I don't think this poll has ever been done before. (Possibly with good reason!)

Dry Eye.

The same Did You Ever Love Somebody that is written by Marsha Malamet and Liz Vidal? I'm pretty sure I didn't forget it. :-P

Anyway. My answer is Not A Dry Eye. It's by far the best.

Is there a special prize for anyone voting Cry Over Me?

Sounds very fair.

who knows, maybe COM's Live arrangement maybe would have turned heads?

It was obviously arranged (look at in search of paradise during the Cry Over Me Montage, you'll see a brief few seconds of meat performing it).

It worked for Masculine.

I would go for Lie For You, but sometimes I think she gets a bit of stick on here, maybe just some of her songs don't sound suited to Meat. Her songs on WTTN were pretty decent. She is a talent in herself, and winning a Golden Globe recently says something:

Should I live with the lingering guilt forever, my choice goes to Cry Over Me. I know, I know.

That said, I do like Not A Dry Eye In The House and You're Right I Was Wrong.

At a push it's going to have to be; I'd lie for you but it's very hard for me to choose between the top three options

You're Right I was Wrong, for me. when that song came out, I was going through a rough time with my fiance, and it got me though, and got her back :)

'Not a Dry Eye.' Because 'Lie for You,' while being a decent song, isn't actually much of a duet, and I don't like any of the others. Most of 'em bore me to death, and those that don't I find pretty weak.

I only had to ponder for a brief minute... Not A Dry Eye In The House. And for a mid 90's music video; it really wasn't that bad at all.

'Favourite Diane Warren song recorded by Meat' - surely this is a contradiction in terms ?

Sorry to be negative, but Warren tries to write like Steinman but lacks the depth.

Personally I've more respect for HCTB, at least the writers on that album try to do something different and move on from the Steinman / Meat sound, I guess on the basis that you shouldn't try to mimic genius, which Warren tries to do but fails badly.

Just my opinion.:D

Not a dry eye in the house, unsaid isn't bad but overall i wouldn't go out of my way to listen to a Diane Warren song

I really like WTTN and think that the Diane Warren songs are very good. The first Meat song that I remember hearing/seeing was 'I'd Lie For You' with the epic video it had. In some ways 'I'd Lie For You' sounds like a clone of AFL, but it still has a special place in my heart and I always live in hope that Meat will perform it live again.

Those opening strums of the guitar still get my heckles up!

Had a hard time choosing between I'd Lie for you and Not a Dry Eye. Vote went to I'd Lie For You. It was a hard decision though! I do like them all.

In before someone mentions that "Why Isn't That Enough" wasn't written by Diane Warren. O, wait...

I initially voted for 'I'd Lie For You' - Without applying too much analysis, and purely off the top of my head.

But when I went away, I thought about this, and I questioned my choice. I thought to myself, why do I listen to Meat Loaf? Well, because he has been there my whole life. His songs are so epic and emotionally charged, no matter what situation I've been in during my life, good or bad, there has been a Meat song to capture my mood perfectly. He's been like a 'comfort blanket' I guess. A safe place to run to.

I did an experiment with my MP3 player on a long bus journey today. I played just the Diane Warren songs on shuffle, over and over. I found shockingly, the one I enjoyed most was none other than 'Cry Over Me' - I know exactly why. It fits perfectly with how I felt over a certain girl a certain number of years ago. I remember thinking this when Bat III was released.

So my point is this. When we say "What is the best Diane Warren song?" What do we mean? - The best technically? The most Steinmanesque? Or, the one we can relate to most?

'Cry Over Me' as a song is frequently rubbished on this forum, it's the butt of so many jokes. And indeed, I feel it has no place on a 'Bat' album if I'm honest. But the fact is that song 'gets me' - I relate to it totally.

At the end of the day, when I listen to Meat Loaf, it's for the raw emotion he pours into every song, the epicness of the songs, the fact I can put myself in the shoes of the character Meat is portraying - as if it's me singing the song.

I rarely post here. I have no time for internal politics on a 'fan forum' - But my I thought my 'Warren experiment' was worth sharing. I don't feel it's actually about which is the most Steinmanesque song, which is the most commercially viable/successful song. It's about which song truly grabs you. Which song can you relate to most.

I said Lie for You, although it's pretty close between that one and Dry Eye. However, I also like Cry Over Me very much, for the same reasons that TSR stated. I can (unfortunately) relate to it completely.

I'd Lie For You.. And the video to go with it. Superb.
