View Full Version : Stark Raving Love was indeed performed live by Meat
Thanks to jack (MLBF) - who discovered this.
we might have a pretty good idea what the original 1981 Dead Ringer Tour looked like from these newspaper clippings.

Mind you, if he can perform 'Dance in My Pants' live there's no excuse for him not to do 'Stark Raving Love' :-D
That's a great review of a rare show - he didn't perform much of this tour did he? And good to see where the angel costume fit in. Even then he was planning to die on stage - and still keep on going!

And we're absolutely sure it's not just a transitional guitar solo (as in the movie), like when the NLE led "Skull of Your Country" / "Let the Revels Begin" into "Peel Out" but didn't do the whole song in, like, '88?

being as they call Skull of your country / let the Revels Begin a "10 minute instrumental" - I have doubts they'd know the name of the interlude if it wasnt sung. But ya could be

So six songs in the first half:
I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us
Took The Words
All Revved Up
Paradise
Six songs in the second half:
"Stark Raving Love"
Bat Out Of Hell
Dead Ringer
Two Out Of Three
Encore:
Stag-O-Lee
Promised Land
Gimme Shelter
That leaves four songs unaccounted for if this article is correct. Most probably Read 'Em And Weep and More Than You Deserve. I'm guessing I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back and something else?

Well, if one goes by the lyrics printed in the European tour programme (which I do, because there are enough printed songs in common with the bootlegs to date, and I doubt they went out and rehearsed a whole new act for a year later instead of just cutting the deadweight), the possibilities include Read 'Em and Weep and Peel Out, at least.
(It also includes the lyrics to Skull of Your Country / Revels, Bat, Took the Words, Dead Ringer, All Revved Up, Both of Us, Paradise, and Two Out of Three, which are already accounted for.)

im assuming the 10 minute intro was skull of your country / peel out not dissimilar to the 1988 into into both of us. readem and weep and prolly kill you.
for the second half im assuming maybe they reprised skull of your country again before stark raving love and they count the revved up reprise
all guess work.

with the recent discovery, its clear everything is permitted and peel out were in act 1. with come in the night opening into both of us.
set:
COME IN THE NIGHT / REVELS BEGIN
BOTH OF US
TOOK
WASTED YOUTH
REVVED
PEEL OUT
PERMITTED
PARADISE
STARK RAVING LOVE
BAT
READEM AND WEEP
DEADRINGER
2 OUTTA 3 / REVVED REPRISE
STAG O LEE
AMAZING GRACE
PROMISED LAND
GIMME SHELTER
Thanks for this. I’ve been told there is a set list that has ‘Stark / lost boys’ as an instrumental, possibly that’s what opened Act 2. It confirms Peel out and Permitted played. It also says Kill You as an encore. Not sure what show that was though. I think we are close to nailing down these early shows, oh for a good soundboard!

Never understood why Meat did so much better at filling larger arenas in Western Europe on a more consistent basis than in the USA.
Half filled arena with that setlist and that band with Meat getting his voice back is just crazy.
The 1981 Wembley video looked like it was rammed.

Well, if it was performed and someone has a recording, mind if you could share an MP3 so I can finish Meat's Bad for Good? lol.
