Well..what can i say??? The lady is impressed :D

I honestly didn't think Russell Watson could cut it - and at the beginning i thought i was going to be proved right - but the boy done good :D

I was blown away with him singing BOOH and CHSIB at the end - really good - he certainly held his own.

Very impressed :D

I agree, Russell Watson really got stuck in and did a very good job. I was a little be sceptical as to whether an opera singer could actually sing rock without making it sound smooth but he was rock and roll!! He's a bit of a sexpot to isn't he? Never looked at him in that light before. Oooo aaaah those leather trousers. 8O

Thought it was an excellent programme. Although I'm not particularly a Russell afficianado, I've always thought he had his feet on the ground .. and he did a great job imo. And there was more Meat content than I'd dared hope for .. so good all round :)) .. worth waiting for!

I'm not a fan of opera or Russell Watson and I was horrified when I heard he was going to sing a duet with Meat. It takes a brave man to do what he did.

Yes, his intonation in Anything for Love was all wrong but he can hardly be criticised for that. He hasn't been listening to the song nearly every day for 10 years like many of us !!

Bat maybe wasn't the best chioce of song but it's the ultimate rock song so I guess it was the ultimate test. He did well considering.

His voice is probably best suited to the likes of CHSIB which was demonstrated in the brief clip of that at the end.

"Rock Chops" Watson? I don't think so. But it was a damn good try Russ.

I agree, expected a 'karaoke' kind of thing. Didn't think he would do so well. Very brave of him, I enjoyed the program!
Good publicity also, a part of CHSIB at the end.

Great tv!

The whole mini concert by Meat and the band, and the other songs Russell performed with Meat and/or the band (there was one song he sang mostly with Kasim and Patti, although Meat did chime in a few times in spots. ) was really great and better then i expected (I mean the parts with Russell!). Glad you guys enjoyed it! Take care!

However much he tried, he's still too smooth to sing rock. But give him his dues, he tried and try he did the best in rock, all I can say is, what a brave boy!
Meat was great and didn't he look good :D
Just gotta say tho'......Russel leave the long black leather coat to Meat, you may be cute, but not that cute. No one, and I mean no one can look as good as when Meat wears his

Russell tried his best and did alright at the end. Still has a lot of work to do, if he is to cut it as a rock singer. Meat, well as great as always :D

yeah meat was drinkig teqeulia ( not sure if thats spelt right).let the man have a drink before he goes onstage,at least he wasnt drunk when he was performing.i thought the programme was quite intresting,it could have been improved if we got the whole performance of booh plus chsib.

Mhh, I knew he sometimes drank a shot before a show, it relaxes him (that was the argument mentioned, don't pin me on it)

Did you all hear meat say frigging on the show......I know I'm tearing at old wounds here, but the BBC didn't seem to mind, because they didn't bleep it or something....

I enjoyed the show very much. This Russel guy showed a lot of guts imo. And he did well.
I didn't notice the "frigging" Asha. Will look at it again tonight.

I thought Russell did a brilliant Job! :D
I thought he gave it a good shot and although he looked a little intimidated by Meat (and who wouldn't be) for him to give it a go at all shows he was a good sport, and Meat seemed impressed by his efforts at the end too. He obviously has the strength in his voice, but I think one of the rock ballads would suit him much better. I did feel that the programme could have been a bit longer, seemed that a lot had been cut out, which was a pity.

I enjoyed hearing him jamming with Saxon, and he seemed much more at ease with them, which showed in his voice. It's no mean feat for anyone to try doing what he did...to be thrown in at the deep end to sing BOOH in front of a whole auditorium of Meat fans?? 8O Takes a brave man indeed!! He wasn't trying to outdo Meat, and isn't intent on swapping his operatic career for one in the rock business, he simply did it to 'have a go' because he got that opportunity (which one of us wouldn't have done the same?) ....and to entertain, and entertainment it was!

I agree with some previous comments about his sexiness too!! oohhh!! he can practise on me anytime!!!

One more thing....forget who said it, but there was a comment about no-one looking as good in a long leather coat as Meat......eh hum *coughing*...you ain't seen how cool my son looks in one!!!!!! 8)

Hi folks,

I've been lurking around the board for awhile but decided I just had to comment on this.

Watched the program last night on video and thought Russell sang really well.

But it does make you appreciate Meat's talent even more.

Russell sang BOOH but Meat Loaf performed it.

Which was exactly the point they, including Meat, made. I thopught Russell gave it a very good shot .. but Meat outshone him as one would expect.

Meat's "performance" approach is unique in the Rock world .. as he says, he's an actor who sings. (One of the few peole to come within hailing distance of him imo was the late Freddie)

But there's no doubt Meat's the maestro :) .. I just wish there'd been time enough to show Meat doing a 20 minute "Master class" with Russell

Howdy All

Russell Watson did better than I thought he would, although he still sounded a bit poncy, whereas Meat ROCKED! He seemed to be singing about an octave higher than Russell (and I though Meat did a great job of the opera too - perhaps they should try it the other way round!)

Is anyone else worried about Meat's voice though?

At the end of BOOH it cracked up very badly - if it's like that now (or whenever it was filmed), what will it be like by December???

meats voice is fine, dont you worry!! :D

Moshachic....Thanks, but I DID use the whole line and not just the clicky bit!! I got to the page fine, it just wouldn't play the audio. I'll try again later.

Regards Meat's voice....I saw him in Plymouth a few weeks ago, and although he was good I thought he lacked some of his energy during that performance but then he was still only just recovering from the surgery. It was therefore a little disappointing for some of us watching, but it was perfectly understandable, and I think we were pleased just to see him at all!! I also noticed that he didn't linger on all of the long notes like he used to and it was also a little croaky at times, but again, that could be partially down to being in recovery. He took discreet 'rests' in between some of the songs, sitting down at the back and filling in with some banter.

Now I don't want to stir things up with anyone here, but personally I feel that his voice isn't quite as strong as it used to be...but then one does have to consider that age takes it's toll on all of us. All singers will have some deterioration in their voice (notice just how many rearrange their old songs so they don't have to hit the high notes anymore) its just part of the natural process. But to balance that out, Meat's very stage presence, and persona will always carry him through, and the whole atmosphere of an event such as that is more than enough to ensure that he remains one of the greatest!!

Russell Watson couldn't possibly compete with such a larger than life character like Meat. He did extremely well I thought, but no-one could ever sing or perform Bat better than Meat himself now could they??!!! Oh..and I agree with CarylB....Freddie would have been a close second!!

JJ, I agree totally with your comments about Meat's energy and voice. He's in his mid-fifties now so we can't expect him to perform like a 30 year old on stage. And that's obviously why the current world tour will be the last one.

If I have the energy that Meat does when I'm in my mid fifties, I'll be perfectly happy. :D

JJ

Absolutely, Sapphire !!
I think he's being sensible to quit while he's ahead, however difficult that is for everyone to bear, not all singers have the sense to do that, and consequently leave us with some very pitiful memories instead of great ones.
It takes some doing to continue with such a gruelling schedule....I get worn out after my daily walk with the dogs...and I am a little over 10 years younger than Meat!!.....Although in my own defence, I should add that they are young large dogs who can run pretty damn fast!!!!

Guppie, he didn't say only friggin' but also f**king.....like i said BBC didn't seem to mind, they didn't bleep it out.

He said friggin when waiting for Russel for rehearsel and he said F**king before going onstage "Are you f***ing ready, boy?"

Because I like to use the queens english I say the f-word Loudly and Proudly like R showed me! :lmao:

Ow well, just to show off C5's stupidity again!
