I saw Neil Diamond in Birmingham on 28th June.

He was good and I enjoyed the show but I didn't get that 'wow' feeling that I was hoping to get from seeing someone I've liked for so long. I'll admit that the best concert I've ever been to was on my mind and I kept thinking that Neil wasn't capturing my attention like a certain someone did.

The same thing happened to me when I saw Huey Lewis on July 19th, the night after I had seen Meat at the Count Basie Theatre. I used to get that 'wow' feeling from them, but it actually a little bit of a let down after the amazing concert the night before

Chicago, they were phenomenal, the sound was beyond anything I've ever heard in a live concert (I've not seen Meat in concert). It was a semi-small outdoor venue and they were awesome.

Around the same time I saw Crosby, Stills and Nash, who haven't changed in years, they sounded fabulous.

 Jo and I saw Bill Bailey at the Liverpool Echo Arena last night.
Great view from the front row

Highlights of the night were when Bill performed Hallelujah in the style of Kraftwerk, and when one of his horns went a bit funny when he was playing a tune on a collection of old fashioned car horns. He played the song twice but the horn hit a flat note on both occassions. The crowd loved it and Bill was laughing his head off and ended up slumping to the floor in a fit of giggles and hiding under a large cloth in mock shame.
He went for it a third time and played the song all the way through perfectly and got a big round of applause for it.
Great night watching a very funny guy 8)

He didn't have a very long set (Or maybe I'm just spoilt by Meat & AC/DC ) because he's had a few heart issues in the last couple of years and I'm guessing he may not have had the insurance to cover going longer, or possibly due to the venue licence, after all it was in a zoo in the middle of the city lol.

He did a few Cold Chisel numbers, some of his really well known solo stuff but no Stone Cold. All in all it was a really good show.

The Set List:

Love & Hate
Time Will Tell
I'd Die To Be With You Tonight
Lover Lover
Merry Go Round
Flame Trees
Lay Down Your Guns
Dead Heart
Ride The Night Away
You Got Nothin' I Want
Resurrection
I'm Still On Your Side
Driving Wheels
Working Class Man

I just got home from Florence and the Machine, and boy do I owe Meat a thanks for that.

If he hadn't mentioned how good she was in an interview somewhere at some stage I honestly never would have gone. A lot of my friends like her, but I never bothered.

Well, I've been missing out. What a fantastic, amazing voice! She had that whole place like putty in her hands, literally if she said jump they jumped ha ha.

Even I was completely mesmerized by what was going on up on the stage. My aunty was noticing all sorts of things that were happening in the crowd and the line that went past us, but me? I didn't notice any of that.

She went off befoe the encore, gouged a massive hole in her foot backstage, was carried back onto the stage and finished the encore. She still managed to dance around, but had to be carried back off.

She was fantastic, chatting with the crowd and just genuinely having fun. She kept saying "This place is so big, there are so many of you here..." Lol

I'm glad I went.

The concert was amazing. He can still rip it up! His music was the soundtrack of my childhood and I'm so glad I went. Just hearing all the Jimmy Webb songs was enough for me. Glen sang my favorite Webb song, "The Moon's a Harsh Mistress." It was a music moment for sure. If Campbell comes close to your area I would say it's a MUST SEE.

So far this year besides Simple Minds, Jeff Scott Soto, Danny Vaughn(!), FM and Heat there were some SteinMeat-related ones here in Germany too:
The Darkness and Rock Meets Classic (with Bonnie Tyler alongside Paul Rogers, Chris Thompson (MM Earth Band) and Journeys Steve Augeri).

And Pink, Rick Springfield, Roger Hodgson, Bruce Springsteen, Toto, Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams (don`t blame me, have to do him for my wife) to come.

Showing off to proof that there are us fans not just single-minded focused on Meat.

But bottom line is most multiple Meat-nights give me way more "erections of the heart" (stolen from Jim) than any other gig!

It was so good, and the way Bruce caught the crowd out with it was brilliant!

He'd only done a couple of songs before he was doing requests from signs and it seemed really early, then he says "so, we can continue to take signs and do requests....or we can give you Darkness On The Edge Of Town from start to finish" - everyone went mental, it was so brilliant as clearly no-one was expecting him to say it!!

Of course the grass is always greener isn't it? I rarely see a set list from a Bruce show I wasn't at and not think "I wish I'd been there to hear that" ... but then looking at the set lists for the shows I have been at "I'm glad I was there to hear that"

I agree; I haven't been to a show yet where I didn't get at least a few gems. Of course, the setlist is only a part of the picture, and some of my favorite shows have had very "standard" setlists. I've seen almost every song I've really wanted to see at this point anyway. But still, every now and then there's that setlist that makes you go

A prime example being Coventry getting the Born To Run album, which means they got Jungleland and Backstreets!

If I were there, I'm sure I would have loved it, but I saw BTR twice, and I seemed to be a Backstreets magnet for a while, so I wouldn't have been gutted to miss that one. Of course, at this point, I'd be happy just to see a show- ANY show. :|

I'm the exact opposite - I seem to always get Racing In The Streets rather than Backstreets...stunning every time but I'd give anything for Backstreets, we had it for our wedding music (that and R&R Dreams, it was a Bittan-fest! ) and I've managed to never see it live!

I find it so funny and interesting how it works out sometimes, how you might see one song often that other people are chasing, and vice versa. There seems to be somewhat of a geographical component to it as well.

The last (Dream) Tour, I got "Kitty's Back" three times out of six shows, and that song's somewhat rare.

I wanted "Incident" in the worst way, and I always seemed to miss it by a show. I finally saw it when he played the WIESS album in full, but I gave up getting it as a surprise, and since then I've seen it twice, both solo performances.

The only song I'm wishing for now is "The Promise".

Good luck getting "Backstreets" btw. ;)

The exceptionally brilliant Kenny Rogers.

This was the second time we've seen him, he'd obviously aged since 2009 (haven't we all!) and I think appeared tired from Glastonbury, but he was absolutely outstanding yet again.

He is effortless, it almost looks like he's not bothered but the voice coming out is perfect! Extremely funny too, he had the audience in stitches...a wonderful night from a true gentleman

Seeing Bruce yesterday in Mönchengladbach/Germany:
Can one of the many diehards here tell me about "Trapped"? Which album?
Also loved the powerfull live versions of Man`s Job and Mary`s Place.
Was bored at the start, sound was bad, daylight didn`t help, but he and his band of 16(!) finally won me over again. And there still is some Bat relation in the band plus some of the piano-parts sounding like Jim they could have come from genius Jim. :-)

We saw Bon Jovi last month in Cologne too. I know of his reputation being an a...hole and he may be one the way he handles Richie Samborra (which probably only few insiders can really judge). And he is less the genuine performer like Springsteen, more American showman. But he can put on one hell of a show! And he deserves more credibility, changing setlists and even variations inside songs massively from night to night. BTW, obviously singing live for the most part. Bottom line: over-the-top! :D

Another highlight has been Toto, closer "Home Of The Brave" being worth attending alone. :D

Not everything this year was great though, don`t ask me about Whitesnake or Rihanna...

Seeing Bruce yesterday in Mönchengladbach/Germany:
Can one of the many diehards here tell me about "Trapped"? Which album?

Trapped is a cover from Jimmy Cliff. Bruce and the band started to play it during the River tour. One of the very very few covers which regularly still comes back. Probably because the Bruce arrangement is pretty strong I think.

Mick. Keith. Charlie and Ronnie aka The Rolling Stones at an average age of 69 they knocked it out of Hyde Park tonight.

A live version recorded on the River Tour can be found on the bonus disc of "The Essential Bruce Springsteen" set. I love seeing it live; it's one of the few songs I remember him playing the first time I saw him, also on the River Tour.

I think you have that reversed; the Bat parts came from genius Roy. ;)

Are you talking about Bruce or Bon Jovi mixing up setlists and arrangements? I don't know about JBJ, but Bruce is a master at both of those things.

Bruce, again two nights running. Cardiff and Leeds. Incredible, memorable nights both of them.

You wait 30 odd years for Roulette and then two come along :yay:

Leeds First Direct Arena is a fantastic venue, would have loved to have seen Meat in there, but that that seems unlikely now sadly.

I actually want to join the E Street Band.

They just get better and better, Bruce's energy continues to shock everyone, and he's extremely funny too! Roy Bittan's as legendary as ever, and Jake Clemons is rapidly becoming one of my favourite people on the planet...he's outstanding!

Highlight was at Cardiff...we were stood on the barrier at the head of one of Bruce's platforms that he walks out onto. During Spirit In The Night (which is one of my favourites anyway!) Bruce brought Jake down onto the platform, lots of handshakes from both of them, then they laid down! So there's Jake - with sax - laid on his back on the left, Bruce on his back on the right, and us in the middle! Thought I'd gone to heaven

Personally, I wish I had gotten to see this- just stunning:

If I Should Fall Behind was, without question, one of the best vocals I have ever heard.

Got to point out to anyone that clicks Play on that clip...this song was performed AFTER the encore, so Bruce has already got over 3 hours under his belt when he starts this! Unreal...

Highlight of Leeds for me was Atlantic City and Shackled and Drawn

I've seen two shows in the last week or so:

The first was "Frampton's Guitar Circus", featuring Peter Frampton as the headliner, with Sonny Landreth and B.B. King as his support acts. Frampton also had a couple of guests during his set- Larry Carlton and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. Peter's son Julian also came out to sing lead on "I Want You to Want Me" and "Surrender" while Nielsen was on stage. Julian has a great voice- sounds a bit like his Dad. "Surrender" was a blast, with most of the crowd singing along. :D My only complaint was that I wish Frampton's set was longer- he played for about 90 mins.

B.B. King is really showing his age, and he didn't play too much, but he still managed to entertain the crowd. Frampton guested with him on "The Thrill is Gone": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Idq2yqeG-Xc

The other show I saw was Keith Urban in Indianapolis. He also had two support acts- Dustin Lynch, and Little Big Town. Keith puts on a great live show, and he didn't disappoint. He has a new album out in a couple of weeks, and he's been playing a couple of songs from it- "A little Bit of Everything" and "The Stars Fall For You". I love the lighting designs this tour as well.

Since he was in Indiana, Keith had to play some Mellencamp, so he brought out Larry Crane from Mellencamp's band for "Authority Song":

And because I know duke knooby is wondering, ;) yes, there were banjos! :-) http://youtu.be/ytZv0uVNr-M

Meat's Oct. 27, 2012 MMWT Mohegan Sun Arena. I managed to score M&G tickets and got front row seats. It was an awesome show! I told him his Native American name should be, SingingWolf NeverShutsUp. He insisted on the NeverShutsUp part... lol. He told me he could drive me insane, because he can't stop talking. I told him that he couldn't possibly make me nutty and then he replied that I've never been with him on a three hour car ride... lol.

I was so bummed, when he said, he wasn't touring anymore.

I saw Bon Jovi this Saturday. I initially wasn't planning to go at all, but I had a change of heart at the last minute and got crappy seats for $30 two hours before the show. He played far too much of his newer stuff (which doesn't hold a candle to anything before Crush, imo), but the performance itself was really, really good. The stage was awesome, too. Very well done :D

Kicking myself for not going the second night, though. They got Dry County and These Days :(

My favourite part was when he tried to get the crowd to sing along to Because We Can with just his acoustic, and everyone just awkwardly clapped and laughed because no one knew the song :D
