Hello Mr Loaf,

As a fan for over 20 years I have to ask you the following question. In the past you have claimed to not get involved into politics and that it is a private manner. Yet last week you decided to endorse a presidential candidate.

This surprised me of course but I figured that if somebody comes along sharing all your views on important issues, why not. So I assume that you endorsed the candidate not for one or two issues but all the main issues. Why, otherwise would you do something you never ever did before and go out public saying you're endorsing a candidate. It can't be for just the economics and jobs. Because every election is about those issues but never ever before you felt the need to step out in the open for one candidate.

So, assuming that you agree with this candidate, I have a following question for you, I hope you can/will answer. This particular candidate doesn't think gay people deserve the same rights that other people get. He isn't pro-choice nor is he very keen on women's rights. Important issues that you always claimed to suport. Heck, I recently saw you mention something that you always have fought for gay rights.

So now that you decided to endorse this candidate. Got in the open and screamed "This is the best for America," does that mean that you have left your ideals on these issues? I mean, endorsing isn't the same as just putting out your vote. It's weighs in way more and not to be taken lightly. Especially as you never did it before.

Have you abandoned large groups of your gay and female fans? Are those issues not important for you anymore? Because there isn't a two-way into this. You can't endorse someone who is against these IMPORTANT issues and say "errr, no but ya but no... I still suport those groups despite I went out and called this the best candidate for this Nation."

That's like putting a child molester and serial killer in front of a class of young people. Simply because the person is great in educating. And then saying, sure he molests kids. Sure he kills a few on his way, but don't worry. I've always stand again child molesting and murder. So it's all good. Besides, education is important and he does that very well. Better than any other I know.

Doesn't that strike you to be a bit odd?

The endorsing of the candidate has released a lot of debate. Also by your fans. And as actions say more than words this action shows many of us that you don't care for their rights anymore. And that is a huge dissapointment. It qualifies you for who you are. Maybe not so big of Heart as we always thought you are.

This is an open letter that I will post on several places in the hope you take the time to answer my -concerned- question to you. So please enlight me and more than thousand of your fans who just don't understand why you endorsed a person that thinks differently about so many important issues.

If you do find the time to answer to us please have the dignity to not state something as "I still believe in those issues but find the economy too important in this matter" Because then you basically claim that the issues I earlier mentioned are not important to you. And if they are then you would have discussed it with your family and voted for the candidate but didn't go out to endorse him. The endorsing of the candidate makes the big difference. So I hope you are willing to let your fans (the ones that care. And they are plenty) know what made you do it...

Sincerely,

Ad de Gier

Ad de Gier.......I write this with all due respect.

Could you please explain to me what "gay rights" and "women's rights" are?

ALL "rights" of ALL citizens of the US are contained in the Constitution Of The United States.

Well let's keep it simple and say the right to get married for example. Mitt Romney is strong agains gay marriage while it seems to me this is a human right...

To Lucy: As far as I've seen he only mentioned he endorsed him because of the economy and job plans. That seems little to do something you never did before: endorsing. Especially because basically all elections are about that...

But I won't get into debate too much in this myself. I just hope for what the letter asks.

Ya think maybe he chose now of all times because the economy is in such a state? Heck, the aussie dollar was worth more than the US dollar.... As far as I can remember that has never happened.

Imo I think if his reasons are because of the economy & jobs that this is the perfect time for him to make such a statement if that's how he feels about it.

Hello Mr. de Gier,

As a fellow member of the board you visit for the last 8 years or so I am interested in hearing a reaction by Meat. However I am assuming you won't hear this because by the time Meat gets a chance to read this thread it will be locked, deleted, thrown into that big black hole of moderation heaven.

I've known Meat was more in favour of the Republican party over the past decade or so so his endorsement did not come as a huge surprise to me but his motivation I agree is perhaps a bit puzzling. Therefore I wish you good luck in your pursuit to finding some answers.

Sincerely,

AndrewG

Well, that's what I saw and that is why my example of the teacher is in the letter. You can't come at a crossroad and go both ways.

But thank you Lucy, that is the post I saw

That answer is the best you're going to get, if there's anything else released by Meat we'll update this thread, till then it's locked.
