Very nice. Hopefully one day it surfaces in the quality it no doubt had before Youtube became involved.
Here's Rock And Roll Dreams from the same show:

Exactly. Maybe that's where they got the footage that they use in the HCTB tour video :??:

In the land of the pig is a great song, quite possibly the best one on Bat III, but the live performances of it never really came close.
I know Sir Loaf has subsequently said that that wasn't a great, or happy tour, and it does show on that video.

Possibly because (like with The Monster Is Loose) they were playing along to a video, so they couldn't deviate/improvise in any way.

yeah he doesn't look well in those vids alright. Regardless of anything else, the one thing you can say about the Hang Cool tour is that he looks happier and healthier

Its a cycle:
1977: Healthy, full of energy
1978: Unhealthy, still full of energy
1981-1982: Very Unhealthy, energy gone
1983: Healthier, energy getting back
1985 - 2002: Healthy (for the most part), full of energy
2003 - 2004: Unhealthy, still full of energy
2006 - 2007: Very Unhealthy, energy gone
2008: Healthier, energy getting back
2010-Current: Healthy (for the most part), full of energy
hopefully the Healthy full of energy phase will last for 17 years like last time :))

What about 2005? I disagree about 2006, RAH. In my opinion he looked and sounded excellent there, it was the subsequent tour that seemed to have wrecked him.

Royal Albert Hall production was excellent. He was on form. Ken Bruce was a bad one, but then again Meat wasn't enjoying the whole "Bat3" era - Got pushed too far by the management. Travelling alot and having little rest!
Whereas 2010/11 comes and Meat is enjoying himself. Has more control over what is happening. Full of Energy because of the record is so brilliant.. Its excellent...
I feel 2011 will be a good year for Meat and Co.

Indeed it was, I was shocked!!! It was recorded early in the morning I believe. And then we got the whole BAAB + album vocal fiasco. Unbelievable.

thats a typo, i meant 2005-2007. 2006 is a little tricky. i wasn't even thinking about RAH, but thats just one show. Ken Bruce, the new years show, and the today show were pretty mediocre (sans BAAB on new years turned out great)
of course that cycle patter has nothing to do with how he sounded. it was about the fun he was having and energy and health he had. RAH had some great atmosphere, but since recent revelations, I dunno if he really was having fun. But It was a great show from what ive heard. wish I was there.

If there's any "pattern" I think it's no more than most of us would have taken over a 30 year plus period ;) .. particularly if we put as much energy and effort into such a busy and sustained career as Meat.
Looking back over the whole Bat3 period Meat identifies many things that made it a bad experience for him overall, but that doesn't mean his health was poor throughout, nor that he lacked energy or had any fun imo.
He certainly appears much fitter now with his new fighting weight, but the work he undertook during the Bat3 promotion would have defeated many people! I saw him at the 3 day golf tournament in that summer .. At that point after recording the album, he'd been on the road promoting for 2 months solid. He was probably tired, who wouldn't be? But he was full of energy, good humour and great fun. He then continued on a heavy round of promotional activity right up to the RAH, which in itself must have put huge pressure on him, whilst at the eleventh hour having to induct a new singing partner.
I saw him before the show and he looked a little tired but well .. and that night gave the super-charged performance of his life and sang his ass off. He then continued promoting and into the tour, putting huge energy into every show as he always does. Did he look tired at times? You bet .. who wouldn't? Was his voice strained at times? No doubt, and remember this was during the period which was leading up to the final discovery that he had been suffering from a vocal cyst for some time. Who knows how long that had been causing difficulty.
I'm not sure why you consider him to have been unhealthy in 1978 .. he looked pretty fit and energy-packed when I saw him :-) In 2003 he dropped like a stone on stage during an amazing tour .. but that was found to be WPW syndrome, he had surgery and was back on stage in a relatively short time, brimming with energy again and fit as a musical flea :-) Someone in generally poor health wouldn't have bounded back to a tour imo.
Really imo you're highlighting that in the early eighties relentless touring took its toll, and then the Bat3 tour and promotion was lengthy and exhausting, and led straight into the next tour when he was under great strain, worrying about his voice, which culminated in the diagnosis of the vocal cyst. Fortunately that healed .. and we've now heard the marvellous results of the rest and the vocal coaching. And now of course, he's recorded an album he loves with every fibre of his being, and has a new energy, sense of creative purpose, and lease of life :D

I like ur comment dude. And I agree, RAH had a great atmosphere. A lot things look like they went right that night. But with all of the wrong that occurred during the Bat 3 times, he couldn't sustain that type of show from night to night. So i agree...in a sense, that show was great, but it wasn't a real representation of his energy back then. It was just one night that clicked at at time where that was probably only capable of happening as a fluke.
Now, on the other hand, we have seen RAH-calibre shows night after night in the US and UK. So this, in contrast to the actual RAH, exhibits a more real sense of fun and positive energy...being able to repeatedly have all the right things click and have the show happen that way each night, or close to it.
And in a few days....i'll be able to tell you if it has continued into the 3rd leg of the tour :)
I'd like to see someone without energy fulfill the number and calibre of shows Meat delivered after the RAH .. and he did manage to sustain some terrific shows night after night. But it was a very long tour, and must have been exhausting, so in my view you'd need to be generally fit to have managed it at all. I don't know which shows you went to, but I saw a lot on that tour in the UK and the USA, and Meat's energy was great at all the ones I went to, every song filled with all the passion he always delivers.
The RAH was a great show, great performance, and had an amazing atmosphere .. but if we're talking calibre, the current shows are imo even better vocally, because Meat's voice has healed and he's singing better than he has for years. That he knows this I think contributes to his obvious enjoyment and fun at every show, plus I think the new album, new arrangements, and a fantastic band that he revels in, contribute to a renewed enthusiasm and love of what he's doing. For some years now he's stressed about his voice (as he has said when people post their worries about the toll on it, "I worry enough for all of us!") .. That's been lifted imo .. and that too is what we see so positively on stage and has put a new spring in his performing step.
Enjoy your show.

I'm not sure why you felt you needed to say that. My comment was that the US and UK shows were all or mostly as good as RAH each night. So we both just said the same opinion in two different ways..lol

Thanks I will hehe :)

Because you said that the RAH wasn't a real representation of his energy "back then" and was just one night, "a fluke". Some may well think that Meat was "very unhealthy, energy gone" during that time. That's their view to which they're entitled, but I didn't see him that way, on or off stage. If you think the rest of the shows that tour were all mostly as good as the RAH then I misunderstood you, and I apologise, but when you referred to the UK and US shows it seemed to me that you were talking about this current tour, on which I commented that I think vocally, and musically, the calibre is better than the RAH.

RAH was a special show in terms of energy on and off stage, the atmosphere in the audience that night was what helped to make the evening extra special. Musically it was in my opinion one of the weakest of the four shows I saw in that short run in the autumn of 2006. Mannheim two nights before RAH and then New York and Toronto a couple of weeks later. The latter two were muscially superior to RAH (not surprising really, any London show has the added pressure of being in London and also it was only the third time that incarnation of the band had played live together in front of an audience it follows that they're going to get better the more they play together), RAH was IMO overall the better show because the atmosphere of the crowd made it so.
Everyone raves about the RAH show being superb, but in reality quality wise it wasn't that great when compared to the recent shows. That doesn't mean it wasn't a special show in many many ways. It's all a question of what yardstick you use to measure it.
Hindsight is always a great equaller, especially when we have the knowledge that we do now with regards to Meat's attitude to the time and also the whole cyst thing. Whilst the shows of that period were largely enjoyable at the time, they do pale in comparison to the recent HCTB shows.

What Andy is saying is right. I have an audience recording of the RAH show and vocally Meat is only marginally better than 3 Bats Live. It was the overall atmsophere that made the show.

I'd agree with that :-) Bags of energy, a terrific atmosphere, and such a special venue ..

Yes .. save I'd say "hugely" enjoyable .. but then I'm a glass full person when it comes to Meat performing ;) But during that time my memory is of Meat promoting Bat3 with great energy and enthusiasm over a sustained and lengthy period .. actually I seem to recall he was later criticised by some for how just much energy and enthusiasm he had put into it given how unhappy he afterwards revealed he had felt about much of what had taken place. I think he probably knackered himself in the process, but I don't think he could be described as unfit or lacking in energy, given what he accomplished :-) .. in fact didn't we see him on an exercise bike as part of his fitness programme?
