View Full Version : Will we ever get a live vinyl boxset?

With the upcoming release of The Dire Straits live 12 Vinyl & 8 CD boxset it had me wondering if we will ever see something similar done for Meat Loaf's vast live catalogue; where we see them going back and actually completely restoring a 40 year old show for example.

Quite interesting I think. There is obviously quite a bit of appetite for this for Dire Straits, certainly with Vinyl on a big comeback tour also. The CD release seems a bit of an afterthought. :-P

There HAS to be some unreleased Meat Loaf live gems out there, right?

Perhaps the Melbourne show could be made complete again - in the order of how it was performed, closer to the DVD release (where is the fricking Blu Ray btw?!), perhaps Wembley 1987?

Was there ever an audio recording of Royal Albert Hall in 2006?

What has happened with all the recordings Meat claimed he had from the 2003-2004 tour? Given that we got so many recordings from Casa De Carne, was everything recorded and kept?

Etc.

So interestingly with the upcoming Dire Straits release where we see them not being afraid of publishing just two or even one (!) track per vinyl side (noting the approximate 20 minute side limit and also the long song lengths they had), it had me wondering what could a Meat Loaf live boxset release look like. Perhaps a show from all 5 decades when he was performing? Would this be possible?

So I was planning this and ended up with 18 vinyls (probably about 11 or 12 CDs). It's a lot, but surely not impossible.

Anyway, sharing this long list as you might find it interesting. Let me know your thoughts and what you would like to see released if we ever got something similar to the Dire Straits release. Perhaps the Melbourne show, restored on its own on vinyl captures enough?

(I used some of Adje's videos to help with timings and song order as I don't think setlist.fm is right in some cases)

For a start I don't know why you'd want the audio from the Rockpalast show as it's all in mono. There are much better shows rotting away in Sony's vaults to choose from.

We can't even get albums now (besides coloured vinyl of stuff we already have), so I don't see it happening myself.

I'm sorry to say and I have said it many times...
There is no legacy management for Meat Loaf or Jim Steinman. The record companies are not interested. It took an absolute age to get a decent CD release of the Stoney and Meat Loaf record.

We know Paul is working on another Live Around the World style live project.

There is shedloads of outtakes - we know Jim made Meat sing the opening line to Anything for Love 80 times!

I don't think there's anymore coming. It's sad but I think that's it for Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. At least we have the work forever.

Unfortunately, as much as I'd love it, I can't see a set of this scale ever coming out.

At best, perhaps we'd see a vinyl release of Live Around the World or else maybe some sort of Record Store Day vinyl release of a live show already released on CD. I hope to be proven wrong though!

What shows were recorded? Audio only or video?
