I don't want to be the harbinger of bad news but it's probably best to phone your record stores before making a special journey to buy the re-edited single on Monday. I checked with my local retailers and none of them have it on their catalogue for the 14th July or even during the next 3 weeks. Just to be sure this wasn't a local hiccup I phoned both the Virgin Megastore and HMV on Oxford Street and they don't know anything about it either.

I asked Mercury for the latest info yesterday but haven't received a reply yet. If by any chance it is released on Monday it's going to be a horrible case of deja vu. Maybe Mercury have either shelved it or the release date has been extended.

I do hope it is out on Monday because if it ain,t and it is shelved, Meat should find himself another record company, instead of the clowns at Mercury. All I say is ' Come on mercury, get your fingers out of your ar**s and get CHSIB on the shelves' thew I feel a bit better now. :)

I just find it hard to understand why they haven't got their act together this time :x :x

I wonder how he feels about it all.

I was in HMV on Oxford Street today and they haven't a clear answer. They only know that it is due to be re-released.

Right now, I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury and not in a good way

I've come back to this because although I'm still annoyed it really is no surprise. Since details of the release date of 14/7 were muted on other threads I have been regularly checking with local HMV & independents and they have no information.

It is my understanding that this release date was on a promotional disc sent to radio stations! A few of which ended up on Ebay. (well they got played a lot didn't they! )
Apart from PITP and the TV appearances, which are Meat yet again working his butt off!, i have seen no other promotional activities. I understand the advert was shown a couple of times during PITP, but haven't heard of it since.
The only direct promotion in newspapers appears to be adverts for the concerts, not the album. All the recent newspaper write ups have been a direct consequence of an appearance by Meat rather than an organised promotional piece.
Have you all heard the saying "the best recommendation is the word of mouth"?
Well looks like its up to Meat and us to get him played, talked about, and albums sold. The old UK thread and new US promo thread have lots of great ideas. Request current tracks, request classic tracks, share your experiences, feelings & thoughts. Send short stories or poems into local papers or weekly magazines. Anything that’s newsworthy and involves Meat lets tell the world.
 I may just ring a newspaper and claim to be his love child :!: that should get the front page
N.B.Fireball and anyone who's about to tell me off the last bit is a JOKE.

I can't believe this is happening again!!!!

Am ashamed to say, i didn't realise that CHSIB was being rereleased tomorrow - my only defence is that this must have been decided while i was away...

But i shall toddle off down to my local stores tomorrow and see what they have, if anything...

Sadly it doesn't seem it will be, although 14th July is the release date that appears on the promo copies that were sent out to radio stations. There has also been absolutely no sign of Mercury's promised advertising campaign in support of the re-release even though Meat has been back in the UK working his butt off and picking up some excellent reviews along the way. :(

On the positive side, Meat's recent UK appearances seem to be moving the album back up the charts and the PITP highlights are being shown on Channel 5 today and also on VH1. Meat is on the VH1 list of PITP highlights and hopefully he will also be included on Channel 5's coverage.

I should call your local record stores first Heat before you make a special journey.

My only observation would be that if stores are unaware of a new re-release that would be consistent with the email I received from Mercury in which the Product Manager wrote:
... next commercial release will be November .... as for now we're re-servicing "Couldn't have said it better" to radio & TV and the existing single is still available to order.

It seems to me that the edition sent to radio stations may be merely a disc which gives them a greater varety of length edits to play. On this disc it doesn't make it clear whether the 14 April "release date" is for these edits to be used, or for some new edition CD to be released in shops.

I certainly have had nothing in writing from Mercury which spells out clearly that a new version of CHSIB is to be released. Time I guess will tell.

I poped into Virgin Megastore and HMV yesterday while I was in town to make sure they would have the single in stock.
I hate to report that neither shop knew anything about it  .
I told them that it WAS being released on Monday, and to tell the guy who orders the singles for them.
Sadly I think this is going to be a big let down again :( .It was always going to be difficult getting this single up the charts.A lot of people who want the single will already have it from the last fiasco. The only people who will buy it again for the new edits are the die hard fans.
I really don't understand this :? .One minute Mercury are asking the fans opinion so they can make a really succesful single, then they don't get the single out to the stores,or even tell them a re release is happening 8O .
If it ain't on the shelves in quantity,it ain't gonna sell in quantity.
The fans have tried real hard to get this a decent chart position.I only wish Mercury would attack this with the same enthusiasm.

I hope to god i'm proved wrong tomorrow  .

Mouse, an email from mercuary was copied onto one of the threads and it stated that the fans opinions etc fro the survey would be used for a new single release(different track from album, but not Testify) and it would be(I think november time) In the meantime they were looking to re-service CHSIB.

Even so, they are either gonna do or not and like you say it would be a great help if we knew what was going on :? It could be like already said tat they are just getting radio stations to play it more and hope it takles off again. But relying on current stocks, the album is still in my locals shops.

What are supplies like in other areas???

Looking at the promo information on the new edit copies of the "CHSIB" single distributed to radio stations it appears clear enough that a 14th July re-release date was originally intended:

Following his recent Top 10 GOLD album of the same name & sales of 50 million albums including the 5th biggest selling album of all time, Mercury Records will make this brand new edit available to coincide with the great man's UK visit in early July. Meat Loaf will then return again for a full UK Arena tour in November - already 150,000 tickets sold! Produced by Peter Mokran (Backstreet Boys, Flaming Lips, R. Kelly etc.).

NEW DATE: 14 JULY

Unfortunately this would now certainly not seem to be happening which looks like another missed opportunity with all the media and TV attention Meat is receiving in the UK right now.

I do know what's on the Promo only copy sent to radio stations. All I was saying is that from this, which is intended for promotional use only, it is not clear whether the date refers to when the edits should be played. Nowhere does it say a new edit will be available in stores, just that this brand new edit will be available .. but to whom I wonder?

And as another moderator has pointed out in relation to PITP, it's important to be absolutely clear before we start complaining.

But if anyone has something clear in writing from Mercury about what will be on a new CD and a release date then we can be sure

Diane
13 Jul 2003, 21:36
It's always been my understanding, rightly or wrongly, that when a single is distributed to radio stations it is intended for immediate exposure and not just to decorate the studio. Since the radio stations have now had the new edit in their hands, according to Mercury, for several weeks I can't believe that the 14th July date refers to when they can start playing it on air. On past promo copies when dates have been printed these have always referred to the commercial release date.

If the fans were kept better informed it would alleviate all the confusion.

I totally agree than the lack of information or indeed worse part information is not only confusing but also disheartening to fans who not only want the best for Meat but to also do their best for him.
I have been looking back through this and the other "relaunch thread".

I've just received word from Mercury that "Testify" will not now be the new single. Instead CHSIB (the single) has been relaunched. It has been sent out to radio stations and an advertising campaign is about to begin.
Will keep everyone posted as I receive more news.

Discussions are currently going on with Mercury about an advertising campaign for "CHSIB". Let's hold our horses until we find out from them just how they want us to lend our support and we have had a chance to tender our suggestions.

I know from previous communications regarding tour dates being advised timeously that Management co. is not always forthcoming with information for the fan club. This is extremely frustrating to all, and it would now appear the lack of info continues in other areas. But from the above there has obviously been some dialogue.
Is the dialogue still open with Mercury? Can they be approached for clarification on behalf of fans? If they could be asked officially this may be better than several approaches from individual fans.
Just my thoughts how do others feel?
Personally I don't think this lack of communication and information is good for Meat Loaf and as a long standing fan it does little to make me feel valued.

The lack of information is extremely frustrating for all Meat's fans. I will contact Mercury again and hopefully will be able to let everyone know just what the latest situation is regarding any future singles.

We have enormous faith in the brilliant album that Meat has graced us with and would enjoy absolutely nothing better than to see Meat achieve the success the album and singles taken from it so richly deserve. Nothing would delight us more.

I appreciate your comments Cerysmeatloaf regarding the leaflets. Approaches were made regarding this idea a long while back.

Thank you Diane, I personally feel that an approach from established contacts, on behalf of the mulitude of fans will achieve the best results at the moment.
Hopefully they will realise that we are taking a keen interest in the developments and as you say want the very best achievable for Meat Loaf.

As to the first point I honestly wouldn't know, which is why I say the picture is unclear, to me at least. As to the second, better it's decorating the studio than being offered for sale on eBay :( At least it would be IN the studio!
