no you haven't missed it...Gerry Ryan was Mr Controversial when he started on Irish radio about 20 years ago...kinda like a watered down Howard Stern.

I remember Ryan interviewed Meat on his radio show just before Bat II was released.

Should be fun

"Following his father’s death, Meat discovered that one of the walls in his house was covered in press cuttings about Meat’s career. He told Gerry that he regards this as proof that his father really loved him."

I thought that was just part of the BS story that was the hell and back tv movie.

He began his interview with Gerry by asking that a pineapple be placed on the table between them. This, he claimed, was an ancient Aztec tradition that would ensure that only the truth could be spoken.

Meat does THAT and it's the part about his father that people focus on as the bullcrap? :lmao:

In the movie Leap Of Faith, bogus evangelist, Jonas Nightingale, has a regular bet with the band that he can fit all of their selected words/phrases into his sermon (illunium siding  ).
I think that years ago, at the height of his excess for alcohol and drugs, Meat made some pretty weird bets  with some friends about stuff he had to include interviews.
Although those days are behind him, he's still honor bound to complete his mission to bullshit his way through interview after interview until he has fulfilled every reference.

Any day now, a bottle of Jack Daniels will be delivered anonymously to Meat's house.
There will be a card stuck to the bottle saying "I never thought you'd do it, but you did it".

It opened in real player fine for me so dont know what to suggest.

For those who really still cant get it, you didnt really miss much its a small clip where Meat starts by saying that he wont put any artist down, and lists a bunch of artists who have done steinman songs, he said bonnie was prob the best of them though. He then went on to go on and on and on in a very round the houses complicated way about how each song/scene has prominant words and an artist could take it in 50 directions but if you dont pronounce and stress the right words then the audience will think your shite basically  i think thats what he was trying to say anyway, have to admit about half way thru i was starting to wonder where on earth he was going with this really long speach lol the guy asked about if he can make a song his iwn and he said about doing the sinatra song and then sinatra wouldnt touch it because he said meat owned the song, he laughed but the guy didnt seem too impressed lol

Thats pretty much it from what i can remember lol sorry, it wasnt a long clip and the thing about pronouncing words took up most of it

Didnt have time to read the text earlier lol so from what you guys have been saying i prob should ;)

Tom Dunne (another DJ) did the planet rock profile thing with Meat around the time of I Couldn't Have Said It Better and meat went on a few lengthy which confused me and kinda looked like they confused Mr Dunne as well.

So it wouldn't surprise me if this was the same

I like those interviews with Meat. He speaks his mind most of the time, fair enough it may just be waffling, whatever. But I think he's a very interesting person to listen to when he's given some interesting questions at least (not the frikking "how you got your name/why did you record IACBTMN stuff"). I'll definitely be watching this if someone puts the whole thing on the web.

right just watched it and took down notes but it'll take me a while to write thm up.
basically he said he goes straight from song to song no dily dallying. He puts on a funny country accent and pretended to be a singer, talking about a song. ' And this one is about my Blue truck that I ran over my dog with... (something like that he waffled a little) he wanted to get across he doesn't talk too much between songs and when other singers do it annoys him.
He is still friends with Jim Steinman, wanted him to have as much attention as he did. when Meat lost his voice Jim sang and when Meat re recorded them it showed just how good he was. The songs didn’t live unless you sany them – Gerry to Meat., Meat replies I made those songs live, but Jim wrote them - compares it to an actor interpreting a script a writer has written.

Siobhan
12 Sep 2008, 00:54
cuts to Dead ringer video, Meat says 'Its All about scene study, youre breaking down the scene as an actor – need to project the words properly to make audience feel overwhelmed'
then says about live shows, 'I adore performance adore audiences, I work for the audience. Audiences are super intelligent whether they understand it or not. They might scream and yell and you might do the 'look' and the whoop but they know when your not real – I have to like it before thay can like it. If I get thrown off my routine before show I get real paniky'

Narattor: Began career as an actor - rhps to fight club, uses his skill in his live shows he is demented, possessed by some outside force when acting on stage (about paradice)

'I'm about theatre not theatrics.'
about his shows, 'Its greek and operatic; not roman, not English, not American, it is greek'

Play actors writer director good when in theatre
Feels like your out of body like your floating on stage. You have been connected with these actors

'I don't remember what my mother looks like as it was too dramatic when she died.' He doesn’t forgive himself for not being there. The only thing he remembers about his father is a fist fight when Meat broke his ribs and once after when he was very ill. He attacked meat with a knife but Meat said his dad didn’t remember until someone reminded him?!

When he went back to dads house the whole wall was a Meat Loaf shrine made by his dad – 'It was his was of showing me he really can forgive me and like he was saying that he really did see I could do something good and worthwhile with his life.

Siobhan

he is always thinkng about his voice. 'Its the first thing I think of when I wake up or if I go to the toilet in the night I think about it. It runs my life. Voice is a very stage thing, you can imagine it like a thread running from your foot to your head if its not connected to your head and brain you can’t sing.

Gerry mentions Newcastle incident and retireing and Meat replies, 'I’m a nice guy, My mother taught me to be polite and to have manners. I always say thounk you. I don’t put my position above any one elses, I'm very grateful.'
Tell me if its not good appreciates when people say soetings good

About vocal coach shows clip from in search of paradice
Vocal coach gives him a comfort zone. 'I'm not running on chance anymore in the last 7 months. I said before I'm retiring, retireing, retiring but know as long as I can keep the connection I'm gonna keep on going.'

Gerry says 'You don’t look like you giving up'

Meat replies with this 'joke';
There is a Guy working in circus cleaning up after the elephants and every day he complains about it. His friend says every day you complain about it, why don’t you just quit?
they guy replies 'and what? give up show buissiness?!'

Cut to clips of shows with Meat saying 'And don’t you ever ever stop rocking!' from 3 Bats Live

100 million record sales:D
all the papers in ireland had meat in them, they said the same 100 million sales
40 million sales for bat:D
it was a good interview

allrevvedup
12 Sep 2008, 22:45
where did the other 60 million albums come from?

Bat was estimated to have sold something like 35 million or so...anyway all of these things are estimated because they cannot come up with a true figure for total world sales.

AndrewG
12 Sep 2008, 23:21
I'd say 100 million is about right, everything in total, maybe a bit fluffied up, but not far off. Certainly if you were to include all those different compilation discs that have been around. You would definitely cross the 75 million mark by my count.

Ok I was watching Meat Loaf on RTÉ with Gerry Ryan the other night. I thought he was totally out of it. I mean there is no doubt in my mind he was drunk, and anyone that seen it would agree. He looked like he couldn't keep his eyes open, and his speech in my opinion was slurry. He wasn't exhausted or anything he was just drunk. I also noticed a few bottles on the table well the interview was taking place. But I actually thought Meat Loaf didn't drink anymore?? Post your opinions please.

Didn't see entire interview but from the clip...typical Meat? No?

djfierce
15 Sep 2008, 00:03
i think it was typical meat, he either talks crap and has badly boring interviews like when promoting bat3 on many shows, or he has wildly funny ones. I think that clip bored the hell out of me but he just seemed to be going on and on and on, and meat can do that very well given half a chance which this guy obviously did. I watched the clip again to look for these bottles and watch meat more closely and i could make out a wine bottle and a couple of what seem to be water bottles, i may be wrong as i havent seen the whole show but thats what i make of that small clip.

MeatGrl1

The clip I DL showed absolutely no signs of Meat being drunk and I think it's outrageous to even think that, you can't tell me that when your thinking of what to say or recalling things don't require you to move your eyes or head a certain way, Meat's voice didn't sound slurred and he looked focused and on the ball, if he were drunk he would not of made much sense what so ever and he would have glazed over eyes.

Personally I am sick of coming here and reading such outrageous and wrong facts, if you know the accusation to be a bare fact then fine I can accept that but to just accuse really annoys me.

Emma, chill out...

i haven't seen the interview so i don't know whether he was drunk or not, but at the same time if someone thinks he was drunk so be it, it's not that outrageous.

if meat decided to have a drink to relax more so be it, he was probably doing a ton of radio, press and tv interviews anyway that which would tire anyone out.

The style of ryan confidential is something that looks beyond the basic questions and answers, and goes for a bit more depth

Siobhan
15 Sep 2008, 00:30
like I said before my brother thought he was drunk but I thought he was his usual self and maybe he did have a little drink to loosen up before being questioned but it doesn't really matter he didn't do anything outrageous or make a fool of himself

djfierce
15 Sep 2008, 00:30
lmao like we couldnt see this convo going like this...to be absolutely fair Em, it's alot down to perception when you dont know the fact...i dont think he looked drunk, but then i dont think he looked exactly on the ball.
I personally am not bothered either way, that clip was bloody boring whether he was drunk or not imo, but then i have come to expect extremes with Meat :p

bottom line is....no-one but Meat (and Ryan i guess) know the facts so nobody here can claim which is true, we can just speculate and argue and insult each other which will entertain us no end i'm sure

I did not mean to cause upset just it annoys me that without solid proof it is unfair and unjust to throw accusations like that. Not saying that he hasn't had a drink mabe he has but not to the excess that was suggested.

 I seem to remember a mention about Meat, TV, and alcohol from some time ago  (just one of those things that sticks).

A little search later shows that Meat did an interview for Q magazine in June 2003, in which he said he drinks tequila before TV interviews because he gets nervous doing TV stuff.

I haven't seen the interview, so I can't comment, but if he was talking about his dad (which has always been a pretty hard subject to deal with, seeing what he went through) I think a couple of belts might have been in order (if not bloody obligatory).

So perhaps Meat DID have a couple of drinks, but I don't think he'd ever drink so much he couldn't handle what was going on.

For instance I can't see Meat ever getting in this state..................
