This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!

Peace On Earth (6)

Over 2 months of the new album I just decided to re-open this topic. Peace On Earth is the 1st song on the album. For me this is the worst 1st song of all of Meat's records. Even Razor's Edge and Exection Day is better for me. The intro is okay, could be better, but the first lines are crap to me.

It's just chaotic and hectic, I miss the main melody in the song. The style of vocal is bad, most of the song seem speech and not sing. I like the piano and violins in the bridge, give a mood of Modern Girl. I don't understand the drums and guitars in the fast parts. Some parts of Meat's vocal are more whimper.

Definitely not my style!

My score: 6

I actually think it's a great opener and fits in well with the record. The album is supposed to be a concept album about someone who is at war and injured so for me the chaotic nature of it fits in very well with the overall theme.

It's a bit proggy in that it doesn't stay constant in terms of melody but shifts around a bit. It's certainly as you say not Meats greatest but in terms of fitting with the album it works as a great opener.

7/10

Couldn't disagree more.

Peace On Earth is one of the best songs on the album and is a perfect opener. It sets up the story very well and it's extremely powerful, both in terms of the vocals and the emotion. Meat skillfully gets across the frustration and the conflict in Patrick. The line where he says "I don't wanna die" gets me every time.

Absolutely love the song - easily a 9/10

I think it starts off extremely promising but the chorus is such a musical disappointment that it doesn't work for me, random guitar solos. It kinda goes all over the place, which is not what I want from Meaty music. A shame. 5/10

I assume we're marking this against other Meat songs and not against the rest of the album? Therefore FCOL is 10 and :shit: is 0.

So Epic. The crash at the beginning scared the jesus outta me the first time I heard it.

I prefer the Rick Brantley version...much more dynamic. Something got lost in Meat's cover.
The intro is great though!

YES! This is a fantastic track. Got some mighty fine guitar playing, a solid drum beat. When I play it, I'm overhwelmed with sound. When songs sound this good, I DON'T WANT Meat to quit making music ;) I LOVE IT TOO :D

I think if we marked against the album and not against other songs, it would be another topic. Here we talk about only tracks, not about "how tracks fix on the album".

1st day average: 7.36 (81/11)

I like it alot but it's not the best song on the album. I'm between a 7 and an 8 for it, i'll settle on 7. It tells a great story though, really good narrative.

For me it is the best way to open this album. Yes the song is chaotic, but it shows all the feelings of a man which is in a situation like Patrick.
I like the change between speaking and singing, itīs the best demonstration for the horrible experience in a war. 9/10

It's crazy and chaotic because war is crazy and chaotic. You go through moments of pure adrenaline followed by moments of deep reflection and sorrow. This song reflects that perfectly well in my mind. Its not normally the kind of style of music I like, but I hear something new everytime its on so it gets a decent score from me:

9/10

This is Meat's second best opener for me (behind Bat), it is so loud and intruding and I love the way it builds. The perfect start to a new era for Meat and I love the spoken, "Hang Cool, Teddy Bear," section. EPIC! 9.5/10

Same here, the power and passion of Meat's voice in this song is awe inspiring. When he sings, I don't wanna die, I just wanna go home, you can hear the anguish in his voice.

Love the song too - 9/10

Love the dramatic intro and the passionate chorus, one of the best album-openers Meat has ever recorded. 9/10

A terrific song which captures the chaos of and emotional response to war perfectly imo. Great track, brilliantly delivered. And given the storyline of the album, absolutely right as the opening track for me. I don't view or listen to this album as a collection of songs, but as a complete work, enhanced by the power of the story and the journey the character takes; so for me it's the only track which is right to open the album, and each track builds on the next whilst linking backwards to previous tracks and forward into those which follow.

I find scoring Meat's work a trifle invidious .. So as I have no fault to find with the concept, the lyrics, the music and Meat's delivery .. why on earth would I rate it less than 10? :)

while i disagree with the fantasy storyline of the album, and the fact it IS a collection songs, (almost as much recycled songs as a steinman composition only from different writers with different concepts) rather than a complete work, with no tracks building to the next or linking backwards, or forwards as is suggested..

I really like peace on earth

great choice for an opening song!

Can I change my score from 7 to 8? Changed my mind! Also where's the next song? You've done the first three but it's been a while.

The original song is slightly better than Meat's version but this one has cool orchestration. The only thing I dislike is the "hang cool, teddy bear" line they added to the lyrics. I always have to think of the scene in the Russ Meyer movie when I hear it, it doesn't fit into the song, in my opinion.
