As I type this, Meat has just finished playbacking Paradise on the Dutch Lottery Show.... and I must say... this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen and heard.
First he playbacked his way through Couldn't Have Said it Better (and if that version was the single edit... it rocks!), which was an acceptable performance, but then Paradise...
From the moment I heard the intro I was baffled. It was the regular album version.... so first you hear Meat doing the new stuff, and then right back to 1977! It was shocking just to hear how much his voice has changed (for the better IMO), and you must have been deaf not to notice difference. Oh and did I mention that he missed his first line and had to take a sprint to the mike? Patti was miming along just like Karla once did, to Ellen's vocals, and Mark Alexander was at the piano. No sign of Paul, John, Kasim, John and Sarah.
Since every disadvantage has its advantage (like Johan Cruyff once said) it was notable that they did the full version of Paradise, including the play-by-play, which had a nice cameo appearence of the album cover :-)
My verdict: could've been a lot better (play live, but I guess that just wasn't possible), but at least the people over here know now that Meat has a new album out (although the name wasn't mentioned)
