Meatloaf has cancelled tonight's show at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center. According to the Manager:

"We are in the process of calling all of tonight’s patrons. Meat Loaf has lost his voice and the concert is cancelled. Box office will call you to see how you want your tickets refunded. Sorry. We are a pretty sad bunch at the LPAC today."
Mary Tanner

Meat's manager was at the theater just an hour or so before I got this message. I get the feeling that they found out just how small the venue is (800 Seats) and that it was not sold out, so Meat has decided to bow out. I can't say that I would blame him, but nonetheless I, my wife and our daughter have been looking forward to this for a few months now so we are seriously bummed out.

 No,that just isn't Meat's style.
You can be sure,if he cancels a show, there is a real good reason for it.
As for the size of the venue,I don't believe for one moment that Meat would pull out because of that.

Not that I hope he has lost his voice, but I hope also that he did not just make an excuse to get out of the show.
Get well soon Fireball.

Hi, Prrthgd! Just caught your message, after I had left the same news in the CHSIB forum. Sorry for doubling up on this.

Sad for you and your family. Sad for us, too. We traveled all the way from Northern California to be here tonight. And we're now praying that the Anaheim concert will go forward tomorrow evening. So far, so good.

But I don't think that Meat would cancel a concert because of its size or the number of tickets sold. He probably gets a minimum and perhaps, part of the gate, as well. So, in terms of money, his costs are covered. I've always gotten the feeling that Meat's commitments are very important to him. And I know that he felt bad about having to cancel the first 4 concerts of the tour (also some small venues) because of his surgery. But these things happen. He's human and he can't very well perform without his voice!

I also think that it's likely he'd much rather play to a small, but enthusiastic crowd than a larger indifferent one as we just experienced in Kelseyville a couple nights ago. And the audience in your fair city was certainly likely to be very appreciative and happy to be there!!

Again, I'm sorry for all of us. Here's hoping that Meat feels MUCH better by tomorrow's show.

Love,
MB

You're exactly right MB ... Meat would not cancel unless it was absolutely necessary because he knows how disappointed his fans would be. I still remember how upset he was last year when he had to postpone his performance at the New Brunswick Theater and how emotional he was when he thanked everyone for coming back to see him when it was rescheduled. Maybe he had a sore throat during the Kelsyville Show --- which is why he cut it a little shorter than usual --- or maybe something happened yesterday.

But as you say, he's human and these things happen :(
I'm truly sorry .. I know how much you were looking forward to tonight, and how disappointed you must be. Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery and you'll see him tomorrow night.

I'm quite sure that Meat wouldn't cancel because a venue was small or not sold out. That he was at the venue shortly before is not atypical of the man, who tries right to the line to give a performance. (Something similar happened at New Brunswick last year, when he tried right up to an hour or so before the show to make the engagement.) His performances are so demanding on his voice. But all those close to him say that when he reluctantly decides to cancel/postpone it really is inevitable. Fingers crossed it's OK for Anaheim.

I agree that the size of the venue wouldn't ever cause ML to cancel. The best ML concert I ever went to was very small open air venue, it couldn't have held more than a few hundred. Nevertheless, he put on an amazing and exhausting show. I am completely sure that ML has a legitimate ailment.

Ah, Meat!! We left Lancaster early and decided to head for Anaheim to get ready for Tuesday's concert. Checked into our hotel and connected to see what was new and saw your news about this next concert being cancelled as well!!

I'm sort of in shock at the moment, so forgive my fumbling around. We just traveled nearly 600 miles by car to see these last two concerts and now they are gone.

I guess I'm having mixed feelings. Four out of the eight shows we originally signed up to see were cancelled due to illness. I'm very sad, of course, and praying your voice will be better SOON. But still, I'm SO grateful for having seen the shows that I did. And I fully realize that the 4 shows we WERE able to see are more than some folks will be getting, so I'm trying to put a positive spin on this for myself right now. (Hey, 4 out of 8 ain't bad! )

What I'm hoping is that you will try to reschedule some of these missing shows during the 4th and last leg of this tour. Is that possible?? Probably way too early to even think about it. Well, I can dream....

Anyway, thanks for letting us all know about the situation. Hope the rest of the tour goes more smoothly for you.

Hope you were not too offended by what I had to say about Love You OutLoud. The sound systems in some of the concerts were NOT good, Meat, and you need to know this, if you don't, already. So, what you are hearing on the soundboard recordings is NOT always the same as what we are hearing from the audience, I'm sorry to say. And I hope this information will be of help to you in the future.

Thank you for four great shows, Meat. Reno, especially, will always be a magic memory for me--one that I will hold close to my heart for a long time to come!!

You take good care of yourself and feel better soon!!

Much love,
MB

OK, here I sit, at home. I am still bummed out, but want to appologize for the tone of my message here earlier. Just frustration I guess.
I went by the Lancaster Performing Arts Center about 10 minutes til showtime to inquire about rescheduling or refund. I've seen more excitment at a funeral. The few people that were there, were seriously bummed out. We all hope you get to feelin better real soon Meat and even though the folks at the LPAC said that you would not be rescheduling, I as well as the others I spoke with, would urge you to reconsider if at all possible.
Take it easy.

Hi.. I'm new to this message Board though I am a member on the MeatBoards here in the US.

I'm sorry to hear of Meat's temporary (i hope) illness. As I recall when he toured the last time he fell ill as well. He wouldn't disappoint his fans. I don't see Meat being capable of that. He loves his fans, you can tell by how he interacts with them and he is a showman no matter what. To put on the kind of shows I've seen him put on requires all his energy. To be even a little under the weather would be unfair to him or us. I would never think that he would cancel a performance because he did fill all the seats. It's not about the people who don't come... it's about the people who do.

I teach computers here. Everyday I have to get up in front of my students and, no matter how I feel, give them what they came for... knowledge of computers. I know what it's like to have to do something even though you don't feel well. It's hard on me and my students notice the difference immediately. I believe it's because of Meat's love for his fans that he cancelled. If you can't do something right don't do something half-a**ed.

When he was sick and the performance was postponed to the following day he seemed to appreciate even more the people who still came to see him. HE knows you need to rearrange your schedule. He knows that you make the sacrifice to come and see him still. He does reward you with his powerful voice and emotional songs.

Love him and trust that he would never let you down.

Meat... I hope you feel better. Take care of that beautiful voice.

Pauline

Agreed Pauline. Meat's said he hates to cancel because he knows how ticked he feels when a show he's going to has to be.

Everything Meat does shows he appreciates and cares about his fans. Hell .. he even comes to post in this forum!

I don't think he should feel the need to apologise or explain himself. He has always been trustworthy and gracious to his fans. Anyone who suggests otherwise is talking through their sombrero!! He deserves our loyalty, support and understanding. He does not imo deserve suggestions that he would feign illness as an excuse .. EVER!

What Cd is this meat? Is it the NZ CHSIB or are they getting a live cd released?

CHSIB is out in NZ now, but it is the Europe version with a red cover and no bonus disc. It's going to be relaunched in Australia and New Zealand in October, so I wonder if this will be a new version with extra live tracks, as Meat has said.

And I'm also wondering if there is any more info about Meat's day of promo in NZ in October, NZ/Australia tour dates, and the `rugby finals' performance (I can't find any rugby event for Oct 2 as Meat said). Are you able to give more info Meat?

RECEIVED THIS ON MY YAHOO ALERT AND WONDER IF IT'S NOT WHAT MEAT IS MAKING REFERENCE TO?

Post-Concert CD Business Gains Ground
Fri Aug 8, 7:22 PM ET
Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

By Susanne Ault LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - They'll probably never replace T-shirts, but live CDs are starting to make headway as the new concert souvenir.
Throughout this event-heavy summer, live concerts are being recorded onto discs and sold shortly after the performances. Post-concert CDs are typically two- or three-disc sets that sell for about $20 each. Few major acts have agreed to participate in this new concert merchandising segment, and most of the activity is taking place at small venues. Revenue has been modest. Still, two high-profile concert-CD startup companies -- DiscLive and Instant Live -- believe they can eventually win the faith of the industry's biggest names. "It's clearly going to take some time for this to be a widely accepted format," says Steve Simon, executive VP of music for Clear Channel Entertainment (CCE), which operates Instant Live. Instant Live is in the midst of its first big test, with a run of amphitheater dates by the Allman Brothers Band. At the first show, an Aug. 3 performance at Meadows Music Center in Hartford, Conn., all 500 three-CD packages available sold for $22 apiece. The buyers represented an impressive 10% of the total crowd. DiscLive's opening salvo involved three June shows by Jefferson Starship in the Northeast. At those shows, the company sold a total of 225 CD bundles. That means 25% of the 900 people in attendance bought the $25 CD sets, according to DiscLive founder Rich Isaacson, the former head of Loud Records. Since then, DiscLive has pacted with management firm 10th Street Entertainment, whose acts -- including Hanson, Motley Crue, Yes and Meat Loaf -- will likely use the company's services for future tours.

If it is Tink, I hope that such cds are available for everyone to purchase, not just for those who can get to the concert.
