View Full Version : Dutch Meat Loaf fansite online!
www.meat-loaf.nl
Most Dutchies love to interact with Meat Fans all over the world. Like over here on this forum. But besides that, they also like to have a place of their own in cyberspace, where they can talk about the Big Guy in Dutch.
There was no such place. So in January, I started Meat Elkaar Online, the Meat Loaf forum for Dutchies, at boardnation (free boards). I searched for Dutch Meat fans on internet, found some too... :D At the promo-concert in Amsterdam Michel and Tim, the butcher, dealt out business cards and now we have 82 members.
Up until yesterday, we only had the forum, which with 82 members and over 12.000 posts is alive and kicking. But my buddy Paveway built a fansite around the forum, so it's now a full-grown Dutch fansite.
Many thanks to Michel and Tim's site (the first site that linked us), and internationally : Mirror Of The Soul (David and Jules) and The Multimedia Site of Jen Salyer for linking us while we had just the forum and nothing else... Many thanks for linking us, without even a real fansite around the forum.
Also many thanks to R. for allowing me to promote the website. Too bad there's no "kissing" smiley around, he he...
Should other sites feel the urge to link us: drop me a mail at forummaster@meat-loaf.nl or guppie@meat-loaf.nl Paveway made a good-looking banner.
Now... go check out the site. Even if you can't read Dutch: just to get an impression.

Yes It's great!
If there are any Dutch Meat Loaf-fans on the internet who aren't addicted to the forum yet, the site definately will bring them to the forum "like a Sailor to a Siren!".
It is also a site who's giving dutch Meat Loaf fans, who doesn't speak english very well, all the information they want to know about Meat Loaf.
And it does that on a site that's good and clearly! http://www.opkikkertje.nl/smilies/applaus/applaus.gif

lol... I think it's far more easy for a Dutchy to learn Englisch as it is for an American or English person to learn dutch :lol:
We are a very small country, we can't expect the rest of the world to learn Dutch. So in 7th grade nowadays, the Dutchies learn to speak a little English.
I myself like languages. I speak English. Improves while reading here everyday. And l can read German, speak a little and the same goes for French. To read is easier than to write...
About the website: we want it interactive. Dutch fans sending in stories and photo's... one of the forum-members is going to do a weekly column.
Like Mariella said: there can't be enough Meat fansites

Nice site there Guppie and all other contributors.

Great site, booking some dutch lessons soon. :D
Great site, booking some dutch lessons soon. :D
I suppose, because of the site Dutch will soon be a world language :lol: :wink:
Let's start with lesson 1 of QT's MLUKFC.com learning-Dutch-education:
Ik will give you some words, who are important for understand the site and forum, and there meanings:
Ja= Yes
Nee= No
forumverslaafde= someone who's addicted to the forum
Meat Cafeetje= Little "Meat" Bar: The off-topic part of the forum
gesprek= conversation
Algemeen= general
elkaar= eachother
lid= member
verhaal= story
over dit forum= about this forum
Hallo allemaal! = Hello everybody!
skip-knop= skip-bottom (on a cd-player)
ouwehoeren= talking about unimportant things
That was lesson 1. Good Luck with learning it!
:lol:
Thank's for the lessons QT, they hav been very helpful :D

The site is very nice, I like it. I'm very sad, that there is no Austrian - ML Fan Site, but, Hey, maybe I'm going to make one, but not now, I don't have the time yet.
Only wanted to say a wonderful site, Greetings to all the Dutch Fans (and all the others all around the world, too)

Thanks for the compliment, Rushour. You do that, make your own Austrian Fan site if you have the time. Every country should have one :D
That's why I founded the Dutch forum, for the Dutchies there was nothing either..
Nice site, it is good to see some fan photos :)
I manages to translate Foto's into Photos. didn't I do well!
lol... you did GREAT, Badger :lol:

he he he... but the word Photo isn't that much different from Foto, now is it... so my guess is that you didn't have to look it up. You're just being funny. :lol:
I think this is so nice, all the people that surfed to our Fansite, knowing in advance that they won't be able to read anything. 8)

At least we all now know where the pics are :)
Seriously, it is always nice to look at things fans have done, and even random clicking can be entertaining when Meat is about.
lol... yeah, thanks to you, every non-Dutchy can now find the photo's :lol:
Hi Guppie,hoe gaat het met jou?
(And i hope i got that right)
just wanted to say i went back for a second longer look at your site today...was impressed.wish i spoke Dutch though :(
You can work out some of what it says ,but not a lot.All you Dutch fans are very clever as you can speak more than one language..i sadly cannot.
Wishing you continued sucess with it ,you deserve it after all your hard work.
QT, The Dutch lesson was appreciated.
You got it right, Bren, he he... SO great to see you post a Dutch line, he he...
The compliment about the site I have to pass on to Paveway, because he's the one that built the site around the forum.
No no... has nothing to do with clever. The Netherlands is a small country, we can't expect other (larger) countries to speak Dutch. So we turn it around and teach English in 7 grade elementary school. Also in high school and students can also choose to learn German and French.
There would be no point in teaching 7 grade pupils in the UK or US or other countries Dutch :lol:

Bren de vleermuis
Very very GOOD!! I think you need only one more lesson with the most difficult dutch words. And here is comes:
Lesson two out of two (ain't bad):
Achteruitkijkspiegel = rear view mirror
Vloedgolf = tidal wave
de nederlands taal is niet moeilijk te leren= the dutch language isn't difficult to learn
Ik spreek vloeiend Nederlands= I speak fluent Dutch
Maar dat Engels, daar snap ik de ballen niet van= But english is too hard for me (free translation :lol: )
So, now you can speak Dutch I think :wink: But you knew quite a lot thinks i didn't learn you also, how do you know that words? Do you have a book to translate English in Dutch?
Good luck with this last lesson :D

QT Dank je wel, for lesson two :lol:
I can't think of many instances,where the word tidal wave,would come into everyday conversation :lol: but i thank you in any way. :lol:
i know the words i used because,people like yourself some times post Dutch phrases, or words as you have just done in lesson two.....
I learn and remember them, i have a good memory.
But, mainly it is thanks to Asha. :D who is kind enough to tell me how to say some things in Dutch,the fact that she is willing to take the time to do so ,is greatly appreciated by me. :D
ALL, you Dutch fans speak English so well, so i like to learn and try and speak some Dutch.
Sure, Bren.
I'll think of some stuff that will come in handy........

Asha
Dank je wel, Asha :D
Wow... you're doing great, Bren :lol:
Achteruitkijkspiegel = rear view mirror
can someone tell me the Dutch for "Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are" is, as its long enough in english. and if thats what Rear view mirror is in Dutch, it must be an amazingly long title.
Dank Je Wel
Bren de Vleermuis
Objecten in de achteruitkijkspiegel kunnen dichterbij lijken dan dat ze werkelijk zijn.
There you go Bren, that's it..
Still think on your lessons topic Bren, any ideas, other thigs you want to know?
Asha
Dat is letterlijk vertaald.... Rear view mirror is in Dutch Binnenspiegel. :)
okay: Rear view mirror: when you translate that litterally, it is "achteruit kijk spiegel" ,like Asha says. But nobody calls that mirror an "achteruit kijk spiegel", it's called a "binnenspiegel" :D
Dank je wel, for the explanation Guppie, it's appreciated. Iunderstand now
:D
Asha, i'll have a think and let you know. :D

Let's start with lesson 1 of QT's MLUKFC.com learning-Dutch-education:
Ik will give you some words, who are important for understand the site and forum, and there meanings:
ouwehoeren= talking about unimportant things
Hartelijk bedankt (Thank you very much) for the translation of this word. LeeGer in the Dutch forum was asking me, if I can also "ouwehoeren" in Dutch. Now I understand it! You never stop learning. :lol:
Thank you very much for your great site!! And groetjes to Guppie!!!
See you!!
Soon We will take over the world...
Eh...sorry, wrong forum 8) :D
And this forum. :lol:
Forgot to read that you were posting on the wrong forum. :lol:
Groetjes right back at ya, Silvian :D
And about the take-over, Mich? I have [shark-modus], Pave is a tank and R. won't let you either :lol: And don't forget Satan's on this board too, he he..
okay: Rear view mirror: when you translate that litterally, it is "achteruit kijk spiegel" ,like Asha says. But nobody calls that mirror an "achteruit kijk spiegel", it's called a "binnenspiegel" :D
Am I Nobody?? 8O
We call it a "achteruitkijkspiegel", and I've looked in my dutch "woordenboek"(= book in which you can look for the meaning of difficult words) and in that the word "achteruitkijkspiegel" is mentioned! So it is a correct dutch word! But the word "Binnenspiegel" I can not find!!!
I personally never knew the word "binnenspiegel" but called it always "achteruitkijkspiegel". The first time I heard the first word was when I learned to drive a car. The teacher used that word to make a difference between the mirror inside the car ("binnenspiegel") and the mirror outside the car by the door ("buitenspiegel")
For the foreign readers who are really confused about this post: the dutch word is "achteruitkijkspiegel" but in "Brabo-land"where Guppie comes from they use "binnenspiegel" :wink:
The chorus from "Objects"in dutch:
Het was lang geleden en het was ver weg, oh god het lijkt zo erg ver.
Maar als het leven net een snelweg is, dan is je ziel net de auto
en objecten in de achteruitkijkspiegel kunnen dichterbij lijken dan ze zijn.
I've taken a look at "van Dale" (www.vandale.nl) en that dictionary (I remember the word) also knows "binnenspiegel"
ach·ter·uit·kijk·spie·gel (de ~ (m.))
1 spiegeltje aan een auto of motorfiets waarin men de situatie op de weg achter zich kan zien
bin·nen·spie·gel (de ~ (m.))
1 achteruitkijkspiegel in een auto
Conclusion: The "binnenspiegel" is the rear view mirror inside the car.
The "achteruitkijkspiegel"can be used for all kinds of rear view mirrors :D

this is certainly confusing :lol: but i understand you explanation well enough.

Bren, Ik hoop dat je een goede dag hebt gehad?
You see bren, even we are confused over our own language :)
So no wonder you are confused as well..
I really had a ball (meant well) over your sentences, I was thinking all the time if there were more ways to say them then one, hehe, even my boyfriend helped.
Goedenavond,
Asha
Goedenavond Asha,
Dank je wel.Hoe gaat het vanavond met je? Ik hoop dat alles goed is.
Ik zal er een poosje niet zijn,ik ga naar mijn ouders,at the weekend.
The last bit i'm very unsure of :roll: it's supposed to say..i won't be about for a while 'i'm going to my parents at the weekend.
If it says nothing of the sort ,then i apologise.
i have plenty more i wish to ask, depends how infinite your patience is :lol:
goodenavond
Bren
Hi Bren, if you wanted to say you are going to your parents for the weekend you could say: ik ga naar mijn ouders voor het weekend or I ben het weekend bij mijn ouders.. But what you wrote made perfect sense to me.
Bren just ask en if I have the time I'll answer for you, I enjoy it..
Asha
Dank je wel Asha :D :D

The "achteruitkijkspiegel"can be used for all kinds of rear view mirrors :D
If you have driving-lessons, they never say e.g. if you have to make a right turn "achteruitkijkspiegel/rechterschouder" , they say "binnenspiegel/rechterschouder"
I never heard of "achteruitkijkspiegel"being used, but it makes sence for a motor, because on a bike you are not "binnen".
Sorry Bren for being even more confusing, but I studied translater English for a year (years back) and the only right translation for such a mirror in a car would have to be "binnenspiegel".
btw Bren: I saw your Dutch is improving by the minute 8)
Dank je wel Guppie :D
Graag gedaan, Bren (You're welcome :D )

Hi Sue,
I was just about to suggest, the people from Holland could create a 'poll' about 'the rear-view mirror' at the off-topic-section, also! :lol:
Mariella
Poll about the rear view mirror? Totally uninteresting in my view. What's the use of having a poll about that? I don't get it. That would be stupid. Strange suggestion. I just don't get that, Mariella. I think you mean that as a joke, right?? Anyway, I'm not planning to make such a poll he he...
About the off topic: fine by me... let R. move the topic then. I've seen more topics going off topic over here ( and not just here, anywhere in general) than topics that stay ontopic.
He he... all forums seem the same, come to that.
I'm a member here, not a mod. So I myself can't move anything. Sorry. If R. gets online, he can move it to the offtopic section.
I'm sorry if all the response this topic had and if the Dutch lectures started by one of the Dutch fans were irritating to the rest. I can't help that. Don't feel responsible either.
Oh well... this can easily be resolved by R. or one of the mods to move the topic.
-edited: I wrote offtopic instead of ontopic :D
