Holy crap...so we're looking at having albums in 3 consecutive years and another on the way. :D Our man's working overtime. For some reason I've always thought a ML Christmas album would come sooner or later. Looking forward to it!

I'm not normally a fan of artists doing Christmas albums since I tend to think of them as being a bit naff but it'll be interesting to see what Meat's will be like.

Surely Mr Steinman must have a couple of Christmas songs up his sleeve for Mr Loaf to use on his Christmas album.:D Read Em & Feast, Took The Turkey (Right out of my mouth).:-)

I, for one, am not convinced this will end well. Christmas albums have a way of being completely superfluous additions to an artist's discography.

Yes, of course it's too soon to say, but still, to me, Christmas albums are a sign of musical irrelevance.

Usually, artist who release Christmas albums are at a point in their career that, apart from their core fan base, they might as well never produce anything new at all. I mean, sure, Bob Dylan and Sting have released Christmas albums, Carole King is about to, but—apart from their core audience—who really needs any new music by them? They can cruise along on their old stuff, and everybody's happy.

At least, that's how I see it.

Now, where did I leave my flame shield? ;-)

I'm fairly certain it was rumoured around the time of VBO that he'd be doing an christmas album...it's one of those things that will either be welcomed with open arms or panned...either way HIAHB is the next thing to look forward to.

Christmas songs are very hit and miss. If it's brilliant, it will last for decades, because people will always associate it with Christmas. If not, it'll never see the light of day again.

I'm very interested to see if he can pull this off. It will be a new challenge for him there's no doubt about that.

but it will sell shit loads!!!!:D

And year after year.

I, for one, am not convinced this will end well. Christmas albums have a way of being completely superfluous additions to an artist's discography.

It won't be superfluous for the people who enjoy it. I like Christmas music, I like Meat Loaf's voice, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this. Superfluous in what way exactly? Sure, it's not likely to make a grand artistic statement, but I expect it to be enjoyable. I don't see any reason not to try. If you don't like it, disregard it - there's 2 upcoming 'normal' albums and another last year, so it's hardly like he's making this instead of the usual rock music.

By the way, Spector's, Elvis', Sinatra's and Nat King Cole's Christmas music is some of the most beloved and enduring in their entire catalogs.

Carole King is about to

Carole King??? Damn, I'm devasted. Wish she'd do another Tapestry instead but then again I doubt a gem like that would sell well today. Why do talented artists who were once outstanding and unique have to do that? No new ideas? What has become of rock and roll? Where's the innovation... or revolution? I've never bought a pop/rock singers holiday album and I never will. One or two Christmas songs - fine, but a whole album that's tied to a particular (short) season? I favor Mahalia Jackson on old crackling vinyl over any of these new Christmas pop CDs. As for the guy this site is dedicated to: I'm not planning to buy any of his upcoming albums but if he manages to create something that's cooler than the The Pogues' Fairytale Of New York or Robert Earl Keen's Merry Christmas From The Family, I'll maybe gladly be willing to disagree with evil nickname's statement regarding "musical irrelevance".

Bragged on Facebook and have to brag here.

I've been saying forever that Meat and Reba should do a collaboration. The greatest voice in Rock and the greatest female voice in Country together. Perfect!

Superfluous in what way exactly?

Hang on, I'll tie it together with this:

By the way, Spector's, Elvis', Sinatra's and Nat King Cole's Christmas music is some of the most beloved and enduring in their entire catalogs.

Yes, they set the standard. Fifty years ago. How many recent christmas albums with a similar impact are there?

In what way can you make an artistic statement with a christmas album nowadays? There's no point in rehashing the standards again—they've been done to death. Unless you give 'em a twist, but then there's a big chance chance that you end up with a gimmick. Which might be entertaining for a while, but I don't see that having a lasting appeal.

Same thing with original songs. What's the use of writing songs that try to sound like christmas songs? Same goes for songs that are only lyrically related christmas. I don't get the point, but then again, to me christmas is little more than an excuse for extravagant cooking.

Meat Loaf is a twist in and of himself.

I have been waiting forever for a Christmas album worth buying. I'm soooooo looking forward to this! Now to convince Meat to do some Elvis style Gospel.

For those that know me, yes, I'm Agnostic but I love Christmas and Gospel music. (Statler Brothers anyone :D )

Can't wait! I hope Patti sings a holiday duet on the album too. Maybe she's not considered a "star" but she sings the best duets with Meat and takes such good care of him on stage. I'm really excited about Garth!

This is going to be fascinating - good Christmas music is as good as any other sort of music - I'm thinking in particular of Fairytale of New York. Should be full of humour, seasonal good cheer, and of course, sleigh bells, and I can't wait to hear it!

Well, maybe it`ll include a soundboard of "Run Run Rudolph" from christmas 1995:lurk: !?
A "tender little christmas lovesong" ;D

Though seriously, I've doubts how a christmas-album by Meat - or any rock/pop artists in general - is recieved in the "outside" world <hint>Bob Dylan</hint> Not that certain magazines/critics write rubbish crap which got NOTHING to do with reviews or the music at all anyway.

I don't think it's a sign of musical irrelevance. I think it is a sign that Meat cares about his fans and wants to make them happy. I have seen quite a few requests on facebook from fans wanting him to do a Christmas CD. I am really excited about it!!!

Thanks all. Just wanted to see if it was still planned. I love to seek out Christmas songs by artists you wouldn't necessarily expect. To have a whole album by Meat Loaf will be amazing but as you say if it is going to be his last album I can wait lol.
