View Full Version : European Tour 1982
This also was written inside concert brochure - anyone know where it comes from or who wrote it?
Let the revels begin
While the night is still young
Let the revels begin
Call the children together
How do you bury
The skulls of your country
How do you bury
A nation of fear
Where do you hide
Through the long years
of dying
Give me a tombstone
And a wreath
of all yours tears.....

I'm a librarian, I absolutely can't let questions like this go by without looking 'round a bit. I did searches of chunks of the lyrics on Yahoo and Google, and I came up with a site that seems to have the lyrics on it- but- when I go there is in German and it locks up before I can get to the lyrics. But- in the little summary on both search engines it does say copyright 1982 Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf. Maybe it was written specially for the tour book? The web address is: www.mix-it-baby.de/texte/m/MEAT-01.HTM , but be aware that it just locks up. I hope someone out there knows the answer!

Hi, Dottie and Sherrie! I've always assumed that this was Jim's song. It was called "Come into the Night." I've seen it performed in the Dortmund 1981/82? concert, which was televised.
At this time, Ted Neely (from Jesus Christ SuperStar) was a part of the Neverland Express. He came out to the mike and began to sing the song. The other members of the band, including Pam Moore, who was Meat's female singer at the time, joined in as well. Meat did NOT sing any of it.
If you'd like to hear some of it, right click here (http://www.conubic.com/gone/george/revels.mp3) to download it to your computer.
Sorry that I don't have a lot of specifics. I believe it was originally written for Jim's play "Neverland." At least, it certainly sounds as though it was. But I'm sure someone will come along here who WILL know more about it than I. :)
Hope this helps a little.
Love,
MB

Sherrie a big thank you anyway for taking the time to look for me - and yes it does lock up :!: I'm in the process of amassing all my meatie stuff and filing it properly, so this this info can now be logged with the above.
Thanks once again.

Hi Mb thank you so much for all the info printed above - so many clever fans on here - I honestly didn't know where to look. Now I can file this info away with the rest of my meatie stuff
You're right MB. "Come In The Night" does come from Jim Steinman's play "Neverland" but it actually goes back a little further than that. The earliest trace of "Come In The Night" I've found was in the Steinman play "The Dream Engine" which was performed at Mount Holyoke College in May 1969. This was an early version of "Neverland".
"Come In The Night" was included in Meat's set for the 1981/82 tour and was later resurrected again for his "Lost Boys & Golden Girls Tour" in 1988, when Meat would play the part of Hook.
Oh my God this music I love it -The guitar work is fantastic, and that singer I thought it was Bon Jovi for a moment. Doesn't it build I've never quite heard anything like it. Will there be any chance I could buy an original version somehow/ somewhere. I will definetely will keep this in my music library on the computer I am so glad I put this topic up it just goes to show if you don't ask, you'll never find out.

Dottie, if you look back at your "Bat" 25th anniversary (January) edition of the RVM you'll find the lyrics to "Come In The Night" are printed there to on the inside front cover, over a picture of a very young looking Meat & Jim!

It's strange that you should bring this topic up as I have just been listening to it on the dortmund bootleg and I got to wondering why this was never released on an official album such as Deadringeror Bad For Good?
I always thought the song was called 'Come In The Night' (Let The Revels Begin)

Its brilliant isn't it Renegade Angel, just love that guitar, it really captures the live performance - so many live songs have little bits of clapping etc tagged on the end of the song, almost inconsequential to atmostphere.
