View Full Version : Prefer more Piano or Guitar on a Meat record?
Simple question that could end up getting a verity of responses:
Do you prefer more Piano or Guitar when it comes to Meat tunes?
(no both option as itd kill the poll cause i know most of us, including me, would pick it. its more interesting if you can narrow a preference)
as for me: Piano. I prefer the sound and accompaniment a piano does to meats voice in a given song. Every song on Bat 1 and Bat 2 a piano is clearly heard sans Revved up, Lemon, and Everything Louder.

Heaven Can Wait, Objects and For Crying Out Loud were the three songs that inspired me to become a musician myself. I remember hearing those songs, and thinking, "One day, I want to be able to do that myself."
The classic Meat Loaf piano > guitars any day for me.

Piano. I find it can bring so much to a song. I mean Anything for Love's intro has to be one of the most famous in the world and I'll never forget the reaction when Justin started playing it, when I saw Meat Last year.
I also love how it seems to echo in Another Day.
Not to mention Objects and For Crying out Loud. I still find the way Steinman played Objects on Live Around the World bone chilling!
So for me a piano.

i do enjoy a nice bit of piano :D
I love guitars (especially electric ones) but in this case I vote for piano. Just listened to some old Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen stuff and noticed how much it can add to a rock song. The most interesting thing about one of Meat Loaf's recent songs, All Of Me, is the piano, in my opinion. Without it, I probably would rarely listen to it.
Piano.
Guitars are a given, but the addition of a decent well played piano part takes a song to another level.

Piano, for exactly the same reason as above.

I like guitars if they are played in a unique way, rather than the run of the mill stuff that doesn't really stand out. HCTB had some unique guitar playing which I found combined with the drumming really drove home the album as a heavy rocker. HIAH is without the same impactful guitar playing but has made a better use of the piano, IMO.
I would never choose one over the other though, so I have declined to vote.

Me too. Both are superb. Take either away and you impoverish the whole .. I don't see why it has to be an either/or, and for me it isn't.

Me too. I think there should be a good balance of everything- guitar, piano, drums, bass. I don't think one instrument should be featured over the other.

well then you'd have a wall of noise.
every meat song features a main instrument.

Caryl didn't say an even balance, she said a good balance, so I don't believe there would be a wall of noise. Your poll didn't specify whether you ment per song, or across the board with all of his work.
Personally if it was across the board with all of his work I too would like a good balance of both, but if it were for each individual song I would have to say guitar.
