...and Meat decided that he just didn't want to sing anymore, and made the full shift to acting, what would you think about that?
I for one would love to see Meat in more roles, he's a fantastic actor in a very Gary Oldman kind of way. And there's a hint of Brando to Meat, if you look in the right places.
I'd love to see Meat in an indie with a shot at some awards for a great performance - like The Wrestler and... whatever that film with (ahem) Jeff Bridges (imposter!) was called recently.
Thoughts?
Doode.
Ok Doode I'll tackle this with you.....can I just say that there would be a period of mourning on my part when he parks the tour buses for the last time.
But onto your topic of full focus on acting, I would love to see Meat play a high profile Judge on a controversial case that's been made into a movie. Or possibly a key Senator in a political drama. For a more light role, I'm can picture Meat as a landlord with a Money Pit type of scenario based mostly on humor.
I have a creative bug now, I'm gonna' go write some parts for Meat. LOL.

I would love to see Meat get away from being a bad guy and star in a light romantic comedy. Or portray a police detective, similar to him role in Citizen Jane.

Meat makes for a great police detective. I would love more of that too, I'm just afraid since he's done it already, he may not want to do it again. Of course, I'm only saying that because of the way he said he chooses his parts. But okay, I'm with you on the light romantic comedy.

Meat's probably too old to play a convincing detective. Unless you went the private eye route.

Good point .. but he has said in a few interviews now that he's up for the role of an undercover FBI agent. I hope it works out and he can fit it
in his schedule :-)

WHAT? Did you see Citizen Jane? Do you watch CSI?
Personally speaking, Meat Loaf the rock star is such a strong character that any role that Meat Loaf the actor takes on still has Meat Loaf the Rock Star shining through it.
As a result of this , I've never really been a huge fan of Meat's acting career. He was great in Fight Club and 51st State, but to me he played roles in both films that were still heavily influenced by the Meat Loaf "I" know. In a similar way to Leslie Grantham always being Dirty Den, or Matt Le Blanc always being Joey whichever roles they play.
First and foremost I'm a fan of Meat because of his singing (recorided and touring), I've got a fairly heft collection of Meat Loaf Vinyls, CDs and DVDs but they're all music related. I have copies of 51st State and Fight Club on DVD, but I own those copies because I love the films not because Meat was in them. To use random examples of films that Meat's been in that I'm not keen on, I don't own a copy of Pleasure Drivers or Spice World because Meat's in them.
Meat's slogged his guts out both on stage and in the studio singing and over the years has received accolades and recognition for this. He's also over the years slogged his guts out on film, in a way it'd be nice to see him land a role that provided some recognition for his acting talents. But to me, I'm pretty confident that I'd still see Meat Loaf the Rock Star up there on the silver screen, rather than the character he's portraying.

Yeah, I heard that. I think undercover FBI agent is a little different character than what he's played in the past. And I, too, hope it works out with his schedule.

Meat Loaf the rock character is a very dominant character and some of the latest serious characters Meat plays are the anti-Meat. You almost have to separate the two.
Be it on TV or the Silver Screen: roles such as Citizen Jane, Focus, Rustin, and the House episode....are far removed from rock star. Now a role like on Monk was harder to take the rock star persona away from the witch doctor. For me, if Meat has a character that can go weird or over the top, it's going to be tougher for me to not see his music stage influence on that character
(such as in Formula 51 or Black Dog).

If it all ended I dare say Sony would mark the occasion by reissuing Bat Out Of Hell and putting out a compilation CD!

Hey man, did you see his guest slot on House? It was total method. Meat Loaf as we know him wasn't present. The part of me that's the Meat Loaf fan was going "awww man, that may as well just be any (good) actor, because it's nothing like Meat at all" and the part of me that's into the show was going "That's awesome... how he's got certain nuances down... that's total method."
If you didn't see it, check it out.

Suzie & Vicki,
I could really see Meat in a romantic comedy, actually. Just one. And it would have to be done with a tone similar to that last Dustin Hoffman film, or Steve Martin's Shopgirl. Older man, younger girl (not too much younger... we all know how certain *moronic* newspapers react to that), with the humour in the background.
You know what though? I'd love to see Hang Cool the Movie. As an indie. Where Meat plays the conscience of Patric. And maybe even an older Patric looking back on his life (where the real narrative begins with the younger characters). Hmm... maybe that could be the twist. The conscience guiding him through the movie (ambiguous... good/bad?) actually turns out to be an older Patric in the end.

I'm surprised they never put the whole of the Nassau concert on a bonus CD. They obviously have (had) the chance.

I have no trouble not seeing "the rock star" when I watch Meat in films. He's a pretty fine actor imo, and when he immerses himself in a character I don't see the concert "Meat Loaf" character at all. Still think his finest work to date was in Focus, which he played with an incredibly deft touch.
Indies often struggle to get distribution .. I'd like to see Meat in a role he could get an Oscar for, to set next to the Grammy :-)
Because he still looks so youthful I see no barrier to him playing a role like the FBI agent he is considering .. Mandy Patinkin is only 5 years younger but hasn't stayed as young looking and never looked out of place in Criminal Minds.
I'd like to see Meat in a role as a forensic psychologist; he'd be able to bring interest and gravtitas to that, and advisory roles aren't restricted by concerns about age ..
However .. with a tour about to commence I think talk of retirement is a little like reports of Mark Twain's death .. not exaggerated, but premature ;)

I always thought Meat would be great in a television sitcom. That way we would get to see him on tv every week. And Patti could play his wife- kind of a take on "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"- like a modern day "Honeymooners".

2 roles:
1) Bond Villian (Blofeld or his equivalent in Quantum?)
2) Dr Who (not Dr Who himself, but some sort of role - oooooh maybe hypnotising messages in a song!!!!)

Lol! No. I would have booked him on with Mad Mike on Bid TV. Those were the days.
1) Bond Villian (Blofeld or his equivalent in Quantum?)
I think he'd make a great Bond villain. In a classic Bond movie of course, not in one of those dull action flicks starring Daniel Craig.
I remember a TV ad for Meat's live shows in 1995/1996 in which he appeared as a Blofeld-like character.

Meat won't quit singing. Period. After all the setbacks he's been through, anyone else would have quit years ago.
I still have the t shirt he signed for me in 1989 when he was just touring clubs, everytime I hear talk of him quitting I take out the t shirt and read. Short and sweet...

Ok, Quantum was a bit pants. OK, quite a lot pants. But Casino Royale is one of the best Bond films. Fact.
Casino Royale worked well as an action movie but it lacked almost everything that makes a Bond movie a Bond movie - and Craig seemed to present one and the same facial expression through the whole film. :tired: One of the reasons why I like Meat as an actor and even endure an Uwe Boll flick if he belongs to the cast: The guy knows how to use his face.

I think the main problem with Casino Royale was that Daniel Craig potrayed Bond as a pretty nasty and unlikeable bloke. I know it's closer to how Fleming imagined Bond to be, but it didn't make for a good film. Quantum Of Solace on the other hand was just a shaky-cam mess.

Oddly enough the third film is on hiatus, as MGM have run out of funding while quite some way into shooting already.

I am consoling myself with the same thought! Meat is always telling us to "Never, ever stop rocking." I'm hoping he is going to listen to himself!

Meat did a great job in Citizen Jane!!! Great performance as the reserved, persistent Police Detective. I'd like to see him do a sitcom. Maybe as the funny Dad or crazy neighbor. Something that uses his natural humor!!

And if you haven't seen this before, don't get too excited.
This was the result of a social event, a considerable ammount of drink, a gulable reporter who doesn't always check his sources, and a mlukfc staff member who thought i'd be a bit of a laugh to see how much he could lead this guy on for.
A lot of other reporters picked up the story and ran it without checking it too.
I think it's a bit of a clue that a TEXAN said he would be "chuffed" to get a role.
I don't think "chuffed" is a common slang term in the lone star state :lmao:
