It doesn't say whether the venue is seated or standing which is not all that helpful.
Capacity 500, and this gives you some idea of the venue. I'd imagine there is seating in some places, but probably the main floor would be standing?

Good for her. I'm glad to see her doing well. Interesting band - I hear she's great at doing band introductions.
When we were last there (which was a while ago) the floor was standing, with a balcony going around the room which had seats, tables, bar etc.
The ticket gets you through the doors, once you're in it's up to you where you go.
I don't do General Admission type shows so I'm thinking I'm probably going to give this one a miss.

Like everything around here also that is taken out off context now that you bring it over here to discuss.
Why the patronising "trying to be a solo artist" anyway?

 Again, the matter of respectful posting.
Just because a member doesn't like something doesn't make it "stupid".
If you say you don't like something, that's opinion, to dismiss something as stupid, crap, dumb, etc etc is personal opinion posted in an insulting and dismissive manner.
Sort of makes you think how Meat feels when his art is spoken about in such terms, and why Andrew responded with a personal attack
If you want to say something negative at least don't be so blunt about it, and no more personal attacks please.
There's enough good news on this thread to have it dragged off into an off topic row.

Just got back from seeing her in Birmingham. It was an amazing show, the set list was great and her vocals were fantastic. I also really hope she records the solo version of ILFY one day as that was brilliant. There was also less than 30 people there, which is a shame.

I am not surprised at this low attendance figure.
If you really think about it a crowd of 300 would have been sensational.
The harsh reality is that she is just one of many fine singers to have been a "Meat Loaf girl", albeit one of the longest serving.
And she is only now embarking on a solo project without a particularly extensive back catalogue to entice the fans.
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!

Sad but true…
Whether they know her as Patti Russo or not you'd think more people would have gone to see "the woman who sang with Meat Loaf ", that's a real shame.
Can believe there weren't more general music fans who went along just to see someone new at their local venue too :/
Whether they know her as Patti Russo or not you'd think more people would have gone to see "the woman who sang with Meat Loaf ", that's a real shame.
Given the furore when she was let go, I'd have thought so too. I'm genuinely disappointed for her. But as chairboys said .. there's a harsh reality, starting out solo this late in her career. Hopefully this will not be indicative of the rest of the shows that are planned
I suspect Lucy you meant:
Can't believe there weren't more general music fans who went along just to see someone new at their local venue too :/
Probably a sign of the times, recession and all .. but on a Saturday one would have hoped for better

I'm not either, though it may be something to do with the quality of bootleg clips, and we're used to hearing her with one of the best bands in the world .. big, big sound. She still has that big voice .. I think, for me anyway, it's that the overall sound is smaller, less vibrant and in your face somehow. The only time I've heard her sing solo live was when she opened for Meat, and she had the NLE as a backing band, and singing Bible and a Beer on tour with Meat .. same thing.

It could be. I'm not sure if the songs really do her range justice, though?
Did you ever get to hear Patti play with Queen? She sounded really good on some of those songs
Again, we're used to hearing her sing Steinman much of the time, which does have range in spades. No I didn't hear her with Queen .. but I would have expected her to come across as powerfully as she did with Meat .. the same thing applies I think .. BIG sound, big stage etc

Corvette's in Burlington, NC in 1989 a performer we all know and love did a show in front of a crowd that could generously be estimated at 50. He still put on the same show he would have had there been 1,000. Patti is a true pro just like he is. All performers are at some point going to play to small crowds no matter how long they have been out there.

There is nothing embarrassing about someone picking themselves up, dusting themselves off, and trying again. There is nothing disappointing about a woman brave enough to start a solo career creating music and touring at 50. She sounds brilliant in the videos, and those are just Youtube videos. I can imagine how great she was live.
Meat isn't playing to sold-out crowds in Vegas either, but he's still giving his all every night. That's the mark of a great entertainer.

I know/understand that, in a reverse way a duo I used to speak to went from playing small pubs to large venues then back to small pubs. I was just honestly really surprised last night at how few of us there were there last night but Patti still put on a brilliant show despite the obvious nervousness.

I couldn't agree more and I think she will do well within the next couple of years and build up her fanbase more. I'm glad she is doing her solo career now as it's long overdue really =). Like the Last At Bat youtube videos they really don't do much justice for the actual performances.

Sadly, just like with Meat's concerts, the people who don't attend are always the first to judge.
Patti is one of the best live singers I have ever heard- amazing vocals, passion in the performance, fun banter, awesome fashion. The fans who saw the show had only positive things to say.
Some may judge success by fame and fortune, but I think anyone brave enough to follow their dreams is already successful.
Whenever we've seen Patti - with Meat or otherwise - she has been outstanding and I've no doubt she will be just as brilliant when we see her this weekend, but I think by anyone's standards 30 is disappointing.

I saw CC performing at the Balloon Festival in 2009 (not the time she opened for Meat- that was 2011). She played for literally 5 to 10 people. There were rows of empty seats. She carried on like a pro and gave an amazing performance. She was not disappointed at all. She was awesome, and I'm sure Patti has the same indomitable spirit.

I think we all need to learn to focus more on the positive. Everyone who has seen Patti's show loves it. Everyone else needs to get to a show and see it for themselves. I really hope she does some shows in North America. I will gladly travel to New York to see her show.

I don't think anyone's questioning the quality of Patti 's show, just that the turn out was a little disappointing
I just don't think "disappointing" is the way to describe it. When Pearl did her US solo tour, she played some small clubs with less than 30 people. Her tour wasn't disappointing and neither is Patti's. They are both building a solo career without a record company backing them or songs on the radio. I think it is admirable that they are going out on their own and doing what they love.

Maybe she gets more folks in the next shows. I hope so, she deserves it.
She also deserves two awesome female backing vocals. Those weren't there, were they? When I hear and see the youtube video's I think that's what's missing. She used to be the brilliant backing vocals from Meat, catching all the high long notes and awesome modulations with her fantastic voice.
Now she does the lead singing, which means her vocal is most of the time lower. She does that in a great way too, but I think it would be more blasting when she had some soul ladies behind her doing the backing vocals. That what's missing IMO.
Anyway, if I lived in the UK I would go see her for sure! She's great!!!

I think the important thing to remember here is: let's not shit ourselves over word choice.
That's usually my job. (my real job).
I don't think anyone here wishes Patti anything but success. I know I do.
"The show must go on"
Sing it loud and sing it proud Patti.
Sadly, just like with Meat's concerts, the people who don't attend are always the first to judge.
Who is judging or has judged? I replied to a comment about the posted clips and said "it may be something to do with the quality of bootleg clips, and we're used to hearing her with one of the best bands in the world .. big, big sound. She still has that big voice .. I think, for me anyway, it's that the overall sound is smaller, less vibrant and in your face somehow."
I certainly wasn't judging her on the clips but commenting that they were perhaps not a good indicator. I said she still had that big voice, but that she didn't have the big backing sound we are used to. Like chairboys I am sure she put on a great show. No-one has suggested otherwise.
I think we all need to learn to focus more on the positive. Everyone who has seen Patti's show loves it. Everyone else needs to get to a show and see it for themselves.
Again, I said I was disappointed FOR her that the turn out for her second show was so low (apologies for getting the date wrong) .. and I'd think she is likely to have been. I also said "Hopefully this will not be indicative of the rest of the shows that are planned." That's not focusing on negatives, but expressing disappointment for an artist who is respected in this community for her performances, who is striking out on her own, and who has invested a lot in this tour. I am sure all those who went loved it, and I have never done anything but wish her well.
I am not going to any of the shows, so from now on had better keep my good wishes and my empathy to myself ;)
I just don't think "disappointing" is the way to describe it. When Pearl did her US solo tour, she played some small clubs with less than 30 people. Her tour wasn't disappointing and neither is Patti's.
Again... No-one has called Patti's tour disappointing - what's disappointing is that there weren't more people at that particular venue. It's nothing against Patti, her show or future shows, just a shame that more people didn't turn out for that particular night.

It seems to vary - Sheffield had doors opening at 7 but nothing started until 8.30.
We have tickets for Oxford and their doors are 6.30...there seems to he a good hour+ between doors and show.

Meeting Patti after the show was amazing and she congratulated me and Ash on our wedding :) my face still hurts from all the smiling!

Patti was superb.
I didn't have high expectations but let me tell you this was almost as good a show as I have seen Meat and Bruce Springsteen do. It was as if she was performing to thousands. And she should be doing that. The quality, fun and smile factors are all there. It was incredibly impressive for her first outing as a solo artist. The great 4 piece band which includes Jamie Moses on guitar, creates a wall of sound that the pre-accused murdering mind of Phil Spector would have been proud off.
The fact that I live in the world where the majority of people choose to sit at home on a Saturday night and expect entertainment to grace their TV screens in the form of advertised chattering mayhem such as Britain's Got Talent and the X Factor makes me very sad. Millions watch that drivel. Something isn't right and should be fixed...

I urge anyone with even the slightest of interest in good live music and the type of music that Patti performs (rock / Queen / some Meat Loaf) to come down to the remaining shows in Brighton, Leicester and London and check her out! No excuses, just do it!
I hope this is the start of something big for Ms Russo and I'm actually hoping that next time Patti tours I can't even get a ticket due to huge demand. That would be something she deserves I think. Don't get me wrong, I'd still get into the venue somehow! :-P

She's very gratefull for that. Well done, Andrew!
Let's all promote Patti where we can! She deserves it.
The size of the crowd does not matter...the quality of the show does. The most fantastic shows I have ever seen or been part of have been in front of small sized crowds. Some of the larger houses I have performed in and/or seen shows in have left me disappointed.

I agree. I do hope though that Patti can draw well enough to cover expenses and maintain interest in getting more bookings.
As I have mentioned I saw Meat perform in a club before a similar sized crowd and he still went on as though the place was packed. Also remembering that as Meat himself has pointed out success is not measured by numbers alone but in giving it all you've got every time. No doubt Patti feels the same way. I admire her for going after her dream and not letting things get her down or worrying about her age.
Patti deserves so much and I hope she will be happy in the fact that she is performing great as always.

I couldn't agree more, Loaferman. I'm proud to be a member of a fan club that offers encouragement to Meat and the band. And we should all consider their feelings before we post a comment. There was nothing 'embarrassing' when Meat played small clubs in the 80's nor is it for Patti or Pearl or any other artist.

While millions would know who Patti is and have seen her perform with Meat, Cher, Queen, and others - they would probably know her when they see her more than recognizing her name on a sign.
Pearl is another good example. She has been seen by tons of people and we all know her, but the average person seeing the name Pearl on a sign might not make the connection.
Both those ladies are very talented and are doing very well and doing what they love and loving what they do. I praise them both for it and sticking to it and putting themselves out there.

I'm not taking sides but this does sum up gig going in general.
The logistics of getting to a show vary so much upon individual circumstance.
I am constantly looking for events to go to but can only attend on certain days, within the restraints of family commitments and up to an optimum travelling distance.
So, to find a show of an artist I really want to watch at a convenient location on the right day and with mrs chairboys' permission is either a very lucky coincidence or an act of deception on my part.

Right, somehow I've got to put into words what I witnessed last night so please bear with me as a writer I ain't.
I reckon there was 80 - 100 there for the start of her set, more drifted in and stayed as the end of the tour party was happening afterwards.
As Patti walked onto the stage a few feet away it was kinda like seeing an old friend again but when she burst into Queens "Don't Stop Me Now" every thought just left your head to be replaced by "Damn she can sing", I know we already knew that but when she's inches away from you you really get an understanding of just how amazing her voice is. It takes about three seconds before you're away with her singing along, her stage presence and personality is infectious and you're along for the ride. Stories mingle with songs, interactions with the audience ride alongside pisstaking between the band and you've no choice but to really admit that this lady is as near as damn it perfect. I've remembered the jokes and forgotten the Italian swearing which is somewhat arse about face as the swearing was brilliant and a stand up career does not await Patti lol.
A few highlights, by no means all of them
Black Velvet - I love this song, blown four sets of speakers to it but never heard it like that, bloody amazing. Bible and a Beer - Probably the best known of her songs was sung to perfection, loved the story behind her bible copy (Are You Thirsty? - see pick below). One Door Opens - nearly had me in tears, the emotion Patti puts into this is mind blowing, ditto for Here We Are. Dead Ringer, brilliant, loved the Cher impression!!!!! And John Partridge came on stage, him and Patti just seemed to bounce off each other, excellent!!!! (And he phoned my babysitter afterwards).
It was over way too quickly but I'm taking so much away with from this show that the memories will stay with me for a long time, my biggest fear is that I'll not see her perform a show like this again because it truly was awesome. It has to be said that more than anything last night just reinforced my opinion of how much I will miss this lady if I see Meat perform again, irreplaceable.

She was magnificent! Monstro said it perfectly.
For me that would be like Keane supporting Travis in 2004 (which I saw). The support act is more interesting than the main one. If anything Patti should be on stage with Queen instead of Adam Lambert or Paul Rodgers in my opinion. But I'd still prefer just seeing her own 2 hour show and leave Queen itself in the history bag. I never understood why Brian May just didn't keep going on Solo, he was excellent when I saw him in 1998 (with Jamie Moses btw). That Kerri Ellis carry on doesn't seem very fitting but what the hell do I know.

I never really go for merch / t shirts but the 3 shows I went to really were some of the most memorable I've seen, especially after knowing how much effort and dedication Patti put into the shows in the light of uncertainty.

Today is my Birthday. So I had a few drinks after work and then went to Pizza Express with the girlfriend - and guess who is sitting on the table next to me. right there in Shepherds Bush Pizza Express was Patti Russo - I'm not one to usually approach people but this time I felt i had too - I waited until she had finished her meal and said a quick hello, she was lovely, She couldn't believe I knew who she was and even thought that the people she was with had set something up- she even briefly sang me happy Birthday- What a special moment for me. Magical. I wont go into the details of the little chat we had but i wish her all the luck, I get the feeling we wont see her on stage with Meat again which makes me sad indeed (i told her that) but you can never say never. She's so extremely talented and deserves all the success in the world.

a great gig
I was fortunate enough to be able to finally see Patti live for the first time on her tour earlier this year and was blown away by her incredible performance. I actually think I'm more of a Patti fan than a Meatloaf fan and my favourite DVD is the Meatloaf unplugged one because it features patti so much. Her voice, stage presence and professionalism shone through and my wife and I loved every second of it and can't wait to hear the new album and see her live again...
We also managed to have a quick chat with Patti and she was an absolutely delightful and beautiful lady.
Anyway, I took some photos and thought they might be of interest to fellow Patti fans. You can view them here: http://www.jonathangorsephotography.com/p754235548
