View Full Version : (It Hurts) Only When I Feel or If It Ain't Broke (Break It)?

Just curious :D Which of the two is better in your opinion and why?
Personally, I've loved Break It since I first heard it on Bat 3, AND it's been one of my live favorites too. I've heard really, REALLY bad audio of OWIF before, but I only recently heard the super-high-quality-audience-recording of Only When I Feel on Wario's new channel...and I'm not really sure which I prefer anymore. I voted for Only When I Feel...but it won by only a little :-) It may be a patchwork of a song, but that's what's so interesting about it :D

Break it, not as crazy about the live version of it, but it was one of the few songs that Mr Child got right on Bat III imo.
I've seen youtube vids of the Only when I feel version, i think it was an irish concert, and it doesn't really do anything for me

I don't think much to either really. Break It isn't one of Meat or Jim's better songs, and OWIF just seemed like two songs thrown together.

I think Break It works quite well live, but I agree that Only When I Feel always sounded like two songs crudely bolted together, whatever Meat tried; never sounded right to me.

I chose Only When I Feel cause thats how Jim originally wanted it.

It might interest you to know (or not) that Rob Evan in a recent interview claimed that Only When I Feel actually came first. Jim subsequently used the Break It part in Wuthering Heights, so even he must have known it wasn't good enough.

I actually like the very raw version of break it from that soundtrack...Mike Vogel does a good job. I never realised, until reading it on Wiki, just a minute ago, that Pat Thrall performed on that soundtrack.

I would like Only When I Feel if it was a song in its own right before it develops into Break It. I like the melody and think it would suit Meat well if it was to continue in the vein of the beginning. A slightly sinister pseudo-ballad. I'd like that.

At least some of us can...

i like only when i feel... possibly cause i haven't heard it much, possibly because the first time i heard it was live in 05, when it was introduced as new song for the new bat (im paraphrasing) possibly cause i like piano???
as is pointed out above, it sounds likes 2 songs stuck together... which is very true, but the same applies to at least one hang cool song ;)

 I love the way the two songs were mixed on the tour 8)
Should have used that arrangement for a B side.

I've always liked Mike Vogel's version of "Break It." It's short, to the point, with no frills. An untypical Steinman production.
Neither Meat's album version nor his live version do anything for me. I find the arrangement too busy, the horns make me go all like, WTF just happened there?, and it just goes on forever.
I also happen to like the "Only When I Feel" bit a lot. Secrets and dreams never seen in the light? You betcha.
So, ehm, that, really.

After listening to that video, i am very glad they did not release it as that combination because it would have been terrible.
whomever had the idea to make Break It more upbeat and less Raw on the album (thinking with the horns that it was more Desmond Child's idea) they got it spot on for Meat in my opinion

I like only when I feel (first time I've actually heard it) and I'm now going to have to buy that film
I prefer Break It as well.
