hahahah. You're funny when you're huffy. But I'm sorry you're going through this!! Oh, look what was just playing, "...learned the hard way that life ain't fair. It's times like these you gasp for air."
Don't you love it when your song's lyrics get tossed to you! lol. It really was playing as I was reading your post. Just seem so apropos.
$600,000! I read that again today, only it went up to 641K and they made a point of saying that was for the US conversion, I guess they figured us Americans couldn't do the math... Oh my! What's one to do with the media...
We will post your apology (if you want), just give us the go-ahead and we'll blast it out of the universe!

Meat,
you have only got 1 more show left, sorry keep strong, I can put my life on it that this won't travel around with you when you leave Australia and NZ, People over there will have fogot about next week, just wait until and another artist lands in australia and performs, they will get the same treatment!
As for them blasting you about the apology, there stupid, have they ever spoke to you in person whilst you was AFL? If they did, they would know how down to earth you are, and how passionate you are about your music!
Anyways, Keep strong, only one more show, you can't let these critics get to you for future appearences, i've followed you for 20 years, im 22, and i've seen play loads, and the last few years have been your best, 2 off your best albums, and 2 years touring where vocally you've been as good as i can remember!

Is it a good idea for UK and USA fans to do this? What's happened in Nz and Aus might be better staying there and it will for the casual Meat Loaf fan. If people in Uk and USA start to read all about the AFL experience it it may influence your next tours and people's opinion of it before it starts.

Says it perfectly. We know that, as would anyone who meets you or who knows anything at all about you.
I also agree this will not follow you, and however infuriating and distressing it has been, you and your integrity are known and respected around the world; and in Australia save by a few jackasses who don't know you at all.
You know I am always ready to help support you in any way I can. I also remember your wise advice to me "You can't let these people get you down. You have to ignore them". You can lead a jackass to water .. but they're so stubborn they wouldn't drink if they were dying of thirst!
Few people outside Australia know what the AFL is, even less care I suspect. You gave a great show two days ago, you'll give one more great show as a triumphant conclusion to this short tour. Personally I'd like to push a positive message round the internet about how marvellous your shows have been, your new album is, and what great things we're looking forward to :-) Leave the stupid, albeit cruel, wicked, ignorant and in many aspects libellous comments of one group of people in your dust where they belong.
Get home, get on, and keep demonstrating what we all know to be the truth. You are an honest, professional, decent and hugely talented performer who is loved, honoured and respected around the world. :D

Good idea, maybe we can put out some kind of thing at the time of the worldwide release. Sort of blitz the internet everywhere we can. If Meat does a video for All Of Me we can use the link for that and post it everywhere, provided we get permission of course. Be good to try and do some fan promo again as well as what Meat and the record company do. If there was say the video on Meatloaf.net front page or even here, we could just say to people hey check this out!

I'm not sure why you want to pour fuel on the fire or salt in the would...Whatever way you want to think about it. However, I understand you wanting to defend your honor. Hell, I have been defending you for the last 26 years and will continue to do same.
I will do whatever you want me to. I just want your hurt to go away.
Who cares what the AFL thinks of you and why bring attention to the US through Twitter and FB? The only people in the states that know you had a less than perfect show were fans and we will love you till the end. Trolls will always be out, some people are just born evil (Thomas Hobbs). I, for one, am guilty of "feeding them." Nonetheless, I am done with that. It's exhausting and it only breeds anger. The world already has enough of that.
In just a few days, my beloved, you will be home where you are loved. Debra can take care you you and you can rest. You will be able to heal, both physically and mentally. Take your time, you are certainly worth the wait and I think you'll agree, were are too. Luv you bunches!!
As I said on another thread, I think the apology was a bold move but... I'm sorry, I'm fed up with the tiresome discussion of the AFL thing that has spoiled many threads on this forum. I have the feeling that there are more endless laments about one unfortunate event and its aftermath than talk about the new album and recent shows. This has been dragging on for a whole month now. :roll:

The afl have posted saying "meat loaf was absolutely terrible".
That is a highly unprofessional statement. It is rude, and worst of all it is NOT THE TRUTH.
Parts of the show were good, parts of the show were not good. There were reasons for that - Meat was rushed for time, he couldn't hear, he had bad vibes all around the entire performance including no live band. for ~~~~ sakes, Meat deserves to give them a real jab back in their direction defending himself and his performance!!!!
I never said he didn't deserve to defend himself & set the record straight, I am just worried that too much time may have passed now
I have also said, that whatever he decides, I will support 100%

What a stupid sweeping statement to make. They haven't even bothered to say anything further to back it up. And have you noticed they haven't answered any of the accusations about lack of time to prepare, not being able to hear anything, and not being allowed a live band? That they haven't denied any of this speaks volumes. Ignorant barstards.

AFL (Aussie Rules) was formerly known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), which was known as VFA before that (Victorian Football Association). It was renamed the Australian Football League due to the VFL's governing body's decision to market the competition as an officially national league in 1990. VFA was founded in 1877, however games were first played as early as 1850s.
How's that for a shitting contest?

I know, its ~~~~ing pathetic! I really hope Meat evens out the playing field. He's honest and really humble, and yes he was pissed off during that interview, but he can show the world that he is a bigger, better person than those who run the AFL by writing the apology and hopefully clarifying some stuff in honesty. We all know he wanted that show to be perfect and the AFL did so many things that were counterproductive to that...

I'll post it.
I think it's important to stand up for what you believe, Meat. One voice can make a difference. Many can change the world.
I never said he didn't deserve to defend himself & set the record straight, I am just worried that too much time may have passed now
I think this is the point, and for us to keep getting worked up every time someone posts another inflammatory comment made somewhere on the internet, whilst it's understandable, isn't imo particularly helpful .. and as Sarge said is tending to overshadow so much that's really positive and exciting for Meat fans currently. I had no idea that AFL had made any comment again. I'm just enjoying the rave reviews from fans who have attended the concerts, and look forward to seeing those from fans who will attend the concluding one.
If the cyber-bullies get stirred up into action again, will all Meat's fans be able to keep off the keyboard? I'd like to think so, but for some it doesn't seem that easy to manage, and like you I just don't want to see Meat being harassed yet again by a relatively small group of ignorant bullies, who I think are as much out to get their kicks through getting a rise out of those who follow, love and respect him as they are trying to get at him.
If Meat asks me to post a simple statement from him of course I will. But I will ignore any responses that aren't supportive, any designed to hook me into a defensive retort, and I won't go looking for them. I still don't think this whole brou haha is something that people are generally aware of outside Australia and Meat's more committed on-line fanbase.
So whilst I do understand that establishing the truth is important to a man of honour, I believe that internationally Meat's honour is as high as it ever was, and that the honourable around the world who have witnessed this will deplore the abusive mitherings of the small group with no honour at all who have been responsible.
Caryl

I'm inclined to agree with Chris on this one.
The AFL thing has been pretty awful for everyone concerned but it's one of those things that'll be forgotten as soon as it started. To me it seems a bit like "that" Newcastle show to be honest - at the time it was just the worst thing ever, it was all over the internet, in the local newspapers, tv, radio, it probably got Meat more bad press than the AFL thing has. But people forgot about it, bought tickets to the Casa De Carne shows and packed out Newcastle in 2010.
I know it seems pretty hideous now but I'd be inclined just to leave it be.
I'll help you all I can Meat!
Your true fans know what you mean and we believe in you!

Count me in.
Edited to add:
It's easy to say nasty things on the Internet & pile on. Ignore it - it's hard, but ignore it. The AFL are chickens, not strong enough to say their piece.
As for the Internet, 99% of the folks wouldn't say this to your face or in any place where they would have to be accountable for their actions. They don't count.
I know it seems pretty hideous now but I'd be inclined just to leave it be.
I agree, and in his head rather than his feelings I'm sure Meat will see this too. Hard to weather this, hard to ignore, but better left until he's home, gets some distance and works with his management team to take any action he feels is needed.
Meanwhile rock the socks off Tuaranga, and finish what he came to do with the delighted fans he came to see.

i agree with Caryl that it should be left until he gets home and his management comes up with a plan to deal with it professionally and finally.
However, I do not agree it should be left "as-is".
This is not about ego or reputation. It is about setting the story straight. Meat did not "show up, and couldn't sing". He could sing fine thanks. The AFL did several things to cause Meat Loaf's performance to be surely weak - they gave him an unrealistic time frame to perform his hits, no band for the first time in 45 years, and they did not have adequate equipment. A technical failure that Meat had no control over.
You can't take someone who is in their 60's, used to a certain way of doing things, and throw them off like that and expect it to turn out well. Now they are reaming him out because of their own stupid restrictions on his performance?
~~~~ing get real!
stretch37
31 Oct 2011, 21:02
When Meat first told us of the restrictions, I had a really bad feeling about their expectations of him. I wanted to say you should pull out of it or make them change the restrictions, but I kept my mouth shut. It sucks because this is the first generation where we have hard core rockers into their late 60's and we don't know how to treat them. We expect that if they are "professionals", then they should be able to do anything!! Including working way out of their comfort zone, Eg. Performing hits faster and harder than they are used to in an environment that is foreign to them (no live band, bad monitor setup). We expect them to act like they are 30 years old.
People, Meat Loaf still rocks my goddamn socks off, and it is because he is a LEGACY ACT. He's been around since my parents were little kids! So the AFL should have given him the respect and dignity of ensuring a dignified performance so it would result positively in both the AFL and Meat. They decided to ignore all these facts and just said "HEY YOUR A PRO. YOU BETTER JUST DEAL BRO".
Well they made the wrong choice in my eyes.
Thoughts?
The problem is though, we know too much! We're all Meat fans (and therefore on his side) and we've had him here telling his side of the story - it's all very well spending time and efforting putting the story straight (and believe me I'm all for that, I'm terrible for just letting things go) but in reality no-one "outside" is going to care! The Australia and New Zealand shows are done already, tickets sold, t-shirts bought...ok so a few people might read it and think a bit better of him, but is it honestly worth the stress levels? I really don't think it is.
I know it's not as easy as just letting it go - I'm probably the worst person in the world for doing that - but I think for the greater good it would be the best thing to do, I just don't think the end result is worth what it'll take getting there.
I so agree with all this. Time for us all to stand back and get some distance I think. Meat thrilled the people he went to see. He has one more show to deliver in his unique style. Sometimes things are better left until they've cooled down. I don't think anything that has happened has damaged Meat's reputation as an ace performer and an honourable man as far as the world is concerned. Setting records straight, if indeed it needs to be done, is best done after all this is done and the feelings and stress left behind.
Parts of the show were good, parts of the show were not good. There were reasons for that - Meat was rushed for time, he couldn't hear, he had bad vibes all around the entire performance including no live band. for ~~~~ sakes, Meat deserves to give them a real jab back in their direction defending himself and his performance!!!!
Couldn't have said it better myself mate! It goes to show what hypocrites the AFL mob are!!!
I never said he didn't deserve to defend himself & set the record straight, I am just worried that too much time may have passed now
I have also said, that whatever he decides, I will support 100%
I agree with you Melon. I think enough time has passed that the issue should be dropped maybe, or something to that degree. But Meat needs to set some things straight with them to keep his own heart and mind at ease.
I support whatever he decides to do and will always do so :-)
AFL??? Tell those clowns down there that the REAL AFL was the "American Football League". It was founded in 1960 and merged with NFL in 1970, becoming the AFC.
Ha ha, couldn't agree more :-) It is a horrid Australian game. I'd rather American Football if I had to choose between the two.
But the clowns need to be set straight in some way, shape of form! :-)
AFL (Aussie Rules) was formerly known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), which was known as VFA before that (Victorian Football Association). It was renamed the Australian Football League due to the VFL's governing body's decision to market the competition as an officially national league in 1990. VFA was founded in 1877, however games were first played as early as 1850s.
How's that for a shitting contest?
Not bad Melon :-) I'd rather the National Rugby League :-) Anyway, let's just see what Meat does and says from here :-)
They also have not addressed the $600,000.... the least they could have done would have been to clarify that!!!
If Meat decides to let the issue go....then I support it. If Meat still wants us to post his apology on whatever social media we have....then I support it. I'm just going to be on standby until Meat's further notice.
absolutely.
I love him to bits, and support him all I can, but honestly? I hope this gets parked. I don't want to do anything to get it all started again. If anything needs to be done it needs imo to be managed from home, very carefully and professionally. That's my take.
I think this is the point, and for us to keep getting worked up every time someone posts another inflammatory comment made somewhere on the internet, whilst it's understandable, isn't imo particularly helpful .. and as Sarge said is tending to overshadow so much that's really positive and exciting for Meat fans currently. I had no idea that AFL had made any comment again. I'm just enjoying the rave reviews from fans who have attended the concerts, and look forward to seeing those from fans who will attend the concluding one.
If the cyber-bullies get stirred up into action again, will all Meat's fans be able to keep off the keyboard? I'd like to think so, but for some it doesn't seem that easy to manage, and like you I just don't want to see Meat being harassed yet again by a relatively small group of ignorant bullies, who I think are as much out to get their kicks through getting a rise out of those who follow, love and respect him as they are trying to get at him.
If Meat asks me to post a simple statement from him of course I will. But I will ignore any responses that aren't supportive, any designed to hook me into a defensive retort, and I won't go looking for them. I still don't think this whole brou haha is something that people are generally aware of outside Australia and Meat's more committed on-line fanbase.
So whilst I do understand that establishing the truth is important to a man of honour, I believe that internationally Meat's honour is as high as it ever was, and that the honourable around the world who have witnessed this will deplore the abusive mitherings of the small group with no honour at all who have been responsible.
Caryl
I couldn't agree more Caryl. The more we respond to irritating comments the more worked up we get and at the end of the day it really doesn't help you or anyone at all. Instead, follow the rave reviews about Meat's concerts, they are the sorts of things to pick you up and help you forget about the fiasco at the AFL. :-)
As for the trolls, well we all like to bite, but from experience, DON'T!!!!! Sit on your hands or get away from the computer or phone. When we feed them they get more repulsive and look not only to hurt Meat bad but to also take a personal assault on yourself:( And believe me you don't want that!! So let the little blighters play, and once they realize that no one wants to play then they'll run off and play with someone else. :-)
Same here Suzie.
I truly sympathize with Meat. And I can only imagine how upset he is, especially since, unfortunately, he cannot go home as early as he originally expected :(
IMHO it's not my place to try to give him any advice on this matter .... that's for his management, personal assistant, and perhaps Deborah to do. I'm just here to support him in any way I can, whether it means posting his statement or not, whatever he decides.
Having said that, part of me hopes that he really takes the time to think it through before he possibly says or does something that he'll regret later on.
I can understand Meat wanting to set the record straight. I don't think he wants to be remembered for saying those things the way that video was edited. They cut it and edited it to make him look like he was saying things he was not. The video was misinterpreted and misconstrued.
Yeah I can see why it may be best to focus on the positive stuff going on, and just let this lay to rest.
But I think Meat needs to set the record straight first, endure a few days of shitstorm, and then let it lay to rest on his terms, the story told straight, the truth out, and then focus majorly on all the wonderful things happening in his career right now.
I'm going to support whatever Meat decides, because he knows best.
I agree with you. I think Meat needs to go out there, give the best show he can give today and then think again about this when he gets home. The last thing I want to see happen is for him to do this and all those people who were criticising him come back to have another go at him. There's only so much of that a person can take and he's already had to deal with so much already.
Saying that though I will respect whatever Meat decides to do and will give him my support.
As I have just been away for a family holiday with no internet I was VERY surprised to find upon my return everyone still talking about the AFL thing.
I know I am adding my two little pennies to the debate ( and they will be my final coins) but it REALLY should be left.
ALL AFL threads should be closed!!
And if someone has the balls then ban Meat from talking about it on this site anymore.
And if he does carry on his penalty is to give us a MLUKFC fans only gig!!!!!
As far as I am concerned, Meat asked for something, he gets it. I'm sure he's thought this through and I think it will show a very united fan base that stands behind Meat. To the best of my knowledge, Meat rarely asks his fans for anything.
I think that the least we can do is support this one request, no questions asked and no debate.
Respectfully I disagree, if Meat came on here and requested that we all go play on the motorway to show how pi$$ed off we all are would you do it?! I personally don't think it's right to do something just because of who asked for that thing to be done.
I agree Lucy, much as we all love the man you can't be like a disciple. You have to have your own thoughts and opinions too.
"and on the seventh day Meat said go forth and multiple"
But in all seriousness, the concert in Tauranga should be nearly done, then its only a matter of time before Meat will be home and be able to make his final decision.
I hope he is happy with whatever he chooses, and whatever happens after that.
Things could have been worse (or better?); Meat could easily have NOT been invited to perform by the AFL. Calling them ignorant ~~~~~~~s at this stage won't get you anywhere in my opinion.
There's a difference between a humble apology and trying to shove an apology down one's throat and telling them I was right all along and here is my gang all going to whack you if you don't listen.
Respectfully I disagree, if Meat came on here and requested that we all go play on the motorway to show how pi$$ed off we all are would you do it?! I personally don't think it's right to do something just because of who asked for that thing to be done.
Extreme ;) .. but makes the point. Just as if he asked me to push him off a bridge because he wanted to show us he could fly, I'd decline ;)
Yes. of course it's Meat's decision to make. But he is open to constructive feedback on his music and shows. I never tell him what I think he'd be better doing in a recording because I have no useful experience, knowledge or expertise in that area. Others, who presumably have, feel it's OK to do that. to question it here. I do have some experience in PR so I feel it's perfectly OK to raise any concerns I have constructively and courteously, which I've done.
Passing positives on virally via the internet isn't easy imo, the net prefers negatives. Case in point. Meat a few days ago said he wanted to spread the word about his favourite charity The Painted Turtle and endorsed our website as a means of doing this. Wonderful for him to do, and we got over 1000 hits in 24 hours. His thread attracted nearly 800 "likes" and 80 comments. We raised extra money that week simply because of his message, and I hope he can find time to do it again, because it helps us tremendously in reaching his wider fan base, which in turn directly helps The Painted Turtle. Brilliant Meat, thank you :D
But in terms of passing it on and spreading it round the internet? 38 people. Yet this is something wholly good surely, altruistic, no personal axe to grind. Just a simple request to spread the word about a wonderful charity that helps sick children and a site that raises money for them by passing them all its profits. It's simply not easy to harness internet support in passing on positives imo. We ask fans every day to pass on our message to their friends to spread the word, but few take the time to do it.
And for anyone, no matter how I cared for them, if they asked me to do something that I had any doubt would achieve the effect they wanted, or concerns that the possible disadvantages might outweigh the benefits, I wouldn't be much of a friend if I just went ahead blindly and without at least raising my concerns. In my book anyway.
Caryl
I am going in a few days ask to put my apology to the AFL up on your face book ,twitter , what ever you got. They sent the AFL the apology and I got blasted by them. I'm adding another comment to add to the other so please wait . It will be done by the end of the week , so just hold off. So way to go Meat! I think your in the process of making some new fans!
PS Don't get me wrong, I love HCTB just as much as HIAHB, but its much less easy to listen to when your having a house party than HIAHB.
