View Full Version : Finally, the 3rd single!!
Garrett

The third single out of CHSIB is coming! In the middle of July, "Because Of You" will be released as the next single in Germany. I'm very happy and I'm overwhelmed about this news! "Because Of You" is such a great song. The 3rd single will be fantastic!!! And I hope "Shadowland" will be on it as a B-side track. But the single of "Because Of You" will only come out in Germany and maybe Netherlands.
But don't be sad! In the UK, there also comes a new single out. But it's not "Because Of You". At the end of July, "Testify" will be the next single in the UK! So, for the english people it's also reason to be very happy, cause "Testify" is such a great song, too.
I haven't heard anything about promo videos to these songs yet. But that doesn't mean, that there are no videos planned.
WHY WHY WHY don't they release DIST in the UK?!?!?
It already has a video, a decent single edit (which CHSIB didn't) so I totally don't understand it...the single edit of Testify cuts out the best bit!

Source?
It's official news at "Keep Rockin' - The German Meat Loaf Fanclub".
Any hints on their source?

What kind of hint?
I'm just wondering, that's all.
It's just posted there. Where does that information come from?
Is it official? Is it a rumour?

No, it seems that isn't just a rumor. And it isn't just posted there. It's also listed on 'News' there. I don't know where Eva has this information from, I should ask her.

I don't know all of the sources, ofcourse, but Fire Ball is one of them at least. He talked about this, didn't know if it was 'official' yet.
So I think there is a pretty good change this is true.
Testify is a song I truly 'believe' in!! Just hope they will shoot a video for this brilliant song.
I don't know anything about BOY being released in Holland aswell. But that doesn't mean it's not happening. Love the song too, but Testify is my absolute favourite!
Great day to you,
Mariella

Ah - ok. 8)
10th Street Entertainment (Meat's management) have confirmed that "Because Of You" will be the new single in Germany and Holland, and that "Testify" will be released in the UK. The video situation is being worked on right now.
:D
WOW! brilliant news :D I love both of these.
I'm especially pleased that Testify is to be released as a single here in the U.K.
You're right Mariella, a video would be great. :D
mariella
30 May 2003, 22:53
Thank you so much, Diane.
Good to know 'the video situation' is being worked on. Was rather worried about that. Couldn't agree more, Terri. This song NEEDS a video. Because it has the potential of becoming a worldwide #1!, I truly believe that!!
This IS a great year, I can just feel it!
I Testify!
Mariella
I can't tell you how excited I am that "Testify" is to be the next single in the UK. This is the one I'd been hoping for! It would be really cool to have Meat fronting a big gospel choir in the video! 8)
What a great idea for the video to Testify, Diane
I can't wait, I just love this song :D

Yes Diane, think so too. It has to be 'pure' and 'uplifting' (does that make any sense?? I am Dutch! )
I truly feel THIS is the moment we've been waiting for!!!
CHSIB (the single) was absolutely great, but with the lack of input from the record-company, it Couldn't reach #1. It did so much better then they expected though!!
Let's make **** sure this one goes where it deserves to go!!!
Sorry, but I am sure BOY will also be 'promoted' by other people. I am 'going' for Testify!!! I Have a dream...
I have always LOVED 'a little help from my friends' in my life!
Great day to you!
Mariella
Both Because of YOu and Testify are good choices. Both have hit potential. I think Love You Out Loud would be a good choice too.
About Meat's management... I thought it was left bank??
I agree LOVE YOU OUT LOUD is brilliant too, and would be another good candidate for release as a single.
But don't be sad! In the UK, there also comes a new single out. But it's not "Because Of You". At the end of July, "Testify" will be the next single in the UK!
Why is it being released at the end of July? That's during the US leg of the tour so there will be no promotion for the single (other than the video).
Testify is less commercial than CHSIB so surely it requires MORE promotion in order for it to be a hit.
Maybe the record company has some big marketing plan but to me, it would make more sense to release any single around the time that they are in UK and to fill every hour with them recording TV shows to promote the single. But then I've never understood why they're playing a concert way out in Plymouth anyway....

Absolutely agree with you Mariella. "Testify" always stood out to me as a single. It's the ultimate feel-good song. Would be amazing live in concert too. It would really rock the arenas! :D

It was Left Bank but is now 10th Street Entertainment.

What exciting news and I totally agree with you both, Testify is an outstanding track. From the very first listen I knew that song was special. It screams to be performed live, and now it seems that may be a reality! Can't wait for the video either. What great news to start out the weekend with.

I think Because of You is also a great track..... but I'll leave the comment on that to tbuck, he has a special place in his heart for it.

I think there will be more promotion to come for "Testify" and "BOY" Sue. Classic Rock magazine have already said in their current issue that they have an interview with Meat for future publication. We don't know what else Meat may have done promo wise while he was in the UK and Europe recently which is being held back until the new singles get released. Maybe this will be when we will get the VH-1 "Meat Loaf Reveals ...." show which was originally scheduled for their Meat Loaf night.
I have to disagree with you about "Testify" being less commercial than "CHSIB". I thought the first time I heard it, and still do, that it has enormous potential as a single. It's certainly very different to most of what Meat has done before, and the unconverted (excuse the pun) may not instantly recognise this as a Meat song. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and it may even have a broader appeal. It would also work brilliantly live. I'm keeping the faith on this one!
Plymouth does seem a strange choice for the July concert but it's wonderful to have the opportunity to see Meat play a small venue in the UK. It's just a pity he didn't choose Guernsey! :lmao:

testify is something 'different' it can only win meat more fans, plus some people only buy analbum once they've heard a few songs from it and it sounds good. Testify will help album sales

Maybe he could hire the island for a concert????/ will you put me up if he does???
Plymouth covered the south west fans and was IMO a great gesture to try to ensure all fans could get to a venue.....
I am so happy to hear the news that Testify will be released as a single I have worn out both this track and Tear Me Down since I got the album and have been saying to everyone over and over that I hoped either would be released as a single......wonder what will be with it would be great if it was a previously unreleased track

Oh, what GLORIOUS news to come here and find that Testify is the next UK single and BOY is set for the Germany and Holland!! :bunny:
Great choices!! Meat must be testing to see how each song does in both markets before releasing either song anywhere else!!
BOY is so easy to listen to. It should capture a LOT of peoples' hearts and do well in these markets!!
Eva's German website states that BOY will NOT have a video, though. And if that's true, there is great hope for one for Testify, I would think.
FireBall has told us that the funding for videos these days is very limited. So, perhaps the entire budget is going to one for Testify!! And this is GREAT news because if ever a song cried out to be an ML video, in the 'style' we all consider to be a Meat video, it was THIS one!!! Can't you just picture it?!! (Love the gospel choir idea, by the way!! )
I fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it and, like so many of you, feel THIS is the one which could go all the way to Number 1 around the world!!
I'm SO excited! I can't wait!!
I bet, in terms of promotion, that the time Meat IS in the UK in early July will be a busy one for him (aside for the 2 concerts), either doing promotions or getting them ready for the later release of both singles. I, too, had wondered why he was breaking up the first US leg of the tour by going to England in the middle, but now it all begins to make sense, doesn't it?!
Great news, friends! SO happy to get this today!! :bunny:
Thanks!
Love to all,

Because Of You would be well down my list of personal choices for singles (maybe I'm just nitpicking here). I have said elsewhere on this forum that I think it is one of the weaker songs on this album, but I'm sure Meat and his management know what they're doing (I've certainly got faith in them!).
My choice of singles would be (not necessarily all of these or in this order):
DIST (released in Germany, why not elsewhere?)
CHSIB (already released)
Man Of Steel
Testify
Tear Me Down
But MOST importantly, I hope that there are no problems with future singles as there was for CHSIB.
I hope to see more b-sides on the future singles. I remember someone saying there were 17 songs recorded for the album. If that were true, there might be one or two more if you include the Intermezzo and Crazy About A Mercury. Shadowland, written by Steve Earle, is the only other `unreleased' b-side I know of, and maybe another song by Diane Warren.

I am so excited to hear this news! I also think that Testify is more commercially appealing than CHSIB, it really just appeals to so many kinds of people and fans of differing musical styles. I envision ML at a tent revival in front of a massive gospel choir in purple robes for the chorus, with a sort of old Western feel for the rest of the song. I guess I get this idea from the "hellhounds on your trail" intro, but who knows where these images come from- my subconscious must be a disorganized and scary place.
Because of You is also a great choice, does anyone else think it odd that Germany has gotten more ballad-ish songs while England is getting the rockers? We all know that Germans can rock, whats up with that?
Now I am left wondering what singles will be released here in the States...

Did you guys check out the Lotto show on the ROL site, he was wearing that long coat there, and I absolutly love it.....
It's great that there are new singles coming out, but they do need videos if they are gonna be played on the tv stations....counts for Holland and Germany as well as UK
Just radio time is not enough, especially if you want to target the younger generation as well

2 more singles, hopefully with some unreleased stuff, so who am I to complain? It is just a bit frustrating that us Germans get the only weak track of the album, "Because Of You", while the UK gets glorious "Testify"?
Probably only fair as we have been very priveliged recently.
But why nou using some positive cross-influence when the same single is released everywhere?
Anyhow, that way it is up to you in the UK again!
Go, Testify, go!
Conclusion: This most likely means Testify :) and Because Of You :( will be in the setlist of the upcoming shows
That would suit me wonderfully as I adore both tracks :))) I can see that Testify might be a shade stronger as a single, but I think Because of You is a beautful song, and could well surprise all the doubting Thomases :))

I think so too, Michael.
I live in Holland, love BOY, but not as much as Testify.
In my opinion that song is SO special.
So I too say, Go Testify Go!!!
Great day to you,

Sorry Michael, I just can't seem to quote right. Will keep trying.
Well, IMO
2 good choices. Testfy should be a hit, BWTFDIK, people buy so much c.r.a.p today. The song is a great departure from Meat's usual style and he pulls it off magnificently. For those who might be interested, the old-time bit playing at the the beginning is O.J. Jones, according to Kasim.
As for BOY, as Jules said it really grabbed me at first. Guess that's why I use part as my sig, the lyrics are really catchy to me. Now, besides Tesify, my current favorite is LYOL, but I always like the more rocking songs.
Hope that the BOY single grabs the public like it hit me.

Hi T.!
I am 'learning' just how to quote here, so please forgive me I have done it wrong again.
Thank you for the info on Testify.
Could you please tell me what BWTFDIK means? :??: Or am I being really stupid here, doesn't matter, happens to me all the time!
As you know, I 'am going' for Testify. Had that from the very first time I heard the song.
But I also know a lot of people had the same about BOY!
IMO that may be one of the reasons for these releases. Hope both songs do really well. Very exciting times!
I will send you the Dutch release of BOY, will you send me the US release of Testify, please?
No serious, this is not a competition, we will see which song 'grabs' the general public, as long as they 'are grabbed', it's fine by me.
Great day to you,

I don't understand why different tracks are being chosen for the singles in different countries. Would it not be better to release the same single worldwide?
Do the record companies think that different types of songs are going to appeal to the record buying public in different places, eg. in Germany people prefer slower songs like DIST and Because of You and in the UK we prefer more upbeat tracks like CHSIB and Testify?

Cause it's business!
Every singer and band know they don't fight against the downloading programs. KaZaA won the suit against Sony. They know only the fans will buy the albums! And the fan will buy all CD. You will order the new single from Germany, GBr., USA, etc. Any you will pay more and more and more...

Hi, Sapphire Lady and White of High!
I remember hearing Meat talking about BOY in one of his recent interviews--how it was a middle-of-the-road, easy listening kind of song--something he's never really done before.
So, it might be that he, and/or the Record Company, are testing to see how this song will do in the German and Dutch markets. Both DIST and CHSIB probably, in the end, did not fair as well as they might have liked.
It also might be a test for Meat to see how both these particular songs do in their respective markets, in order to know which one to release in some of the other countries to come--including the States.
That's just a thought which occurred to me.
Interesting point, White, about selling more singles to fans this way. And it's true, of course. Fans these days will go anywhere to get different versions or different releases of the songs!! Hadn't really thought of it in that way before.
I was wondering and I'm sure that someone here will know the answer to this question: Which of Meat's albums had the most single releases from it? Was it Bat? Just curious. Perhaps, it's already been discussed before...
Thanks! :D
Love to all,

I think BOY is al very good choise! It's a song that you already like, when you hear it the first time and that kind of songs Meat needs to get a big Hit. Nowadays DJ's often only give attention to songs they like the first time they here it, certainly when it is from an artist who hasn't score big hits in the last few years. But Meat will strike back with this fantastic song!!

Testify is obviously deemed to be one of the stronger tracks. It was originally going to be the title track before Phil Collins got in there first, although I think CHSIB is far and away the best song on the album.

GREAT news about Testify being the next UK single as it's def my fave off the album. A great rocker! I can see a mad fiddle player and some Deliverance style hobos in the video...
My other choices of single would be Love You Out Loud and Tear Me Down (but then I'm a Hedwig fan so remember this song in it's original incarnation in that show). Both also great rockers.
Where I think Because of You could be very successful is because it's less of a rocker and, as someone said in a review, very Beatles-esque. It's instantly catchy but not off-putting for those NOT about to rock. A very simple and catchy song. I think it would do well here too.
Thing is, sadly, rock doesn't seem to sell so well here in the UK - our charts are very much a pop/dance/RnB market. Now our friends in Germany, they LOVE rock! So it all seems the wrong way round. Not that I'm complaining as I ADORE Testify. And anyway, I'm not in the music biz so what do I know!!! :??:
Also, the problem with singles is that they are not selling now. Sales of singles have plummeted in recent months alone and I think a video is necessary as well as any radio airplay these days. The market gets tougher...
As for Meat playing Plymouth, well, being a South Westerner at heart (though now London based) I'm thrilled artists of Meat's calibre and standing are heading down to the Westcountry for the fans. For so long we've been neglected and had to travel far and wide for our live music. Plymouth Pavilions has managed to pick up a lot of big-name acts to play there recently so it's going through something of a revival. It's a cool little venue, v dinky and lots of parking so nice. It's also a FAB little warm-up gig way out of London and the usual glare of publicity before his big headlining moment at the Party in the Park the day after. Thank you Meat, the SW fans salute you!!! :D
It's gonna be an exciting Meat year!
