View Full Version : Something For The Weekend

I mentioned this in another thread briefly but wanted to elaborate if I may.
So, Tim Lovejoy who presents Something For The Weekend was asked a few months ago on the same show (which for reasons I cannot fathom, I happened to be watching...its on Sunday mornings so I'm going to assume I had a hangover,) 'who has been the worst person you've interviewed'. He immediately said 'Meat Loaf' and went on to say about how he can't stand him because he's so 'in your face' and 'just wants to take over the whole show'. I gather Tim had previously interviewed Meat on his radio program.
First of all, Something For The Weekend NEEDS someone to take over it. It's beyond crap, and one of the most obvious examples of schedule-filler I've ever seen. Basically Tim mugs at the camera and laughs at his own jokes, he and his overshadowed co-hosts cook for a bit, then they show some old TV clips. Not exactly 'must-see'.
Second of all, Meat's appearance falls on Sunday the 18th - one day before the album's UK release. If this isn't a golden opportunity to make some headlines, I don't know what is.
Here's hoping Meat has something special planned...

no i think Tim Lovejoy is referring to Meat's appearance on Soccer Am a few years ago.
It was mentioned about him supporting Hartlepool so they called up Mike Newell (manager at the time) who appeared to be a bit bemused as to why they were calling him up, but if I remember it was at Meat's request.
The whole thing didn't come off very well, with the exception of Meat's football coach type speech to the Newcastle fans (the team had just been thrashed the previous week by Man Utd if i remember correctly)
I read in an interview subsequently that Lovejoy said that he felt Meat got the wrong impression of the show thinking it would just be zany

well I think just for that, Meat should be even more over the top than he usually is. That's what we love about him and what makes his interviews interesting. You can never accuse him of being boring to interview.

Absolutely right... although I have to say I am loving the interviews recently posted, especially some of the Australian ones, where they are quite laid back chats. Still, can't wait for him to get back on UK TV and cause some chaos :)
I hope Meat talks engagingly and passionately about the new album. I watch this show pretty regularly and my view is that the interviews are relaxed and the guests given plenty of time to talk. No need for anyone to cause chaos.
It's a useful vehicle for Meat to promote the album and I'm sure he'll take advantage of that. Wonder what he'll be cooking :)

Too right. No-one causes chaos on TV like Meat. I'm thinking back to when he did just that on Live And Kicking. Anyone remember his hilarious outburst at Trevor and Simon in the 'record store' because they never give the guests anything funny to say. He even nailed it by stealing their catchphrase as he led the other guests out saying "and one more thing - you don't do discs". Their feeble "He'll do anything for love but he won't stick to a script" response fell flat by comparison as everyone was still pissing themselves at Meat's rant.

The silent treatment would be another way to go.
"Yes Tim....*glare*...No Tim....I'm not taking over the show too much, am I Tim?" :P
One of my favourites was some show hosted by Patrick Kielty (I think around CHSIB time) and Lorraine Kelly was one of the other guests. She'd mentioned she'd ran in to Meat on the plane over and 'fancied him'. Patrick said 'Really?!'
Meat came out guns blazing and demanded to know what he meant by that. :P
I don't care what program format he tears apart in the process, Meat always makes an impression one way or another. I'll be hoping for nothing less.

Trevor and Simon should have broken through into adult tv. They could have been Ant and Dec 10 years earlier. "We don't do duvets!"

I thought they were kind of a low-rent Lee & Herring, back when they were still together.

Wow what a dick; very un-professional! He was absolutely hillarious when he was on loose women a few months back I love the fact he causes chaos

Thank you Netty !!
Thank you to Anji and Netty for the links.
Noteworthy laughter from me....esp. with the onion bit and tomato incident. ROFL!
Noteworthy awe moment for me: when he said he can do no better than this album and looking into his eye(s) (from my vantage point it was one eye from the side view; thanx camera guy!) when he said he was in love with his album.
