View Full Version : Age of fans?

Joe

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what the age range of the fans that write on here was. I know that when i have been to Meat's concerts there are all ages from 10 to 60. Just wondered if that was the same on here?

Anyway Im 24 and from London.... how bout you? :)

I'm sure someone who's not as lazy as me will eventually point out the thread where this has already been discussed. But until then, I'm 15 (16 on the 14th of this month. Horrah for me!) and there are people as young as 12 here I believe. There are some older peeps as well. I forget the eldest. Someone's sure to post the thread though, so there we go. ^_^

Well,
actually as I remember from the last time this came up, Dottie is the most experienced of all here at life. I came in at second at 47, Jules is 46. Lordy, that sounds like we should be staying home and nursing our arthritis.

Heck with that, just got tickets tonight for our 4th concert of this tour. Woohoo, birthday party in Detroit...here we come!!! If Meat can keep on ROCKIN, we sure as hell can rock along with him.

And Dottie, we are relying on you to set a good example for these young whippersnappers! As you certainly did on GN, hope to see it here in the states sometime soon.

I think some of the great friends we have made here understand that age is no barrier to appreciating great music.

"Forever Young " just came on, that about sums it up,
T

Yes there was Tim (aged 24?),
I did a very unscientific compilation of ages on both threads. Sounds like I have WAY too much time on my hands, but...we are leaving tomorrow after work to see Fire Ball in WI on Fri. All is set, list made for tomorrow and I'm just in a Meaty mood, so I came here and did this exersize.

Results are *drum roll*-
under 20..7
20-29......16
30-39......5
40-49......6
50+........2

Keep in mind this is only the few who have the intestinal fortitude to post their age. I'm surprised 20somethings are so dominant. :o It's just great to see his wide appeal amongst different ages. Many "artists" are much more limited.

Maybe some older ones won't tell. I could care, I'm 47, will be 48 in Oct. If Meat can ROCK I can keep up, you bet your azz. Least I can do for all the years of joy he has given us!

On the road to nowhere soon... :D

Here we go, here we go.

Ok I'm done now.

Well I am the oldest Bat - 56 - and it seems the LAST to find ML!

Saw his biography March last year and was hooked! Luckily, found this board (which I have not fully worked out how to use yet - discovered Internet about the same time I guess) and thus discovered Meat was due to come to UK.

Saw him at Leeds and only 1 row back (standing) and at Liverpool (seated). :D :D :D

I was in heaven! AND I knew all the words to the songs! Meat turned me into a teenager again....But would love to have seen big, bouncing long haired sweaty Meat - what a turn-on! Must be big guys - my second husband is 18 stone. (My first one of 32 years was as thin as a rake - had 6 affairs then ran off with the 7th at 50 ) :( New hubby is a Bat too! Oh, and he's 49 which does not help swell the number of Bats who are in their 50's!

Think she still working on a bit more! Incidentally....ok......so I know they're not on this site, but I have friends who are also lifelong meat fans have have seen him in concert in the past, she is 42...and....wait for it......he is 51 !! WELL! I am still the eldest BAT at 56! Unless a challenger appears!

I thin we also have the YOUNGEST BAT in our family - my Grandson Benjamin who was 4 years old in April!

He comes in from nursery and wants "bat out of hell" on. No matter how often we tell him he's Meat Loaf, Benjamin calls him "bat out of hell!

His favourite video is "Bad Attitude". I bought him his own copy for his 4th birthday, but his dad (my son Brian, 33, also a BAT took it off him as Meat swears "F*** Y** on the video and Benjamin copied him)! Shame on daddy - he added it to HIS collection!

So there you are - the OLDEST BAT and the YOUNGEST BAT - unless you know different.....

 I've been teaching my nephew Connor (2 yrs old) the gospel according to Bat 8) .
It was funny because when he'd cry,John (my brother) would hold him and try and calm him down, then Annie (My sister in law) would try, then my mum would take him, then my dad would take him but he'd still be crying  .
I'd walk over, give him the Meat Loaf face and shout LIKE A BAT OUT OF HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL and he'd stop cryin straight away and grin  .
Connor also loves it when I headbang and play air guitar  .

I'm 22. I first became acquainted with Meat Loaf through The Rocky Horror Show. Then I remember seeing the VH1 movie "Meat Loaf To Hell And Back" and hearing the clips of songs they played as W. Earl Brown lip sang. I thougt they were the most bizarre songs I had ever heard before but I loved having that feeling. After buying "Bat" I immediately became hooked on the works of James Richard Steinman and after getting to know Jimmy pretty well through the years, now I know why I thought the "Bat" songs were so bizarre when I first heard them. "If you don't go over the top how are you supposed to see what's on the other side?" -Jim Steinman. On my list of the top male vocalists of all time Meat would be right up there along with Freddie Mercury, Luciano Pavirotti, Roy Orbison, and of course Elvis Presley. I love Meat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Evan - I also love Pavarotti and Roy Orbison.

I ran away from home to Londo at 16 as my mother used to beat the living daylights out of me! All I took were my Roy Orbison LP's. In 1970 I started writing to him and his new wife Barbara. This led to Roy Kelton Orbison 11 (Roy and Barbara's first son) staying with us for 2 days in 1990. Got it all on video, and lots of photo's.

Funnily enough, it was Meat who knocked Roy off my top spot - for a while - when I discovered Meat just last March! Now they are equal for different reasons and I love them both. And Andrea Bocelli and Medwyn Goodall (exceptional new-age musician).

Nice to see we Meat fans whatever our ages love other exceptional voices!

Heather.

15 Jul 2003, 21:58
Andrea Boccelli. Is he blind? Everytime I see him his eyes are closed. . .
But what a voice. . .
Morrissey tops my list of fav vocalists.

meatfan
15 Jul 2003, 22:14
Yes Eyeore - Andrea is blind. I have his autobiography. Saw him live at one of only two concerts in UK last year - MAGIC!

Roy Orbison, however, was NOT blind, although his eyesight was poor.

What a concert THAT would be - Andrea Bocelli, Roy Orbison and Meat Loaf! Roy and Meat would attract youngsters through to old BAT's like me.....

Yeah I can't believe I forgot Morrissey, "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and "Sing Your Life" are some of my favorite of his vocal performances. I love his new song "The First Of The Gang To Die" it's very catchy.

Chris
15 Jul 2003, 23:39
I also am a huge fan of Roy and Freddie.

Although, one of my favourite songs is from a musical. in We Will Rock You, the gang all stand around and say "We remember the ones who died young...."

They then list all the great but sadly missed stars such as Freddie, Janis Joplin, Buddy etc etc before singing Only The Good Die Young. The audience was nearly in tears when I went to see it.

Rob The Badger
16 Jul 2003, 09:52
Kirsty Macoll, Mercury, Lennon, Harrison, Hendrix. They all died too soon.

And Morrissey's best performance is (IMHO) on "I Know It's Over". And what a song.
He's also a lyrical genius. He's outwritten Steinman lyrically on a number of occasions.

Im 25, been into meat since i was 13/14 or so. Although i'm 25, i do usually tell people im 24, as that was a good year for me, so i'm sticking with it...

As for the youngest meat fans - i do believe that my twins are the youngest, at 9 months - correct me if im wrong though. :P They have always listened to meat - with a mother like me, they stood no chance  I was 4 months pregnant with them when i went to my first meat concert, last year, and they were born to BOOH, so they had a good start. They both love Objects - it quietens them down when they are grizzly...there has been many a night when i've thanked god for Meat, i can tell ya... :D

I'm not sure it's about intestinal fortitude .. more that it concerns those young enough to be seeking to acquire it and is not something those who have acquired it choose to dwell on :)

They say you're as old as the man you're feeling .. and I'm as old as the man I felt after his concert in Clearwater last December :) ... and it's nice to have range :))
