I say again Thank you very Much , but also really thank Paul he mixed and made the sound great. Also This band is really the best out there.
Meat
No argument there Meat - there are so many moments on the GP DVD where you looked like the happiest man in the world at what you were hearing from the band. It's lively to see.
The point where you refer to what Jimmy's reaction would be (I won't quote to preserve it for those who don't have the DVD yet) gave me a lump in the back of my throat.

Unfortunately I didn't make it to the Storytellers tour, but watching you and Patti singing Paradise on the DVD is what got me hooked on you in the first place :-) I've truly loved all of your shows ... but I've always wondered what it would be like to see you in a truly intimate setting and hear you share your stories behind the songs. So thank you for the opportunity !
Back in July I saw Trace Adkins do the same type of show in Lancaster, and I absolutely loved every second of it  :-)

Great to hear you're coming back to the UK.
Is there any chance of Objects in the rear view mirror making the setlist, I've never got to witness it live, and I'd love to see and hear it!

Left In The Dark would be beautiful...and Justin on piano would take it places it has never gone before...stunning! I was a new fan and way up in the lawn for the Born To Rock Tour...I'd love to see the sensation you could make it now.

So do I :D I wonder if the "Yes" meant BAAB would be in? That was simply stunning at the Royal Albert Hall, and should have been a hit single !!

I want to be there to see the look on Wario's face when Meat says "no" :))
Actually...the whole venue would have to tell Wario "fukc you" should he request a song. One of the rules of Storytellers is you cannot request a song, if you do, Meat Loaf guides the entire venue in saying "fukc you" and you have to sit down.

Hi Meat and infact to you all,
I just thought I would post a little note and maybe Meat you will read this too but I just wanted to say thank you for the past 8 years. I always knew of Meat Loaf back when I was a wee child as my dad would always play Bat1 and Bat2 in the car and would be like "Ross, you gotta listen to these guitar solos and epic songs" and they were great. I then remember when Nothing Sacred came out, I went and got it for my dad and listened to it even before he managed to get home - the dead ringer live from 1995 is the B-Side and I remember dancing round the room to it... I drove the whole family mad with that song for ages... I guess then it wasn't until 2003 when I went to see my first gig. I remember you came Meat to London back in 2002 but I remember my mum saying your too young... I fixed that and in Jan 2004 after it being rescheduled in Glasgow, I was no longer a Meat Loaf Concert Virgin haha.
Ever since I have not looked back.
Your music has inspired so many people especially myself. There are points I can relate to and after seeing your Biog, there are bit in there where I think, my god, that happened to me and I know Im not alone with some of those things - eg: Bullying. I got through most of my high school years listening to your music.
You also gave me so much passion and showed me what I love and what I wanted to work in and that was theatre - Besides importantly coming to see your show Meat for you and the greatest band there is about, it was also to watch the lx and the effects and how much theatrical elements go into the show, very much like a theatre piece.. I would also go up to the crew after and thank them as unfortunately some people forget that if it wasn't for the crew, there would be no show. They are the ones who load in early in the morning and make sure the stage is safe and ready for the band arriving and not forgetting the late nights and then the road trips to the next venue.. It is hard and long unsociable hours. Its simply wonderful.
After high school I did odd jobs and finally decided to head to london and knock on all doors and take no for an answer until I got a job within Production/Stage Management. Okay, its not that simple, you have to work your way up - understand all departments but its worth it in the end. Soon I built up a reputation and being now only 21, I have done a hell of a lot for my age.
I went to at least one of the dates on each tour, networked with many people and met so many great folk too. I also remember the only time meeting you was in London 2008 and I asked the question of if I was aloud to go chat more with Cosmo - your LXD then and you kindly got your assistant to take me over after the M&G was done... You have the kindest heart and find the time to speak with people despite your very busy schedule.
Sadly though, I was unfortunate to get a bulging disc and have had to quit work within touring. I guess in life you have an ambition and goal - mine was to progress further and become a Tour Manager. I always dream't of working on a Meat Tour. It would of been an experience and a great one too. Moving away from the theatre tours (which dont get me wrong were great and challenging) but I always fancied pushing myself to the max - always remember Meat saying about pushing himself to do better all the time. I guess I took that piece of advice right on.
I will always have a passion for theatre and hope one day to get back into it and hope it wont be an issue to get back on the techie ladder as it is hard! My back is on the mend thanks to great help - Meat you said about operations - Good luck and hope it goes well... They spoke to me about having spinal done, I freaked... Anything like that is scary no matter how old or young you are.
Sorry for perhaps going off on a tangent there but basically I wanna say that this DVD is beautiful piece of art.. It captures the whole production of lighting and sound and effects really well and the way the camera shot the show really do make you feel like you are there... I feel like I am still part of my work.. Brings back so many great memories..
I also love the new arrangements to songs, its always good to freshen them up from time to time and Meat and the band, you have clearly worked your socks off to make this happen and I want to say thank you to YOU.
No matter what the feedback is from an album or dvd you will always have many more who love it and value it greatly. So what if something goes wrong during a show, its a live show... Anything can happen, thats the beauty of it... I bloody love the new DVD and I am very much greatful for it.
I look forward to the last UK tour... Cant wait! I'll be able to stand there drooling in amazement of another great show :)
Thank you once again Meat and certainly to the band and crew for many years of happiness :D
Roll on 2013 and 2014!! :D
x Ross x

Just watched it. Quick first thoughts- All I can really say is that this is as good as I imagined it to be. My instant highlights are certainly Rock n Roll dreams (best version I’ve heard) Peace on earth is superb- better than the album version IMO. Holy shit Two out of three is great especially the instrumental- maybe the best thing I've seen or heard on ANY Meat live DVD, Stole the frickin show, Didn't think I would say that.
Vocally Meat is good, some odd points but on a whole he completely nails it and there are moments that are vocally terrific (personally in a live DVD I look more towards the show/spectacle rather than the vocal). Only disappointments really are the swearing being blipped out (bit ridiculous to me) and the documentary was nothing special (I didn't see Patti in my version, maybe I got detracted).
To sum it up: Meat has said he has the best band in the world, this DVD just proves it.

My taste is the opposite. I always prefer the vocals over instrumentals and I think Meat sounds great. Patti does too. SITS was the highlight of the concert for me.
And Meat, sound your whistle loud! They didn't bother to include the interview you filmed with Patti in the documentary.

I can confirm that the Meat & Patti interview isn't part of the documentary, which is a shame, I was looking forward to it based on the small EPK clip. Patti is seen with the band and things, but no interview x
the EPK was concert one's so maybe shes on the US release.

Either that ... or maybe because it was filmed later (when we were in New Brunswick)
it was too late to add it to the documentary :??: I would assume the documentary would be
the same on all of the DVD releases ....
That's a shame :(
Either that ... or maybe because it was filmed later (when we were in New Brunswick)
it was too late to add it to the documentary :??: I would assume the documentary would be
the same on all of the DVD releases ....
basically that little segment seemed complete. what more needed to be said. She is his rock.

definately looking forward to march/april next year now...cant come quick enough !
WE are getting Ready to do our last big Tour in the UK and where we can in Europe. in 2 Acts . Bat is the second Act in order of the Record. I think that is cool !! I'm going to have to have a Knee replacement in Dec. Ouch !!
what a day ...
my guilty pleasure dvd arrived, just watched it and LOVE it!!! best dvd ever, thank you sooo much for this! it's really incredible good ...
then over 100 new posts here, mostly great news (tour, storyteller, ...) and again thank you, Meat, for taking so much of your time for us!
only bad news your knee replacement surgery: wish you all the best for it, don't get too scared like me when I needed a toe surgery ... my blood pressure was so high that they even didn't tell me ...
I'm sure the docs will do their best and you'll be fine!!!
thank you, Meat, for everything you do!!!

How odd .. I ordered one from Amazon for a friend today and got a dispatch date of 4 October. And yes, it's still a shipment ;)
A pleasant surprise - my shipment has arrived earlier than its revised date.
My next two hours are now fully booked.

Hey Meat,
Watched the dvd twice now, You should be proud off the final product, you sound amazing, your having fun, personally it most probally the best dvd/live album you've released, the band sound the best they've ever been, the new arrangements off old songs work really well, whats not to like about?
keep up the good work meat, can't wait for the 2013 tour, :)

I know the bride and groom take time off after a wedding, but I'm not sure the guests are supposed to?
A great addition to the DVD collection.

Typical that that should happen when the show is being recorded for DVD! Still, at least Meat was able to smile about it.
Highlights for me are 'Rock and Roll Dreams', 'Stand in the Storm' and 'Living on the Outside'. Meat gives a great performance and the band really do shine on this DVD.
All in all, another 'hit' as far as I'm concerned! :D

So i've had my first watch through but it was interrupted many times by the Mother in law and various things. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
Also had to watch it on PC as I didn't have any other option at the time.
I think i'll leave my definitive opinion for another time until I can watch it through in one go on a decent tele with surround sound, but my initial thoughts are it was very good. I loved so many things about it. The camera shots racing around, the sense of energy, of being there, the lighting was great, it looked real! I know that sounds stupid but it was the most real looking concert DVD i've ever seen, the HD definitely made a difference. The band were fantastic, Meat was pretty vocally strong throughout.
There was just one thing I was a bit disappointed with, and I really hate to criticise anything you do Meat because you did do a great job on this DVD. It's just my view alone but to be honest with you I was a bit disappointed at how Anything For Love was cut at the start. I was looking forward to seeing the whole song so I thought that was a bit of a shame. Having said that I thought it was brave of you to try something new on that song and it still sounded good.
So overall a big thumbs up from me, although I really must watch it properly on a decent tele!
Meat would you ever. Consider. To sing just won't quit. How much i love that song them lyrics. Are out of this world i never seen you sing it live i think. You done it on the story tellers tour
I loved "Objects" during '06-'07 and would (of course!) enjoy hearing you sing it again. But ever since you asked this question, my mind has been doing a weird thing: I am hearing you sing "Left In the Dark" with your 2012 voice, and what was already a heartbreaking song becomes just devastating. How can I get emotional over you singing a song in my head, when I haven't even heard you do it live? ..beats me, but I am!
-Kathy
Yes" All coming back" and CHSIB also trying to put Testify into "Giving tree"

Is it still a shipment if it comes by plane?
How odd .. I ordered one from Amazon for a friend today and got a dispatch date of 4 October. And yes, it's still a shipment ;)
Mrs. Chairboys was tracking my order. It now transpires she spun me a yarn. Without me knowing, she had order a few extra items for Christmas and so, hoping that she would catch the post before me, I was hoodwinked and lied to and told it was coming a few days later. A white lie, mind. Suffice to say, her trickery backfired.
It goes to show that women are devious ***s! :-)
I do love her, though (really I do, honestly)

Good news about a Blu-Ray release. I did some searching and found a tweet made by PromoScape (an Australian DVD/Blu Ray manufacturer) back in August - https://twitter.com/PromoScape/statuses/233758159439794177
So I decided to email them to find out more. I got a very prompt reply with the following - "Yes it is being released. It has gone off to replication." At the moment, I'm trying to find out a release date for it but, at the very least, it looks like it will be getting an Australian release.

I got my DVD yesterday. I love it, really is like the show experience. The response of the crowd to Bat as the third song was just as electric as the show in Newcastle, the rest of the show builds from that. The CD is in my car and luckily I got stuck in a traffic jam for an hour tonight!!

I can confirm that the Meat & Patti interview isn't part of the documentary, which is a shame, I was looking forward to it based on the small EPK clip. Patti is seen with the band and things, but no interview x
That is truly a shame that Meat paid to reshoot it, and they still didn't include the interview with Patti. :(

I think the recording at New Brunswick was additional footage rather than a re-shoot. Some of the earlier recorded footage is used, and I thought some of the additional shoot. I agree it's a shame that his interview with Patti is omitted though.

So, I've just finished watching for the first time, and it was fantastic. The CD will be going straight into the car tomorrow morning.
I've waited patiently for a year (nearly) and all I can say is I'd wait it out again if I had to. Thanks so much Meat, thanks for giving us all you can :)
I noticed that they cut some of Meat's banter and talking between songs here and there, for a good while it seems like its just song after song, but I guess its necessary if they want to get in as much music as they can! I think the talk in took the words is all there. PREACHER LOAF in full swing, in all his glory :)
Was it just me or were there words cut from the start of AFL? Forgive me but I don't remember if that happened or not, I do remember hearing the intro feeling like a bad fan for not knowing what it was automatically though lol.
Paradise made me laugh right out loud, hearing the dialogue between Patti and Meat again. I also Lmao at Justin's face at one point during freebird, in fact, everyone on that stage seemed to be having a ball.
As I watched it there were times that brought a smiley tear to my eye, times that brought a sad tear to my eye, but mostly... Mostly times that brought a happy smile to my face because I got to be there, and this is a fantastic reminder for me.
I loved the sound, I loved the lighting, didn't like the clown horn over the naughty words so much, but at least they didn't blur your naughty finger Meat! :) My TV made it seem a bit blurry, but I'm pretty sure that's just my TV.
Thanks for all you do Meat, from the bottom of my heart.

That we all must be suprised about bat being 3rd and to excuse him while he goes around the stage and picks up his body parts,
When he talks about hang cool teddy bear and hiahb and that they are going to do 3 songs from hiahb
When he says that a lot has been said about him in the media, but he doesn't care (they included a little of this in the doco)
I think that's it.
Other than mercury I'm pretty sure that the show is complete musically from memory.

It doesn't have good picture quality. I have watched on my mac and on my 60 inch LED tv, and neither has provided a picture from this thing. Simply too dark IMO. So it's not just you.

It's not the darkness that seems to be a problem on my computer. The picture seems quite pixellated (that's the closest word I can think of to describe it) on my desktop. I might have to try it on my laptop to see if it differs at all.
Sebastian.

I've not had a problem with picture. Both on a 22'' LCD PC screen and a 32'' TV.
Can't wait to try it in Saudi on a 60'' with surround sound!
It's kinda blurry/pixellated on my TV, its worst when the blue lights are on. I was going to watch it on either my laptop or tv in my bedroom tonight to see if it was any different, but its just too late right now.

Yeah me either, mine was a cracking picture on an old 32' HD ready TV. Weird how people are seeing things differently, I guess it depends on different TV's, different settings etc.
Good call on PS3 btw, I haven't tried it yet through that.

First ill say what I didn't like: Living on the Outside, Stand in the Storm, and the documentary. ill get to those two songs in a bt but the documentary was bad in both picture and sound. they used CAMERA AUDIO for the interviews and it wasn't edited that great (a lot of black frames). the concert footage too in the documentary seemed unmastered. No interviews with ANY of the band members. none. Would’ve rather had a commentary track.
now ... the track by track analysis... the nitty gritty.

This was fantastic. Now that mel said what banter was cut that would’ve been more awesome for what he says after. That was epic. A few moments that was a bit cluttered, but it was still a great performance.

"I dont Think so!!!"
POE: 5/5
What a great performance. My favorite moment was his “they say to me hang cool teddy bear … I don’t think so!” This was sooo great the staging, the lighting. It was one of my favorites off the DVD.

"come on baby, read with me"
LOTO: 3/5
One of the two very weak points of the DVD. Its just meat is out of time for a lot of it. Dunno if it was a problem with the headset or what. He sound greta when he was on point tho, Best live version ive heard, but I wish some lines were in more time.

"I emptyed out my pocketttttttts"
Los Angeloser: 5/5
Utterly fantastic. Loved how Patti sang her parts. So energetic and Meat sounded amazing. Every live version I heard never captured this song until now! Loved how he sang "emptied out my pockettts".

"let me hear you say 'amen!'"
Took The Words: 5/5
The best version of Took the words post 1993. Justin’s intro was awesome and we got PREACHER MEAT! Audience banter at its finest. Something that was missing from 3 Bats Live.

Rock & Roll Dreams: 6/5
The greatest thing ever. 11 minutes of awesomeness. Long-0ass sax solo, Meat on top form, and a kick ass arrangement. This was awesome. The best performance bar none on the DVD. Loved how meat goes "come on patricia during the interlude before justin's epic solo.
http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee331/WarioLoaf/09SITS.png
"where's my cowgirl?
"right here cowboy!"
SITS: 2/5
Hated it. Auto tuned like crazy and sounded so artificial. One of only 2 songs on this DVD I didn’t like. I did like though patti referenced his secondary MLUKFC username at the start (cowboy)

"sooner or later you'll be screwing around"
Anything for Love: 5/5
Fantatsic,. Loved the abridged version and arrangement. My best friend watched this with me and said he preferred the intro to the piano-vocal one. LOVED this and meat sounded AWESOME. SO FREAKING AWESOME. Patti was amazing. This was her best vocal of the night.
http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee331/WarioLoaf/11TOOT.png
"If Jim were here he'd be in that front seat screaming at the top of his lungs for what you just saw"
Two Out Of Three: 5/5
Ridiculous. Like a 3 minute violin/piano duel. Its crazy. My favorite moment of the DVD is quoted above.
Mats voice on this one was jaw dropping

"I went against the cardinal rules fellas... never make a girl cry"
Paradise: 4/5
26 freaking minutes. 26 minutes of awesomeness. Paradise was awesome but Where were the telitubbies????? Meat sounded great, patti was excellent, but the reason it gets a 4 is cause of the goshdarn clown noise on the f words. You just have to watch it. Its an episode of a TV show in the middle of a concert DVD.
http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee331/WarioLoaf/13Boneyard.png
"Oh you gotta let the good times roll baby!"
Boneyard / All Revved Up: 3.5/5
Ive heard better Boneyards on bootlegs, and I wish meat wore his red coat during it. Needed more Justin. Another thing im confused with is why they cut the :son of a bitch” lines. Was it performed like that just for the DVD. The end was satisfying, but I kept thinking mercury would show but I remembered concert-one fudged it up,.
Overall the DVD was excellent, well worth the wait. The echo never bothered me..
Didnt like the transitions though between songs, the camera was white balanced that great either. I think the blurriness comes form the High iso on the camera. cause of them making the shots darker.
I wish we could’ve gotten mercury blues, dead ringer, all of me, and song of madness soundboards as extras.
Paradise was awesome but Where were the telitubbies?????

The new DVD has finally reached me here in Norway and I just have to say that it is fantastic Meat! :D Thank you so much for giving us moments like this!
I've only seen you perform live once (2008, Bergen/Norway), but I really, really hope that I get another chance.
Rock on!
Thanks for your review Wario :-) I haven't gotten my copy so I can't comment on anything you've posted ;)
but Rock & Roll Dreams and Peace On Earth are two of the songs that I'm truly looking forward to seeing :D
Wario, I quite liked SITS and I think it sounded fine on the dvd.
As for Boneyard, I don't have anything to compare that to but I thought it was great and I'm so glad I finally have a copy of the song! Freebird was one of my highlights of the night too

Boneyard never really stood out to me when I saw it in concert and I don't think I remember anything about the performance of it so this DVD gave me the opportunity to take in the performance of the song. It's not one I rate as my favourite live songs but it wasn't bad.
I enjoyed watching the concert and the highlights of the DVD for me were Bat Out of Hell, Peace on Earth and Paradise.
I didn't rate the documentary all that highly. I'd have preferred an 'In Search of Paradise' type documentary which followed Meat and the band rather than having all that talk from those crew members.
You know what.... I absolutely adore this dvd, every single bit of it. Blurr or no blurr.
So, how do I deal with that ISO thing?
Ohhhh and just remembered some more talking that was cut. Meat explained before Paul's solo how Paul had wanted a acoustic solo because Randy had one and Paul cried lol. I put it in my concert review way back. He said how you have to treat guitarists like kids or something, if one has something you have to give it to the other too lol.
It's the best I remember it off the top of my head.

Better glasses maybe.:-)
It's kinda blurry/pixellated on my TV, its worst when the blue lights are on. I was going to watch it on either my laptop or tv in my bedroom tonight to see if it was any different, but its just too late right now.
Still happy to have the DVD :) I still love it

The picture quality when the blue lights are on is awful on one of my TVs, which was played through a PS3. Am gonna try it out on a different TV and through a DVD player when I get a chance, to see if it makes a difference.

Brace yourselves..... here I go!
I've been waiting long. too long and hard for this DVD and by golly its the best two hours of my life everrrrrr.
"Really had a good time!"
Hot Patootie / Time Warp: 5/5
This was utterly fantastic. Meat was energetic, the arrangement kicked ass and the band was so strong. My favorite part is his “come on!” after the Time Warp section.
"You Gotta.... Break it!"
Break It: 5/5
Ive never been a break it supporter … until now. This just freaking rocked. Meat was incredible and the band looked like they were having a blast. Only thing I wish their was more of the the water gun. Loved how meat kept saying "You gotta!"

Thanks for the review Wario and the great pics! Going through I gotta agree with most of your points.
I felt the documentary was quite a let down. No band members, not enough Meat. The SFM realise people bought this to see Meat right? Badly thought out. And yes you're right the concert footage in the documentary sounded different from the final version so that was very amatuerish to miss that.
Considering the vocal chord problems Meat was having at the time he has done an ASTOUNDING job vocally on this DVD. Meat you should be proud of yourself. I thought every track was a strong vocal performance.
The songs themselves there were so many highlights it's hard to pick them out. Best version of Break It i've heard bar none, best version of Los Angeloser ever done, that was just absolute perfection.
But the two outstanding highlights for me were Rock N Roll Dreams and Two Out Of Three, for the simple fact they had the most jaw dropping, amazing, incredible instrument playing solos in them i've ever seen. I couldn't get enough of the sax in Rock N Roll dreams, or the incredible accoustic intro to that song, or the incredible talents of Justin and Ginny in Two Out Of Three. Meat has never had a better band than this.
On that note can we please have a BIG hand for Ginny Luke. When Meat did MSO it was incredible, and a big part of that was because of the addition of the orchestra, the extra instrumentation added a huge amount to that show, and i've always felt since then that something was missing. But not any more! Ginny Luke may not be an entire orchestra, but her violin alone adds so much to the songs it's incredible! She has taken the songs to another level on this DVD, an amazing talent.
I've got to say I loved Stand In The Storm. I understand what people are saying about autotune, but until I hear from the horses mouth that it was autotuned i'm going to believe it was a great vocal performance.
I understand people are having problems with the picture on this DVD, but it must be down to peoples individual TV's and their settings because on mine it has the best picture i've ever seen on a Meat DVD bar none. So i'd advise people to tinker with the tele settings.
The only things I didn't like out of the whole show were the cut intro into AFL (although that is growing on me), and like you Wario I also felt sometimes that the songs were cut together a bit too closely at some points, so it took away a bit from the concert feel, it made you think there was more to be seen but you wasn't going to get to see it if you know what I mean. On reflection it's just a personal view, but I would have liked to see the documentary get cut and have the full show.
Nonetheless, it's a fantastic watch and I also love listening to the CD elsewhere, so i'd like to give a big heartfelt thanks to Meat and the band for doing an incredible job. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH, THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for your review Wario :-) I haven't gotten my copy so I can't comment on anything you've posted ;)

No Teletubbies? Good.
Yes, the Teletubbies were cut. The weird Wonderland characters didn't make any sense in the song to me either. Meat said he and Patti were going on a date but we never got to see the date because the play-by-play started before they were back onstage. Otherwise, Paradise had fantastic vocals, chemistry, and improv by Meat and Patti. I didn't really like the segment before Paradise. I know they were stalling because of a costume change, but there would have been time for another song in the setlist at that point.

It's really interesting to read everyone's differing opinions and tastes. The highlight for me was the vocals. Meat sounded really great. Way to go! Patti sounded fantastic, but I wish she had the opportunity to sing more lead. The band is talented but the instrumentals were much too long for my taste. There would have been time for a couple extra songs if the instrumentals were shortened. I did enjoy the instrumentals in Rock N Roll Dreams, but not in Two Out of Three- it sounded like a different song to me. My favorites on the dvd were actually the new songs- LOTO, LA, and SITS. The documentary was a big letdown for me- no interviews with the band and the interview with Patti was omitted. Very disappointing. But nice job by Meat, Patti, and the band.

I haven't received my copy yet, but didn't Wario say "Paradise" was 26 minutes long? If they had not edited it the DVD would have consisted of around 3 or 4 songs. Sometimes "Paradise" runs on a bit too long, I think they got it about perfect on the MMW tour, but I did not time it or anything LOL.

The DVD is great, the show great, Meat's energy is ok. But most of it is vocally re-done, I don't know if they re-do the vocals in the studio or if they just record Meats voice at the show and autotune it, anyone can help me to know how they do it?
Oh and for the sceptics, please watch/hear the beginning of Hot Patootie on the documentary and compare it to the "remastered" version of the Live DVD.
This is my personal opinion, but I would have preferrerd to have a DVD of The UK Hang Cool Tour, as his voice was exellent and wouldn't have needed so many overdubbs.
I understand this is a product that goes to the masses, but as a fan I prefer Meat's "real" voice, even if it is shot (and apparently it was shot in Australia).

Okay first of all Meat said they were keeping about 80% of the vocals so actually you're way wrong, most of the vocals are genuine. Also I remember in exactly the same post he said he wasn't happy with Hot Patootie so yes that was one of the songs redone. Me too. I want a great sounding performance no matter what had to be done to make it the best possible . Almost every "live" CD and DVD had fixes done. Some of the most famous "Live" albums of all time were not really live at all yet sold multi-platinum. I'm sure if Meat had been psychic he would have chosen a show without a bleeding vocal chord but he went on anyway as a true pro does. I just got my copy and can't wait until my meeting tonight ends so I can finally experience it. I just moved apartments so I guess I better not blast it too loud at night LOL.

I got a defective disc that started having freeze up issues after a few audio glitches early on. Still I have seen the DVD and think overall it was very good. As stated I am glad they did any overdubs they did. Watching at home is a different experience than seeing it live so some things that were great live come across totally different. I have no major issues. The majority of it was excellent. The dark parts are not as much of a concern on the big screen and I had no issues with the echo that was mentioned. Other than "Paradise" seeming to be 3 days long, it was a very good effort. Far superior to 3 Bats. I thought the first half flew by in comparison to the second part. Thank You to Meat and Paul for the work you put into this DVD. It is the best of the Meat Loaf DVD releases.
The DVD is great, the show great, Meat's energy is ok. But most of it is vocally re-done, I don't know if they re-do the vocals in the studio or if they just record Meats voice at the show and autotune it, anyone can help me to know how they do it?
How many people out of the thousands of fans Meat has are even going to notice that there were some edits to the vocals? There might be a few but I don't think that the majority of people are actually going to be all that worried.
When I buy a DVD I ask myself whether I enjoyed watching it and would I watch it again? The answer to both is a definate YES and quite frankly I couldn't care less that some of the vocals had had been redone because I enjoyed watching and listening to it.
The only things I felt were superior on 3 Bats Live were the Special Features (and the In Search of Paradise Documentary) and the picture quality but in my opinion, this new DVD is a superior performance.

I think they would notice it more if it were not touched up a bit. Doing that is pretty routine. They were set up to film with all the cameras and Meat had a serious vocal chord issue that unfortunately happened at the same time. The only thing better IMO about 3 Bats was that it was better lighted. The new disc had too much blue light and was a bit dark, more so on the computer screen than an LCD TV. I am just glad to have a DVD that is this good other than my physical disc having some quality defects with freeze ups and skipping.
Left In The Dark would be beautiful...and Justin on piano would take it places it has never gone before...stunning! I was a new fan and way up in the lawn for the Born To Rock Tour...I'd love to see the sensation you could make it now.
oh I agree, i love left in the dark. Also I'd love to see 'it just wont quit' love this song, 2nd FAV ever.
And I love the DVD, so powerful - and sounds great through my surround sound :) :D
Also regarding a storyteller show - I think this is a great idea. the storytellers dvd is so amazing, and i LOVE this the stories behind the songs...
Can't wait til your back in the UK Meat :D take care.
[...] the vast majority of the performance is genuine from on the night.
How do you know? Were you at the show?
But most of it is vocally re-done [...]
I don't know if they did anything with the vocals but what I've heard so far doesn't appeal to me. Listening to / watching clips on an online store confirmed the first impression I got when watching the promo videos on SFM's YouTube channel. The music appears to be great, I especially like the guitar solos and the addition of the violin. The arrangements are very powerful and rousing but unfortunately I'm disappointed by Meat's vocals. I listened to the samples several times hoping that my opinion would change but to no avail. :( I don't know if I'm gonna like this so I refrain from purchasing it for now.

Honestly, the clips do not do the show anywhere near justice. Playing the whole thing really gives the feel of being at a concert and all the parts come together brilliantly in a way that the yt clips cannot match.
I got my copy in the mail today and just watched it. All I can say is wow ...... that was truly amazing :D
I truly enjoyed every second of it from beginning to end. Meat is right when he said that he has the best rock
and roll band in the world and IMO he really knows how to use them :-)
Thank you both Meat and Paul very very much for all of your time and dedication with this amazing DVD, for
for bringing back some great memories of the HCTB tour, and making me feel like I was right there in the audience at
Sydney the entire night. Absolutely stunning, and truly wort the wait !! Thank you :D
P.S. I agree that the clips on YouTube definitely don't do it justice.

No I wasn't at the show but Meat posted that they were keeping about 80% of the vocals done on the night. I'd say that counts as a vast majority wouldn't you?
I agree with everyone else that you really can't judge unless you've seen the actual dvd.

From what I see/hear from the DVD their are not a lot of literal dubs, Hot Patootie may be an exception. There are however alterations to the original vocal throughout, done during post production (there are some auto-tuned sounding moments) but this is just to make it sound more natural and easier on the ear, its what was sung on the night but touched up for the purpose of a DVD, All necessary stuff.
Anyway, I've seen this a few times now. Seem to like it more every time. The DVD feels more personal, gritty, striped down with a sense of realism. It has done an exceptional job at making the music and performance the spectacle, there is no hiding behinds dramatic sets and fancy pyrotechnics, it has the spirit of a no messing, back to basics, traditional kick ass rock show. The elements of media production and performance compliments each other perfectly. And the edit is outstanding, so well thought out and timed precisely.

the only things cut here were some banters and mercury blues cause concert one sucks.

Well I like both very much!

I do too.

I didn't jugde the show / the DVD. I said that I'm not overly fond of the way Meat sounds in the clips I've seen. (Wonder how often I'll have to explain the difference between a judgement and an opinion / a preference on this forum...) If it was due to the clips not doing the DVD justice, how come I like - almost - everything else? I want to like the vocals. That's what Meat Loaf is famous for (aside from his unique way to perform) and what used to grab my attention and made me admire him. If they fail to attract me, I'm not interested, sorry. I'm not keen on spending about € 20 on something that might disappoint me.

This DVD is really good. It might not suit everyones ideal but it is really good quality.
Well I was at the show on the night, and I would bet on more than 80% of vocals being kept.
There are only a couple of points where I think "oh that sounds a little different to what it did on the night" not that its an issue for me. I love it.

Yesterday I received my Guilty Pleasure DVD/CD import. I knew it'd be hours before my evening would settle down for a proper viewing, but every last minute of waiting was worth it.
I have so much to comment on that I cannot wrap my thoughts in a neat little bundle. I can only relate that the DVD did it's job and then some because that's exactly how I feel after a show experience. Lord knows, I couldn't sleep after it either.
I absolutely LOVE the whole thing. You press play and whoosh you are off on the journey front and center. I cannot express how engaged I was in each song. I couldn't help but sing along. I was captivated. I don't understand a whole lot about technical things and the why and how part of it getting all done, but I know that if a mental checklist existed of everything I love in a Meat show....it would be all marked off and then some.
After a few shows on the Mad Mad World Tour, I actually let those shows eclipse the greatness of the shows I saw on the Hang Cool Tour (with the exception of one song on a very special evening). How dare I forget about the awesome Peace On Earth performances? And Bat being third in the set? Naw, just a temporary smoke screen by the Mad Mad World Tour ;) This DVD allows me to revisit those songs live. And by every ounce of his energy, Meat delivers it clearly in balls to the wall style.
Vocals: Oh Meat Oh My! Again, I don't care what was fixed and what wasn't fixed. I am one of the peeps that enjoys what Meat is put before me. While watching the whole DVD, I forgot that he was dealing with a Vocal Chord issue. Looking back now trying to gather myself, I feel so bad for Meat with that very point in time (for multiple reasons)....but he has managed to be the most consummate professional putting everything he had into performance, vocals, humor and love. I had no doubt he would, I never had one doubt about it! There are so many stand out Meat vocal highlights for me, I would actually have to scribe them down as I watched it again. The parts where the goosebumps well up or the my hair on my arms stand up on end.....yeah, those are the times where I want to reach out to Meat and say OH F~CK YEAH! {Sidebar: Bat third in the set and captured ON this DVD was a BIG F~CK YEAH!}
Musicianship: Now introducing, Randy's tricep muscle. He needs a license to carry that thing! lol. Next up, the talented Ginny Luke. I love her contributions to the songs. It was fresh facelift on some timeless pieces. The solo in 2 Out Of 3 is right up my alley. I am a fan of the extensions in 2 Out Of 3....I loved Justin's solo the first night I saw it during the Hang Cool Tour....and now I love this treasure from the Guilty Pleasure DVD. I think everyone is in accord with the tightness of the band and the skill each possess. They are all wonderful on stage and off. I love that they can bring Meat's masterful auditory plan to our ears.
Lighting/Picture Quality: The stage was lit.... I saw fog....I saw the band....I saw some graphics in the background.....I think I saw Alice In Wonderland......most importantly I saw Meat and I loved every cascading moment of it. My picture quality was sharp right down to the color of Meat's gum (you thought I was going to say eyes right?)
Documentary: I took away a lot of information from this "State of Meat Address", by some people who work super close to Meat. So close that they know his tenacious work ethic, always striving for the best of himself to give to his fans. These people "know" Meat and have said things we knew from Meat, but these are testimonials. I found the bonus footage a bit fascinating and drove home the ideals of Meat. It really just commanded the word I've always had for him, RESPECT.
Emotions: 1. The moment where he took to thank the fans back from 1978. (I am one, he just hasn't known of my existence for very long is all). 2. The very end where he mouths the words with double hand/body language gesturing. I. LOVE. YOU. He hit me right in the heart with those two simple things!
CD: Is now in my car for my listening pleasure.
Thank You: And much respect to Paul's production skills and for your intellect of Meat's visions. The band for the killer instincts to turn it up to 11!!! Patti for being Meat's beautiful rock. And to Meat, for not just this DVD but for all your generosity, time, and considerations for your fan base.....on forum and off.

I knew I'd forget something!
The Sex Music part........I tried but I simply can't ignore it, I completely went to a naughty place. He did the Meat groans and moans. I may as well fess up and come clean.....THAT WAS HOT!

I finally got my hands on a copy. Was worth the wait :D
For the most part, I think it was pretty decent. It was pretty much everything I was expecting, plus a little more. There were a few small things which annoyed me though:
+ The backing vocals. Why, why, why are they auto tuned? I always find the sound of auto tune / vocal correction to be one of the most frustrating things imaginable in my music. Here, it isn't too bad for the most part, but at times it's just over done. I can't listen to Stand in the Storm because of it.
+ Like Rob mentioned above, this version of Anything for Love isn't really to my taste. That's not really a critique of the DVD itself, just my personal preference. I liked it the first few times I heard it, but after getting acquainted with it I miss the signature piano intro. It's not quite the same without :( It's an interesting difference though. I still like Justin's piano work at the start, and John's drums, when they kick in, are just insane
+ There are times when Meat's vocals are on par with 3 Bat Lives. Two out of Three, Took the Words and Anything For Love don't do it for me at all :3 With that said, there's one note that Meat hits near the end of Anything For Love that gave me shivers. He holds the "do" of the "I won't do that" for ages, and it's just nailed to perfection. Very, very cool.
+ There's a few production bits which made me raise an eyebrow. There are parts where the audience noise sounds unnatural, it just sort of comes out of nowhere really abruptly and far too loudly. Not a big problem, though.
+ I never agreed with the lighting issues people were complaining about before the DVD was released, but now that I've actually seen it...yeah, I do sort of agree. You can't see shit at times.
+ The echo some people mentioned is actually really, really noticable at points. I don't really understand why anyone would put so much delay on vocals, but ok o.0
+ Why the hell is Rock and Roll Dreams not on the CD? I want to carry it with me everywhere I'll ever go in life >.<
Those are really my only issues and they're pretty minor :D There's a few rhythmic issues in Living on the Outside which is a bit distracting, too, but I didn't think it was worth a whole dot point :P On the other hand...
+ The vocals on Bat out of Hell are ~~~~ing amazing. I'm sorry, but that is hands down one of the best performances I've heard in ages. Totally, undeniably brilliant.
+ I like how they mixed up the spoken bit on Los Angeloser. The bass solo is legendary, and I liked the "No disrespect to any of the man out there" addition. I smirked :P
+ The intro to Took the Words is the best intro I've ever heard for the song. Justin's piano under the speech at the start works so well, and when it builds up to the opening power chords...yeah. I liked this :P
+ Rock and Roll Dreams. Do I need to say anything more? Justin is, hands down, the best pianist the Neverland Express has ever seen. The man's a freak on the piano.
+ Justin and Ginny's solo in Two out of Three. See my Rock and Roll Dreams section for more detail :D
+ The violin in general. It's such a good addition to the band, I love the tone of it. It's particularly awesome in Bat out of Hell, on the "I'll come crawling on back to you." Beautiful :D
+ Randy and Paul's guitar solos before Two out of Three and Rock and Roll Dreams. Some of the best guitar work I've ever heard. I like Randy's little laugh at the end of his. He knows he's awesome (and rightly so) :P
I've ranted for long enough. I love this DVD, despite the negatives I posted above :D
Meat is right when he said that he has the best rock and roll band in the world and IMO he really knows how to use them :-)
...
P.S. I agree that the clips on YouTube definitely don't do it justice.
I could not agree more with both of these :D

My biggest problem with this dvd aside from the terrible quality is the fact that I cant hear Meat singing most of the time mainely in RNRD but when I do hear him he sounds awesome. I just think whoever done all the editing and whatever else didn't really know what they were doing and made a mess out of it. I can't believe we had to wait a year for this, oh and what's up with bleeping out the f bombs??? It sounds really stupid!!!
I reeally do wish I liked this dvd as much as some of you but I think it's a mess and the only good things about it are TOOT, BOOH, POE, SITS and Boneyard
IMO 3 bats live is far superior than this and of course it doesn't come close to MSO
Live in Tunica, MS now that would be an amazing DVD!!!
With that said, there's one note that Meat hits near the end of Anything For Love that gave me shivers. He holds the "do" of the "I won't do that" for ages, and it's just nailed to perfection. Very, very cool.
I remember a girl sat behind me said to her mate "that was an amazing note" right when that happened

Was Ginny the Alice character? It was way too dark to tell. Whoever it was looked fetching in that outfit :D . If I were going to edit down anything form what made the DVD, "Paradise" would have been the one thing. I thought it was perfect on the MMW Tour at about half the length on the DVD. But it is a minor quibble.

Yes it was Ginny. :D Perhaps Meat adjusted Paradise on the MMW Tour based on what he learned from the Guilty Pleasure Tour. He's always changing and perfecting. Maybe he knew it ran long...but there was a lot going on. They committed to the scenes that played out and it took as long as it took. I'm glad to have seen what took place in AU because Meat usually changes Paradise every tour launch somehow.
I know he adjusted Paradise almost nightly during the MMW Tour because at the very least the story changed....Patti's lobster dinner got bigger and bigger every show (per reviews written and the shows I went to) . Then by Clearwater, he dropped the dinner menu bit altogether. I'm not sure what version you witnessed by the time it came to your neck of the woods.
So yeah, the length of Paradise is always a variable....I see it as there is no set time where Paradise needs to end. It takes as long as it does to have the story in Meat's head play out the way he wants it to be told/sung. That given, there are a few things I can always take away from a Paradise performance no matter how long or short.....1. The first kiss in the make out session (should there be one) is always a timely intense HOT moment. 2. there is always a humorous banter and 3. often times there is a shot to Meat's "big surprise" by the end!
The version of Paradise on the DVD was different than the Hang Cool Tour and at the end of the evening, I'm glad to have another version I have now seen.

Was the violin on AFL added in the studio? On some of the songs, she doesn't appear to be playing at the right times in the video. I remember she tweeted about recording extra violin parts in the studio.

The only thing better IMO about 3 Bats was that it was better lighted.
I thought the lighting and the setlist were better in 3 Bats Live. There were so many great hits in that show. The audio is definitely better on Guilty Pleasure and Patti's back. I think a Patti solo like The Future or Seize the Night could have added a lot to this dvd. She didn't get to sing much lead in the show and she wasn't mentioned at all in the documentary. :?

Yeah a UK show wouldve been better (with DRFL and SOM) its stil la great disk.
Something else about a UK show is the excitement of the audiences. During Dead Ringer For Love, girls were dancing atop their guys' shoulders at the UK shows. That kind of enthusiastic audience would have added a lot to the atmosphere.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they were allowed for use in arenas but not on video or something along those lines. Even without them Paradise clocks in at 26 minutes, so time may have also been a consideration. I like Little Bo Peep ;) at least I think that is what she is supposed to be, but wish she could be seen better.

I really do have a hard time understanding how some people can let themselves be goaded so easily.
It just seems to me that there are people, to quote AC/DC, 'Spoiling for a fight' in here and there are those that are happy to come up, or down, to their level.
If you don't like something that's ok and if you disagree or have an wave of disbelief as to how someone could dislike something then just take a step back and try to understand that not everyone will feel the same way as you.
Your 110 % might only be someone else's 50%...remember that.
If we were all the same it'd be pretty dull wouldn't it?

Oh, i thought someone mentioned they were on the show but not the dvd
They were at the Melbourne show I went to. I'm sure that at around that time someone mentioned they were also at the Sydney show, because I knew in advance that they were going to be there. I could be mis-remembering, though, that was a long time ago now
@ Vicki and Deena: lol, that's what I thought - Alice in Wonderland! I thought Ginny was wonderful btw; I loved her soulful violin.
I don't have a "review" just because I've been way too busy, but the DVD certainly deserves that, and thanks to Chris for his review :)
I loved Guilty Pleasure, and thought the picture quality and lighting were great! I just have an ordinary TV set, a big old Sony with a picture tube, lol, but the DVD played sharp and clear on it!
And the show itself is wonderful!! Meat sounds great, and it's so good to get these songs on a DVD, such as Boneyard, although it's been changed since AU. Meat always improves things as he goes along :)
For me it's so true that this DVD is the next-best thing to being there. It has that feel, that heart-stopping excitement of standing at the stage, that upon 1st watching made me half forget I was watching a video. I was just telling a friend today that there was a bit at the beginning of Paradise that I LOVED and it didn't even occur to me to grab the remote and see the bit again, like I normally would!
I don't know if that "you are there" feel is because of the lighting or the way it was filmed. I did love the way it was filmed/edited! Whoever put it together picked out really excellent moments not just for Meat but for all the band members, which makes it a very "personal" video. This alone sets Guilty Pleasure apart from any previous DVD imo.
The censoring during Paradise was annoying but I think someone went to some trouble to minimize the annoyance. The f**k yous sounded a little like they were through a kazoo to me. An actual "bleep" or even a dead spot would have been much worse. If they were forced to censor it, they at least did their best to make it ok.
I just saw Concert One's EPK Clip 05 tonight, with Meat and Patti (his rock) and I loved it, it was so sweet, and I'm both sorry and mystified about its omission from the final product.
I've only seen Guilty Pleasure once (including the documentary) but I will definitely watch it many, many more times! :)
P.S. thanks to Mel for your comments about the Sydney show; there's no substitute for seeing the live show :)

Right you are Deena :-) There was Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit ;)
Thanks for clarifying, that part of the DVD was pretty dark.
