Are there any songs by other artists which you would like to hear Meat do a rendition of?

Sitting here watching the box and a Chyrsler advert came on with Celline Dion (I think?) singing I Drove All Night originally by Roy Orbison.

And I thought to myself I bet Meat could belt that out with a lot of emotion.

Right it's 5 past 1 and I'm off to dream up some others (literally!).

I think Meat could do a great job of singing Paradise City by Guns and Roses. Maybe even Sweet Child O' Mine

Great Topic :D

I personally think that 'it's all coming back to me' by Celine Dion would be fantastic for Meat.

Can't stand the woman myself, but when i heard her singing this, i thought it would be perfect for Meat.

I agree, Heat. I do like listening to Celine, but 'looking' at her seems 'to spoil' the songs...she has these 'strange' face-expressions, I think.
'It's all coming back to me' by Meat, YES!

I personally would also love to hear Meat sing The Rose by Bette Midler. One of my all time favorites.

Unforgettable Opera - Roger Daltrey - The lyrics to this are just made for Meat Loaf.

I remember that! It was 1987 when it was the 10th anniversary of his death and that was when I first "got into" Meat Loaf. Fantastic performance. I had it videod but my dad went over it with Formula one or something

ps Elvis's death, that is

Lots of Queen songs .. including
Don't stop me now!
and how about We Are the Champions as an end of show encore?

And also there are many "show" songs from musicals I'd love to hear Meat cover .. in particular I'd adore to have the lyrics for "I know him so well" from Chess modified, and see Meat standing back to back with Patti singing this as a duet, so rather than two women singing it about a man they both know, have the couple singing it about each other. It's imo a simply beautiful and very powerful melody, which needs strong voices ... and I can just hear Meat's and Patti's voices singing it .... if ever Meat does the duets CD he referred to, this one would be top of my wish list :)

Nights In White Satin's original version is by Procol Harum.

I think Lamento Eroico by Rhapsody in English would be good!

well, I LOVED Meat's version of Martha by Tom Waits on WTTN, so I'd LOVE to hear him do; 'take it with me, when I go' or 'picture in a frame' by Tom Waits...I'd also love to hear him do 'famous blue raincoat' or 'so long Marrianne' by Leonard Cohen. The only problem with these choices, is he has a far stronger voice than Cohen or Waits (in terms of quality, range and nuances) so he probably wouldn't find them challenging enough. His ability to emote, and story tell, however, is why I'd like to hear a cover of these.
also,
Just me, or does anybody else want to hear Meat do Total Eclipse of the Heart?

My brother said he would like to hear Meat Loaf sing Paranoid By Ozzy Osbourne\Black Sabbath. And complicated by Avril Lavigne, lol, well anyways those are his opinions. I just asked him, so I thought I would share, oh and he says one more, walk this way by aerosmith. he's 12, (4 years younger) and rather strange, if yea ask me

I see no point in Meat doing any cover from a Steinman song he hasn't done yet. I don't think he'd pull of "Carpe Noctem" or "Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young" very well, and there is no point in doing "Confession of a Vampire (The Insatiable Appetite)" for it's mostly Objects. "Total Eclipse", "Making Love" and "All Coming Back" were (huge) hits for Bonnie, Air Supply and Celine -- and I wouldn't care for another version. The only "unreleased" Steinsong I'd like to see him do is "For Sarah". A 'small' song, melodic, yeah, I could propably fall for that :)

As for 'other band's songs', I'd also prefer he'd stay clear from the 'classics'/big hits/famous songs, UNLESS he gives 'em a twist. I've read a lot of suggestions in this thread, and with most of them, I had something like "they can't be serious". A lot of them don't seem to fit either Meat's voice, or I couldn't picture him singing it, based on the lyrics / music. I can't see Meat singing Paradice City. I love the GN'R version -- but the idea of Meat singing it devellops a mental block. It isn't his style. Same goes for Paranoid. November Rain, We Are The Champions, The Show Must Go On -- the originals are perfect, why redo it? I'm sure those versions can't be topped.
That being said, I could see see Meat doing the following two songs:
Alice Cooper's "Only Women Bleed" -- musicaly and lyrically I think this would suit Meat very well. Co-written by Dick Wagner (execution day, fallen angel)
and Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road" -- they said that "Bat Out Of Hell" was a "Born To Run" wanna-be, well, then I'd like to hear how Meat tackles one of the highlights of that album.

I agree Evil Nickname, I would love to hear Meat sing "Thunder Road" it would just be so interesting. I don't think that Meat could do a better job at the song then The Boss, but that's understandable. Meat would still do a good job at it I'm sure.
Also, I was thinking, and I know this will sound weird but I'd like to hear Meat sing "Origin Of Love" from Hedwig. He could pull it off and it would sound very original.

I agree with most of what Evil nickname is saying...except the Springstein cover, but that's most likely a personal bias, as I am not fond of his music for the most part. (sorry! to all the Springstein fans  )
Also, many 'big hits' by other artists would seem cheesy as a cover, it gives you that karaoke-bar-cover-band-wedding kinda feel to hear somebody else singing the big rock standards. I guess 'Total Eclipse of the Heart.' should fall under that category as well since it is INHERENTLY Bonnie Tyler at this point. Nonetheless, I've always been curious as to how it would sound with Meat.....ahh well, most is best left imagined.
All in all, very well put 'Evil', if I may call you Evil

I think Greg's original question was about songs we'd love to hear Meat sing .. not definite plans for recordings :) .. so whether a song has been successfully covered by another artist surely doesn't matter .. it's just our dream of songs we'd love to hear that voice delivering .. and I too would love to hear him sing Total Eclipse.

And of course even if he decided to record such a song .. he'd make it his own version anyway .. so it would still be worthy of inclusion on any album :)

Sure you may...

CarylB, OK, Greg's question may have been about 'live covers'... but for me, its mostly the same as I said before...
When I go to a Meat show (hopefully again in december or whenever he decides to come back to Holland) I want to hear Meat's own songs... I wasn't really thrilled with the 'Stomp the band'/acoustic cover set on the TVBOML tour in '99. Instead of playing Prince and the Eagles, I would have found it far more interesting to hear his own songs in an unplugged setting.
What would be the point of including recent covers in your setlist when you're an artist of Meat's status?

Probably none .. but this also wasn't what we were talking about .. this was a lighthearted thread about our dreams I thought .. songs we'd love to hear Meat's voice delivering ... doesn't need to make commercial sense .. wasn't about the set list for the tour .. just dreams and fun .. and the point? .. pleasure :)

Dance In My Pants (Pleeeeeeeease!) - With Bonnie Tyler? :D
Let Me Entertain You - So much better than RW.
The Rose - Great idea there!
Glory Days - By The Boss.
Any new song that Jim writes for Bat 3!

When Tomorrow Comes - Eurythmics...

Angels Of Darkness by Rhapsody?
I know it's a 19 minutes long but why not? And it'd heavier than Meat's music but why not? And it's symphonic metal but why not?

And another: When The Smoke Is Going Down by Scorpions!!!

Shadows On The Wall

That's really interesting Shadows .. I've often thought how suited Meat would be for G&S .. his diction is so good. Remember him saying that Richard O'B had said to him "Don't worry about trying to get all the words in Hot Patootie .. it's impossible" .. and Meat made every one count?

Modern Major General would be excellent .. and the LH Executioner's song from the Mikado? .. I can just hear him singing about his little list, particularly the final breakneck chorus!!

Yes I knew that, it was for an International Special Olympics or something like that. I have it on a cheap rock compilation cd I found.

Speaking of Queen, when Meat was a guest host on VH1 radio (or something like that), he played "We Will Rock You" as an example of songs he liked.

Hmmmmm . . . for me, just about anything Bob Seger did. I think we talked a bit about it on the ROL list because I had heard "Come to Papa" on the local classic rock station (I hadn't heard it in years) and I thought it would be so cool to hear Meat do it. That's funny 'cause I've been thinking about that these days... actually, since AndyK posted in another thread that he witnessed 'a long time ago' a soundcheck in which Meat and the band were playing Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love!!!!!!!!! 8O

I wish I could hear Meat performing:

- I'm Calling You - Bagdad Café Soundtrack
- Who Wants To Live Forever - Highlander Soundtrack by Queen
- The Show Must Go On - Queen
- Paradise City - Guns 'n' Roses
