View Full Version : What could have been...

To me it seems that every record Meat has done there was a song left off for whatever reason that just makes me wonder why. I don't know if it would have made a huge difference to the album but maybe. Lately a really good example would have to be PRIZE FIGHT LOVER.
Leaving that off HCTB is a mystery. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there were reasons for everything but I have to wonder if they could do it all again if they would stand by that reasoning.
Examples
DEADRINGER Rock and Roll Dreams
MATLAF Lost Love
BAD ATTITUDE Tough one there but maybe the freeway mix of Modern Girl
BBIS No ideas there
BAT 2 Date With Destiny, probably because it was not a Steinman song
CHSIB Either of the B sides were good
Already said HCTB and don't want to talk about BAT 3
HIAHB The full acoustic version of Blue Sky. Definitely a hit

My thoughts anyway

** Warning personal opinion follows **

Can you not call it Bat3 it is not a bat they just used the name, Bat is Meat & Jim. That album is The Monster Is Loose

Meat was unhappy making TMIL & Desmond Child massacred the Steinman tracks used

We have to call it Bat 3, because that's it's name!

Honestly I don't think the changes mentioned above would have made a massive difference one way or the other. There's definitely some brilliant songs that never made it to the albums (Decadent Wish springs to mind immediately) but I don't think there's any that would have dramatically changed the albums or their individual successes.

I haven't heard all of them but I adore prize fight lover

Its Bat Out Of Hell 3, it says it on the front, no matter what Meat thinks now, its still Bat 3, and it's better than some other of Meats albums, includding imo HIAH

It's a "debate" that I just don't think needs re-opening again. Whether people choose to consider it a Bat album or not is their own choice, but the name is Bat 3 and that's what we have to call it.

Getting back on topic, Take A Number was another one I loved that never made it to an album

Prize Fight Lover didn't make the album because Meat felt it was too similar thematically to Living on the Outside, and he felt LOTO was the better song. So that's one less mystery to worry about :D I personally think it should have been on the album in place of If I Can't Have You, but oh well. The album still turned out brilliant.

I also think Decadant Wish and Unsaid should have been on Couldn't Have Said It Better in place of You're Right (I Was Wrong) and Because of You. I don't understand how they got the cut while those two didn't :O

I really like a man & women which was a part of a compilation album

" Heaven can wait- The Best Ballads Meat Loaf Vol.1 " German import
I'm not too sure if Meat had anything to do with the recording of this album.

Man and a Woman is a track from the album Blind Before I Stop. The CD you're referring to is a cheapo cash-in compilation. There are no exclusive tracks.

 Correctamundo

We've been through that one quite a few times.
Weather you wish to call it Bat III or The Monster Is Loose is personal opinion.
Call it what you will, and respect the rights of others to do likewise.

Off the top of my head, I can't really say I think one song alone (unless it's released as a single) has a massive effect on an album.

I think the two B sides from CHSIB are the best songs never to make it onto an album, but I don't believe that CHSIB would have done much better or worse if they replaced some of the songs that made the cut.

Here is an outstanding version

Apparently it was being considered for BAT 2 but Jim came up with some more songs. Too bad Meat never recorded it.

Here is the version that could have been on BAT

Blue Tears made some great songs. Many of them should have been hits.

I think the true test of any artist is if they can make some amazing albums but still have a catalogue of top class work that never made it to the album for one reason or another.

Fair to say Meat can tick that box with a yes
