I am taking Mrs Chairboys away for a rare break in Feb to the Yorkshire Dales. This is an area of our lovely country that I have somehow never been to.
We will have a couple of full days to do things. Does anyone have some recommendations of places to visit? We are staying just a few miles north of Skipton.

Fact!
Haven't been there for years, but I remember how good their food was

There's one in Pickering that would run it close (can't remember the name right now, but I could give directions lol)
If you're around Skipton area then Malham Cove is worth a visit, also Stump Cross Caverns and Brimham Rocks arent too far away. If the weather's bad then you'll either get stuck where you are or not get there, but if the roads are open then Harrogate is worth a day trip too (plug for the home town lol)

I marshal at various motorsport events & sometimes it feels as though I spend half of my life in the Yorks Dales. There are simply too many places worth visiting. Your best bet is simply pick somewhere to be based from & go from there.
Pickering is a good choice for a base just about everywhere is easily accessable and if you fancy a change Flamingoland & Scarborough are a few minutes away.

You are getting Mrs. Chairboys excited! :-)
If you are staying round Skipton then Famingoland and Scarborough are are good 1&1/2 to 2 hrs away (they're in the Yorkshire Moors rather than the Dales).
Masham is a another Dales destination that's well worth a visit, especially if you like real ale. Home to both the Theakstons and Black Sheep Breweries, a tour round each is worth it for the free beer and the differing stories of family rivalry over the last couple of decades.

Will probably drive to Harrogate and ask the first person I see if they know AndyK ?
Since the majority of my family still live there, there's a high chance that they'll say yes!

Very impressive, but does it beat Wycombe's worldwide reputation for making seats out of wood?:lol:
And Meat has never played the Wycombe Swan.
P.S I do like a nice cuppa!

Alongside Runnymede in Surrey, people in Harrogate drink alcohol to more hazardous levels than anywhere else in the UK.
And it was the place where Crimplene was invented.

These places do look as though they are worth a visit. I'm sure Malham Cove has been featured on TV before! I notice some guy spent a world record 105 days in the Caverns (all in the name of science). And Brimham Rocks are National Trust owned - I took out a family membership with the NT last year and it has been THE best value buy ever. Great places to visit for nothing (except the small annual fee, of course).
And we plan to visit Harrogate on the way up just to a have a brew in Bettys Tea Room!
Yeah Malham's been featured on TV and in film loads of times. The most recent high profile film appearance is during Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (can't remember if it's part one or two though).
Fountain's Abbey and Studley Royal are worth a trip too.

If nature's your thing try a drive to Aysgarth Falls, absolutely beautiful, you'll recognise the place from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, they also shot at Hardraw Force (biggest fall drop in England) but I never got to go there.

You see, no-one's got a bad word to say about me ( or should that be good word?)
I'm in love with the Dales!!!!!!
Travelled up on Sunday and had afternoon tea at Bettys and a quick walk round Harrogate. What a dump of a town.
On Monday we did a 100mile loop of the park taking in Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw Falls,
Ribblehead Viaduct and Malham Cove (via Ingleton after missing the turn off!).
The next day we did Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Brimham Rocks and Stump Cross Caverns.
I also took my running gear and did a session along the River Wharfe which was fun.
I even had clearance to go and watch Barnsley play at Burnley on the Tuesday evening. But, I thought better of it seeing as it was Valentines day  ( and they lost :()
All in all though, we had a fantastic few days away and I would recommend it to anyone. The scenery is quite stunning. I'm a sucker for high peaks, waterfalls and mountain streams.
Highlights were Malham, Fountains and Brimham.
P.S just joking Andy!

You're banned
(Not just from here, but Harrogate too!)
Fountains and Brimham are two of my favourite places in North Yorkshire. Fountains was a possible wedding venue for us for a while, but they refused to ut a roof on it, so it was ruled out :))
Glad you had a good time!

How odd. There is a new series by Adrian Edmonson on ITV called the Dales.
During the opening credits he ambles along the River Wharfe and points towards Bradford and says I was born 25 miles that way.
The camera man could almost have been in our hotel bedroom!!
That was the view we woke up to each morning.
Uncanny.

Fountains Abbey is a stunning journey into history. I loved it when I visited there 15 months ago when it was covered in snow and the water was all iced over.
