oh yes, he's still got the power and the passion hasn't he? Also loved the coverage of Mark, John and Randy. I suppose the only thing I wasn't sure about was the 'dancing girls'...BUT I thought the addition of the orchestra really made the most of some of the tracks - and as for the boy's choir...awwww.
Phew, need an emotional rest..
Well, Vicki
I have watched it the entire weekend. Over and over again. its amazing. The performance is outstanding. I wish to thank the director. He did a great job. Meat has a lot of energy and still got power.
favorite performances at this stage is Out of the frying pan. The monologue in the end is typicle Meat and is 100% perfectly done. As i said, the director did a great job. he has "an eye" for detail.
Well, only one thing i would have done different: instead of All revved up I would like to see heaven can Wait instead, because the version on the cd is brilliant.

I'm hooked on Out Of The Frying Pan too now.
I really enjoy All Revved Up on the DVD .... but you're absolutely right about Heaven Can Wait. It's brilliant on the CD, and would have been amazing to see him sing it live.

The fact that \\"Heaven Can Wait\\" isn't on the DVD is logically explained by the fact that it wasn't played on the 20th (http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=86687#post86687#87047) or the 22nd (http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=87447#post87447).

You know, from the commentary I got this feeling Meat was having just a bit of tongue in cheek fun with the dancers... a bit of a spoof perhaps on other entertainers, and also because he could? ;) Regardless it was a great way to bring some of the community into the show, do something a bit more than the more usual, and I bet the men did and will enjoy them thoroughly. 8)
The boy's choir was darling. Too cute, and Meat was too.
I get that emotional rest thought btw. ;)

Wasn't the MSO concerts for 4 days but they only did the camera work for 2 of the concerts??? Which would explain why Heaven Can wait wasn't on the DVD but on the CD. They probably took the CD direct from the soundboards.

ok, so i got my dvd today as soon as the shop& opened, lol. and have been watching it ever since. i thought at the start it would ruin my memories of the concerts i went to this year but it didnt. Patti was rocking on it as usual, but on the commentary i think meat kinda talked about cc too much which i have to comment on because im biased. i thought the mso were good, and their input wasnt too over the top and prominent to take it away from the origianal sound of the music. u have too watch it in order like i did. the back stage thing, then the concert, then the concert with commentary. Could not believe it when MEAT CONFIRMED A TOUR FOR BAT 3 HOW WICKED COOL. then i got into fan mode thinking whne it would be, id have to save money. have to ring up 4 tickets wicked early, will it be the same band cos thats very important, but then meat said the present never land express is the best rocking band in the world and all of them will be back. see how u think that this dvd was the ur last taste of meat on tour, and then u get the best news since the last tour release dates. Ne way gone on for abit. so will just say ROCK ON MEAT LOAF AND THE NEVERLAND EXPRESS. THAT ROCKED

I also think couldnt have said it better sounds incredible!
The free DVD was a great treat. :-)

Thanks so very much Meat Loaf!! You are still a rocking legend and always will be!

Hi Rosie !
I had the same problem .. and figured out that I had gotten a fingerprint on the back of the DVD  Once I wiped it off with a light cloth it worked fine.
Have you tried cleaning the back of the DVD first ?
Just a suggestion before you send it back to Amazon.

You know Vicki, I have had this DVD for about ten days now, and I am still just thrilled with it! This is not the concert I saw in Los Angeles. Everyone in this did an awesome job, their absolute best, and what a gift for the fans!!! The music is being given the very best from all involved, and my heart is singing!
At the center of it is Meat, with his passion and love for the music, sensitivity, humor, and that wonderful sense of humility... he just got me. He is not perfect, never claimed to be, and that is one of his most redeeming and endearing qualities for me on this recording.
I am so grateful for the visuals and capturing Patti, CC, and the band on DVD. How fun is this? :D I cannot decide what the heck song I am enjoying the most, I keep bouncing around and falling for a different one each time I watch it. I can say that I LOVE the pieces from CHSIB, they ROCK ON! I have always been more of a Steinfan, but WOW, I am sold on these songs as well. ;)
The DVD has been a light in this life, and it is so great to see so many people so darn happy at one time. :D Makes it very fun to be a fan. 8)

Wow!!!!! HMV had it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went down very early, phoning ahead just in case. Had to wait til after school to see it, had to watch the lsat twenty mins and ll the bonus stuff on computer when Mam and Dad came home :( My neck was killing me after being in that tiny room half the night!
But it was worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Very excited for Bat 3 tour (we all knew that was coming! ). Loved FCOL and 2OO3AB!
What I would have done if I'd directed it, I would have had lots of cameras focused on all of the band, and have an option to watch whoever you want for two and a half hours! I'd have mine on Meat all the time, Emily can have hers on Paul!!! That would work!!!!!!! :D
Just seen the advert for the album on telly. Was expecting the usual tonne of adverts for loans etc that they have on during the day when the man himself just appeared on my TV! Nearlly dropped my toast!
Really trulli - ITV? (Worth switching on for!) If so, it's great news that there's some effort being put into advertising..

The DVD is really pretty cool. Man, did I laugh about the featurette... :D
This is not the concert I saw in Los Angeles.
What was wrong in Los Angeles?
Eeek! Can I plead off topic? ;)
Cyndi Lauper is a good start to what happened… omigod I hope he NEVER does that again. Long break in between their sets, half the audience gone… and if you saw the Mexico City tape, that is pretty much what we got. I had the feeling that he was not feeling well, he sounded off on some of the Steinsongs to me... Concert ended well after midnight, and the audience had seriously dwindled. :( Patti was GORGEOUS though, I remember being beyond impressed with her that evening…
To put this back on topic… Have I said yet that Paul Crook is not only a rocking guitar player, but he is absolutely beyond fun to look at additionally on the DVD? ;) *Di now has visions of another round of DVDitis directly after the workday’s conclusion*
Hey, I had to come up with something to get back on topic and out of the corner. ;)
Gosh I am ready for Bat III and then some California concerts! We are owed at least two ya know, one of which is in my local venue. The Antelope Valley would still love to see Meat show up… but anywhere Western Pacific would be fine as well. :)
Di
… still smiling… and hoping to see the DVD promoted in the US!! Anyone think there is a chance of it??? 8O

Hi Di !
I'm sorry to hear about your experience in LA., and I know I was very fortunate that I got to see the two great shows that I did. To be perfectly honest with you, I remember at the time saying that if the show at the Borgata in Atlantic City was the last time I ever saw Meat live, that was ok .... because it was (and still is) such a positive memory for me.
But I couldn't agree more with you about the DVD !! It was an amazing event .. not just for Meat, but for everyone involved ... and I'm truly grateful that they captured it on DVD so that we could all share it :)
I can't tell you how many times I've watched it since the night I brought it home .. and like you, I keep jumping from one favorite song to another.
At first it was FCOL (because the level of emotion that he brings to the song is nothing short of amazing) but then it jumped to Mercury Blues (because of the interaction with the band) then Out Of The Frying Pan ... and Testify (both of which are really growing on me !)
It's truly incredible .. and I hope that everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy it for themselves before too long !!
Vicki
All I can add here...is that not ONE person who has seen the DVD is less than impressed. 8)

Not being funny Vicki but I wasn't aware you went to Melbourne to see the shows!!!

Oke, Di. Yes i felt very sorry for Meat when i watched the Mexico tape (which i got from V., hee V., you're the greatest! 8) ). I could see he was not feeling well. But remember that the director had not a great day either and the sound was poor too. I think the schedule during this tour was too euuh how you say it in english, too tight? too much dates?.
The Melbourn dvd is great because Meat did not do any other show in February.
I got the DVD and CD on Monday, been listening to them both all the time, gotta say they are truly excellent. Meat's voice is superb. I only have one little problem. On the DVD both the Dolby Digital and DTS soudtracks play through my amp fine. My amp is compatible with both formats, the sound is absolutely amazing, like i am there. The problem is with the DVD you get with the CD. The dolby digital sountrack for CHSIB and DIST video's the sound won't come out. It does for the stereo track, but not for the 5.1 track, just silence. Has anybody else had this problem. :D

Stupid thought maybe, but is there actually a surround mix of those video's? Cause if there ain't, you can't hear it, now do you?
There is an option on the disc between stereo and surround, and the DVD player is picking up the 5.1 track but the amp isn't.

Does anyone else get a sound gap during Frying Pan? Or is it just really bad editing.

About 2 minutes into the song. The sound goes. Doesn't last long, but it's noticeable

In WH Smiths printed wall charts (i dont know if they are midweek or how they work it out) but the album is Number 8, and the DVD is number 1 in he charts. these are proper writen charts too so not just a case of someone packing the dvd out in whatever slot was available.
i got it also :D :D the limited CD/DVD version and the DVD for only 46 Euros 8)

What does that mean? They edited?

Winston, I still think that has to do with the layer-change of the DVD since it's approx. halfway through the show. Your player might have some problems with it changing from one layer to another.
Did you experience something similar on any other DVD?
Winston

I've had no problems with any other DVD's. Just this one.

I've had this problem on my Region 1 copy on the DTS soundtrack only. Its definately not the layer change as that happens in For Crying Out Loud.
Just bought the Region 2 copy to see if its fixed on that one as I doubt I can send my copy of the Region1 dvd back to Amazon.com.
That fault is the only thing that spoils the DVD for me

Vicki
Well, I had tickets to three concerts, the other two that were cancelled were without Cyndi, and one was at the very small theatre in my town that only seats 800 people, I had second row seats for that one. *sigh*
Concerts are great and a memory indeed, but the recording is something that will live on and can be played over and over... :D Common Bat III!!! ;)
I cannot get over the quality of the band in this DVD, it is UNREAL. Gosh Mercury Blues and Testify ROCKS. Eek! FCOL is beyond a gift.... it would have been something special to be there, what a tug at the heartstrings that would have been. :)
Patti and CC are both gorgeous, but CC is beyond radiant on these particular nights... I am very impressed and I am certain she is going to have no trouble finding work in the future. ;) Been reading a bit of feedback here and there on too much CC, so the last couple of times I watched my thoughts sorta were... well yes, the camera loves her and I can see them spending time in that direction, and... heck! She just stands out! But you know, nothing can take away from the beauty and security that is Patti I think... there is a woman that is so full of personality, strength, talent and depth it feels to me. Both women are total assets and Meat was one lucky man to have them on that tour.
Could have used a lot more shots of Kasim though.... a bit disappointing in that aspect, and I wouldn't have minded more of the orchestra as well.
I just wonder when I am going to get sick of it.... can you wear out a DVD? 8O
Di
.... trying her best to do just that.... ;)
P.S. Glad you can still edit within a half hour 'cause I have sticky lunch time finners... I mean fingers! 8)

I don't have any problems with the actually sound on the Live DVD on any of the soundtracks. Different makes of players handle layer change differently. I have a Sony DVD player and I never seem to have a problem with it. The only problem I have is with the DVD I got with the Cd which I mentioned earlier. No sound on the 5.1 track of the CHSIB and DIST video's.

Finally managed to watch the DVD last night and I must admit its bloody excellent. Probably the best live dvd i have ever seen and ever will!!! :D 8O
The extra features are a real treat and quite funny. Especially like the bit when Kasim is talking about his salary!
I think this show almost forces Meat to take the orchestra on tour next time. That's probably a bit too costly tho!
The bit at the very end (dont want to spoil it for people who havent seen it tho) when you see Meat standing on stage and you hear the final note of Bat out of Hell and the camera pans along him is amazing and brought me to tears!!! One of the most powerful performances ever!!!
Way to go Meat! Your performance was amazing as always.....

We were lucky enough to see Meat in concert in Birmingham and he was brill but he looks so much better (healthier) on the dvd.
Thanks Meat for releasing the DVD.

My DVD is Region 1 (as I couldn't wait until it was released here!) and it's fine. I don't think I even got the full depth of it until I listened to the CD - I'm full of admiration for Mark Alexander in particular who has to lead in for a lot of the songs - a tough job when Meat was at his improv. best! :D
As for the orchestra, wow - I've never heard such great production with a rock band - usually it takes weeks or months in the studio - how did they do it with the limited time they had to rehearse? Hats off! The MSO so wonderfully complements the music and MEANING in all of these songs we love...every time I listen to the CD I hear something else I didn't spot in the meantime.
It's great news how well the CD and DVD are doing in the charts - maybe if they get right to the top Meat will be flown over to take credit in person..?

in most cases the first week chart position is the highest the album acheives as most people buy the cd as soon as it comes out. Id imagine itll fall down the charts from now on.

As far as I can see the album is at position 14 in the UK album top 100. Hopefully it will get higher than that in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
According to BBC. The live DVD has entered at position #2 in the music DVD chart. Only that old ~~~~~~ cliff is outselling him at the moment:

There is another review of the DVD to be found here:
http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&s=2&c=1116
The guy is pretty positive but he doesnt get the fact Meat Loaf was totally having a laugh at the Q&A section. The fact that his answers were so short I thought was hilarious and I'm sure he did not mean this to be proper answers really.
Quite liked the review - after all, he asks people to go and buy the DVD! I've just bought the David Bowie DVD which is 3rd in the chart for my partner as it's his birthday today but have 2 Meat DVD's so don't feel too guilty!
:D Just got paid so rushed out to buy my DVD. Wow !! its brilliant, felt very tearful during FCOL, he gave it everything he had. He looks so much better now, when I saw him at Wembley he looked very tired.
Will have to hide it now before my hubbie pinches it. !!
Thanks MEAT.
Well my hubby's birthday was yesterday and 2 people sent him the DVD and CD as well as my copy so I don't feel guilty at all now!
I really love Paradise (on the DVD and CD) as the way that Meat and Patti play around is fantastic. I've mentioned Mark Alexander and Paul but listening to the CD really brings out John's brilliant drumming - BOOH is a great example...

I got the DVD for my birthday, it was brilliant! It really brought back memories of the concert I was at last December. I loved everything about the concert DVD, the dancers on All Reved Up, the boys choir on Testify, the floating couch on Anything For Love and every other bit of detail. The Featurette on the second disc was really funny. It makes me burst out everytime.
"This is really stupid!"
"I don't like the way you talk to me!"
"You gonna do this to me? I swear I'll eat you and the piece of paper!"
"Just hold the damn sign!"
"No we don't have time! I'm talking to him now!"
"You're really breakin my chops right now and I'm getting annoyed!"
There is one problem with my disc, it stops during Frying Pan. First time I watched the disc it jumped during CHSIB and Paradise. It was fine the third time I watched it and it was fine for a few times then onward. But now it stops during Frying Pan. But it's a great disc anyway. I watch the CHSIB performance when I go to bed.

Got my copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been watching it all afternoon and what wonderful memories it bought back. This was recorded only a few weeks after I saw him last at Sheffield and boy does he look well! there is a certain glint in his eyes and you can see he is really enjoying himself.
I loved everything about it, my only gripe (and its not one really) is the front row looked like they were stuffed! What is wrong with these people? i would give anything for a front row ticket to see my man! I sure wouldnt be sat there tapping my foot! I have seen Meat 8 times and have never got that front row, 2nd row but never front. its one of my must do's in life.
I had to laugh at my 4 year old, as soon as it started he was up and rockin! Even had his hand up to his mouth pretending its a microphone! he was not impressed when FCOL came on as its too slow for him! He is definatley his mothers son!
I know what you mean Christabales - my 6-year-old drags Dad up to do Paradise when it comes on - and she's as good as him!
Wasn't the commentary excellent?
(p.s. LOVE the Christmas Smileys!) :D

Treat myself to the dvd last week as it was my birthday, brilliant dvd, have watched the bonus disc and the commentary on the main disc, have not watched the main disc all way through yet, when I have I will let u know what I thought.
I would also give anything 2 be on the front row n believe me I wouldnt act like I was stuffed lol. I saw Meat at Sheffield too.
