Just a thought on a comment i read........
Whilst searching through comments on Cyndi Laupers site, with regards her and Meats shows, a Cyndi Lauper fan posted the following:

Then Meatloaf came on... I was definately not sure what to expect cause I only know his song "I would do anything for love" and he was in Rocky Horror and Fight Club. But I never really listened to him. But he was really good and I like how he gets into his music and each song was like a story. He is a real talented artist as well and I just figured that out at this show. I really respect his work. I thought about leaving after Cyndi, but I decided to give him a chance and I am glad I did cause alot of people were leaving, and I would have felt bad for him. So I am glad I stayed and learned more about a great artist that I knew almost nothing about.

From reading through the site i can only sympathise with Meat as an awful lot of people had wrote on Cyndis board that they left after her. As the Cindi fan above wrote, knowing virtually nothing about Meat, it just shows how noticable the extra effort Meat puts into his shows really is.
I have read in reviews people talking how Bon Jovi rocks on stage and puts on a true show, how Metallica are the best live atc etc, but Meat provides one extra thing which makes a show a true show. He provides interaction second to none with both the band and the audience, and most of all really puts a lot into a songs performance, not just standing there at the mike singing which 99 percent of musicians do. CHSIB i belive next to Paradise shows this. I have heard people critcise a few aspects of Meats current tour - one was that they are tired of Paradise - but if you went to a show and it wasnt performed, 99% of fans would wonder why. Paradise, although always on the setlist, is a big part of showing how much above every other artist meat really is....an actor and a musician. A huge part of the show would be gone if Paradise wasn't performed.

Through reading through the OIFC message boards, fans are criticsing the stop-start intro of Anything For Love. Again, I belive this helps build up the tension and grows excitement onto the songs performance. Whats peoples views on this ... do you see the stop start intro as a good thing or perhaps after the great instrumental do you hate the stop?

Also, as always, the story for each tour is the same with regards setlist..people complained of to many covers on the Having Fun Tour, then Meat replaces them with new stuff for this tour and still people complain. From Meats rehearsal list, im sad Objects and Left in the Dark werent there but overall its 100% perfect. Its a real rocking set, and with regards these complaints about songs not being performed, the only real noticable one left out from past tours is Heaven can Wait. But if you are to perform of a new album, then something has to give..and Meat made the right choice.

I do hope however that the setlist each nights varies (even by two or three songs) when Meats hits the UK arenas where he is playing more than one concert at. Rock and Roll Dreams would be nice as an obvoius one - a rocker to fit in with the apparent 100% rock concert this tour is throwing out.

I'm just interested to hear other fans views with regards dropping paradise and the stop-start anything for love intro. Also, just by the way does anyone miss the inflatable Bat, bob, or for those who have seen the show so far, does Do it and Out of the Frying Pan, make up for it? Also i heard of a paper downfall during the encore too.

 Wow.A lot of points in one thread  .
First of all,it's great that at least one Cyndi fan had the sence (and respect) to at least stick around and see what Meat was doing. After all, you've paid for you're ticket, what have you got to lose :D .

One of the things that really put's Meat ahead of anybody else,is that when he sings a song,he is right there in the moment. While other artist can get up,do their set and still rock,Meat adds another dimention.I've never seen anybody else let themselves become so emersed in the subject matter. No doubt it's due to his unique acting aproach to singing.Meat doesn't sing the songs. He lives them.

Meat gains new fans all the time. It's an exciting thought that one day people will visit this forum and tell us all that their first Meat Loaf experience was through Couldn't Have Said It Better.I love reading on these forums how people discoverd Meat. For most,it was with the release of an album. For me it was seeing a 10 second blast of Bat on a TV advert. The point is,Meat changed all our lives. He's about to change many more lives. That really makes me pause for thought.
At every concert there will be people who have just found Meat, long time followers who are seeing Meat live for the first time, and die hard fans. How could you deny them the experience of hearing Meat sing imortal classics like Paradise and Bat?

I for one think Meat's on stage antics are great  .I know he tends to joke around much more these days, and some fans don't like that, but you've got to understand that these are not easy songs.Meat (no offence here Meat) isn't getting any younger, although sometimes he seems too  .I'm amazed that he can keep going at this pace the way he does.If a little bit of foolery helps him regain his composure for the next song,so be it.

I've read some of the comments from people who seem quite tired of "Paradise", but I know that I would be enormously disappointed to see a ML concert without it. That is the song that I always look forward to, even more than "Bat". For those who say it is too theatrical, I suggest that it would be a perfect time for a bathroom break- if you don't like it, take a break. I really think most people really, really enjoy Paradise. It was the first ML song I ever heard, so it will always have a special place in my heart, but beyond that it's a just plain fun song!

Hi ChrisNI,

Thank you for surfing the Cindi-sites! Good to know some Cindi-fans also appriciate ML!

The way I see it, there will always be some people who complain...
Nothing you can do about that.

But, personally, I think Paradise should be played at every show. Hardly ever play this one at home but Love it on stage! I also can't imagine a concert Without it!

The intro for AFL...I love the song live, think the 'stop-start-beginning' builds up this tention. I love 'to beg' for this song

Great day to you,

Mariella

Paradise... I got into Meat because of Paradise. Bought BOOH because of Paradise, to discover that the rest of the album was far better than paradise imo.
But on tour, on stage, Paradise is a must. It's an act. An act that is a MUST. I would hate to see a Meat performance without paradise...

I seen Meat in New Jersey last Saturday. I have to say Cyndi did rock. I wasn't to impressed hearing that she was supporting him but I was pleasently surprised by her set. Most people did stick around to see Meat. As for the Meat show, it was good. There wasn't alot of crowd interaction at this one as previous ones i've seen. The sound was dreadful though, vocals couldn't be heard over the instruments, and it wasn't like that when Cyndi was on. He played CHSIB, Testify, Tear Me Down of the album. I personally would like to hear Original Sin, Left In the Dark and other stuff off WTTN. Maybe drop Lemon and All Reved Up. The bad thing about CHSIB not being released over in the States is that not alot of people knew the material so they sat down for the new songs. Things began to liven up towards the end of the show when Paradise was played.

Since Meat started touring with Cyndi, I've been peeking at the message boards and mailing lists that I could find. While many of the messages state that they can't understand the combination of Meat and Cyndi, the understandable more abundant complimentary remarks about Cyndi, and the fact that many leave after she's done, a few have been complimentary of Meat.

I think if things were the other way around and Cyndi was on after Meat, I'd probably stay to watch her. She has some songs that I like and I'd be getting more value for money by getting two performers in one night.

I haven't been to a Meat show so I've never seen this inflatable bat thing nor the current opening. As I'm familiar with neither I can't really say I'd miss either if either were to go. I've heard lots of positive comments about the current opening but I don't recall any about this inflatable bat.

Having been a fan for so many years before I FINALLY got to see him live I don't think I could ever get tired of Paradise. Yes, there are a lot of other songs that I wish I could hear him sing (including something gospel - can you imagine the fire and brimstone!!!) but I'm happy to just have the chance to hear him period.

To be honest, I was worried about him when he was in Denver because of the thinner air and his asthma. The show was such a blockbuster as far as I was concerned and the non-stop rocking and rolling just had to have taken a toll on him for the night. But it was deffinately a night to remember, especially the ending. Bob or no Bob.

I think Paradise is, as you suggested, one that 98% of fans would be disappointed not to see, and it's a great duet and piece of theatre between Meat and Patti. I think the theatre, including the stop/start intro Meat started last year for AFL, is what keeps the performances of songs that Meat has performed time and time again fresh, exciting and so good to watch. If he just came out and sang Paradise with no theatre I would have tired of it by now. But the theatre (and it's interesting that Meat has changed and updated this to suit the fact that he is no longer 30) means every show is like a new show.

I will miss the chat on the stool if it is not included this year, but I love the interaction and humour when Meat takes a break.

Bob the inflatable bat was always a great spectacle, but was retired some years ago, and when Meat drops something from his act he always includes something new to delight me :) The paper downfall you refer to is something associated with a final patriotic note specific to the USA, and something very appropriate for the times I think. Whether Meat will adapt it for the UK has yet to be seen. True our troops have stood shoulder to shoulder with the US, but it's not been a popular decision with everyone, and how Meat would play this here I'm not sure. They fired streamers into the audience during last New Years Eve concert .. so perhaps he will do something like that? But I get the impression the finale in the US has been in a way a homage if you like to the patriotic feeling there , and might not be felt as much of a fit over here.

Whatever he does I know one thing. I shall be riveted where I sit and will love every precious minute :D

I have been a fan for many years. It started when my sister brought home the original BOOH record and I taped it. I still have that tape. Must admit though that I have never been to a concert. This will all change on December 17 at Manchester Arena. I think, like most people, I would be disappointed if Paradise was not included, but there are other songs I am also looking forward to hearing - For Crying out Loud, Dead Ringer and You Took the Words....
I would agree that with the amount of effort (150%) that he puts into his songs he needs to take a break now and then as, like a lot of us, he is no spring chicken. I would like to see some of the current bands still touring so extensively whey they get to his age. What am I saying - most of them won't even be in the business in 5 years, never mind when they are in their 50's.

Well, Meat did have the balls to mention The Alamo during his concert in Mexico. This is rock-n-roll, anything goes!

ROCK ON FIRE BALL!!!

Having been a fan since BOOH was first released, and having FINALLY got the the chance to see him in my home town of Plymouth (making it even more special to me) I would have been absolutely mortified if he hadn't sung Paradise and Bat!!!!! 8O Any die-hard fan could surely never tire of hearing these. As with any band/musician - if you were ever truly moved in some way by the old favourites how could you possibly not want to re-live those feelings again and again  - especially if it means you can return to your youth for a few brief moments in time!!??

In Plymouth, it weas clear that not all the audience were familiar with the new stuff but did their best to sing along to what they could, however, as soon as the intro to Paradise started the crowd cheered and clapped :) .....and as the stirring sounds of Bat began the whole auditorium went completely ballistic!!!!!! :bunny:

Judging by the reaction of everyone on that occasion I think Meat would have been lynched if he'd try to sneak off without having performed those!
