View Full Version : All of Me on the radio
I didn't really know where to put this, so please move if needed, I was just so damn excited!
Oh.... My..... Freaking....... GOD! I just left work to run an errand. Turn on the radio, nothing good on my usual. So I do a flick, I end up settling on some small, university station. I hear something so familiar.... "It saddens me to think I cannot turn back the hands of time...." I had to check I hadn't turned my CD player on instead.... They played All Of Me.... Wow.

Amazing. I have not heard Meat on broadcast radio in at least 8 to 10 years. I have heard him on "in-store" radio at Walgreens, where I also hear Steinman songs as well. The Clear Channel "classic rock" station won't even play anything from "Bat". I just traveled about 500 miles and every classic rock station plays the exact same stuff, no variety whatsoever.

in Germany they sometimes play bat or modern girl ... but not so often ...
i'm always excited too, if i can hear meat on the radio :-)
they should play his songs really often .. imo :-) - not always that mainstream stuff - that's annoying ...

cmon, main stations (SWR3, WDR2...) also still play Anything For Love and Took The Words every once in a while here in Germany
yeah in the us afl, ttw, 2/3, and paradise get a generous amount of airtime.
britan i hear drfl and the ocastional rrd or modern gitl radio mainstays
Generally here in Oz, we'll get Bat, paradise, took the words, 2 outta 3, all revved up or afl pretty regular.
Stuff played not often but still getting plays, heaven can wait, rock and roll dreams (both Jim and Meat's) dead ringer, and apparently also lemon but I've never heard it myself.
I'd never heard All of Me on the radio before this other than the promo stuff when he was here.
I sent the station a feedback thing and thanked them for playing it

The last time I tried requesting a Meat Loaf song the classic rock station guy actually laughed at the idea. I emailed the AC station about playing CHSIB but the guy said it never made their rotation, I replied asking for 2 Out of 3 but he said it wasn't even in their system.
That's terrible

Why do you need to call up to a radio station to request that they play these songs?
Do you not already own them? Also, we have YouTube and services like that.
In the past people requested songs because you couldn't Bring your record collection with you everywhere you went.
Why do you need to call up to a radio station to request that they play these songs?
And why not?

There is definitely an "extra" pleasure in hearing your favourite artists on the radio. Maybe it's the comfort of knowing the nation (or hospital!) is also listening to (or enduring) a song that has meaning to you.
Last Friday, on my way home from work Radio 2 played "Princess of the Night" by the mighty rock band Saxon. It was a request on a very middle of the road radio station and a track that I had never ever heard before on it.
I have the song in my collection, yet it bleeding well made the short journey home more bearable!!
So, requests aren't so bad!
PS I would never ring in but appreciate those who do!

Western Australia is apparently luckier than Victoria :( Over here we get Took the Words and Two Out of Three a lot (as in, regularly), but that's about it. I've heard Paradise a few times, but it's really just those two. I'd love to hear Rock and Roll Dreams or Lemon. It'd be a nice treat to wake up to in the morning on the way to wherever :D

A good reason is that you can easily put the CD in your CD player and listen to the song in higher quality. Same thing with mp3 players.
Also, the radio tends to play cut versions of ML songs. For obvious reasons.

What I meant is, if I want to call my local radio station and ask for a song to be played, forcing every other b@st@rd to hear it like they do to me, why can't I?
Sure, I have them on CD, sure, I could listen to them instead. Sometimes its just nice to know its on the radio and other people are hearing it.

its amazing how it used to be the poster child of the album and is not in teh actual tour set list. Its kinda odd, guess things change
