I believe it was for a film role, and if I remember rightly, they decided later that he need not have cut it

Me too :) Better for not being typecast in films .. and it's why he still looks so youthful .. and not the oldest swinger in town :)

I think that although the long hair suited him in his younger days, the short hair suits him now.

The first time I remember actually making an effort to see what this amazing singer looked like was after he'd cut his hair and I remember thinking what a good looking man he was.

I liked Meat's long hair but I think he looks alot better now he's kept it short because he didn't really want a receeding hairline like Jim Steinman did he . Between you, and the brick wall I wish Jim would cut his hair, the receeding hairline looks ridiculas but that's just me personally...

As recently as last Christmas (http://jimsteinman.com/jim/JSteinman&cool_glasses&IndiggoA.jpg), that story hadn't changed. Guess Jim loves his long hair.

Jim looks ridiculous with long hair at his age.

He cut it for a role for a movie called 'Everything that rises' directed by Dennis Quaid.

Much agreed. If it weren't so long and frizzy, it might even work as a mid-level cut, not quite the mullet this guy (http://www.countryuniverse.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Joe-Diffie.jpg) has, but something similar. (Sorry; out-of-work hairdresser.)

I dunno ... to me, that's who Steinman "is". The long hair, the leather jacket, the jewelry (Meat is sporting a VERY Steinman-like ring in a HCTB promo shot) ... it's part of his "persona". I sure wouldn't want to see him walking around looking like someone's grandpop you'd see in Wal-Mart!

Someone above mentioned being a hairdresser, maybe you should forward him some good conditioner? *smile*
