Default Which songs from this album will be in Steinman's musical

I'm anticipating a Soundtrack album for the new musical so it'll be interesting to hear some of these songs done again.
Are there some Braver than we Are tracks in the musical or is it all stuff from the 3 Bat albums?

Nothing on Braver is in the musical. if it was it wouldn't be on the record due to contracts.

Songs maybe not...melodies very possibly. Considering at least part of Who Needs The Young has repeatedly turned up in Steinman's theatrical work (The Dream Engine, Neverland, Tanz) in either lyrical or musical form, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few recognisable parts of the album if not the actual songs from the album.

I'll be more surprised if the melody from Godz/Boleros of Fire doesn't appear than I will be if it does.

LOL As someone who has no care for the musical I can only say it in a general matter.

If people have nothing to say because they are not allowed to say anything, why bother posting they can't share?

We get it, you have inside info, Whooperdiewhoop for you.

And I don't mean that to (just) you TWG. But in general. " I know the answer but I can't share" and "I've got news but I can't tell" (or the best one) " I have a source who told me about the situation, but he asked me not to share so I can't share it with you" and all that stuff, it's only said to please one own's ego and has no value at all for others.

At least that's my opinion

Nice opinion. Wrong, but nice.

So, why post? Because:

A, it points people in the right direction without having to spell it out for you (which I really can't do).

And B, 'because I can'.

I'm not interested in ego and, as you put it, any of the 'Whooperdiewhoop' that comes with it. It's just fun, and while I've got time to post on this forum (something that's got to come to an end quite soon, unfortunately, as I've got a lot to focus on in the coming months writing-wise), I want to give out as much as I can without getting myself into some serious shit.

RE: All my posts (for the most part) -- Read. Between. The lines.

A good twist would be it's ALL in there. lol joking not likely due to the BODY sirtuation.

I'd be surprised if Who Needs the Young? isn't in the show. I don't expect Going as of course it's a huge part of Tanz der Vampire, one of the most successful European musicals of the last 20 years, I see very little crossover with that show (so no OBJECTS either?). Now did Meat choose the songs for BTWA or Jimmy, that is the question.

I was wrong about Paradise by the Dashboard Light though, the last fortnight's press releases leaked* that's in there, remember there are over 20 songs in BAT, a lot more I think than in any of Meat's concerts.

I reckon the show will feel more akin to a movie reboot than whatever has gone before - while the idea sounds similar the Peter Pan references seem to have been stripped away, the songs will have all new arrangements too; I'm looking forward to Rundgren's harmony pieces

*leaked is a much jucier way of saying revealed

"Who Needs The Young" was definitely in there as of Jim's blogging about the musical several years ago. At that time, Jim also said 15 songs from Bat and Bat II, plus a handful (he said 3, but it depends on your definition of "new") of new ones, would form the backbone of the score. And at another point, he alluded happily to finding a spot for "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," which otherwise didn't fit in the show at that time.

In fact, rather than trying to recollect off the top of my head, let me go back to his blogging and construct a rough list of everything he's said about songs and sequences. It may have changed since then, as Pete (my pal TWG) may Best tell us ( ), but it will give us a starting point for discussion. Watch this space!

According to TheWriterGuy A LOT has changed since the blogging a decade ago - this is no longer using the Neverland/Peter Pan naming - also t he website says OIVER TWENTY SONGS we know DeadRinger and All Coming Back are included.

Its fair game. its so exciting and I just cannot wait for the show to start!!

I was hoping to perform a 'double act', but Adje refused to share a bed with me (a la 'Morecambe and Wise', obviously -- what else did you think I was talking about???). If you're not British, or weren't alive pre 1985 at the very least ... yeah, I'm sorry

Well, the process that makes covers possible (at least right now, though people -- both songwriters and artists -- have fought to change it for years) is a mechanical license. If it's been released in the U.S., all they have to do is pay the so-called "mechanical" fee to the publisher in order to record a song. "Body," however, has not been released on an album in the U.S. to date, and would still require at least Jim listening to the track and giving it a thumbs up. (Which I have no doubt he'd do, mind you.)

That basic legal construct, incidentally, is why Meat was able to be stopped from recording "All Coming Back" for Neighborhood back in the Nineties with an injunction, but once Celine released it, he was fair game to cover it ten years later. (And also why Meat could record "Original Sin" for the same album. Taylor Dayne had just released her version, and this opened the floor.)

My guess, if I was forced to make one, is that maybe someone associated with the musical would prefer it to be heard in the musical first, as opposed to being yet another Meat Loaf song now appearing in a musical. But it's only a guess, and further I feel it's incredibly short-minded of that person (or those persons) if that is indeed the case. The benefit of publicity for the musical far outweighs the consideration of exclusivity.

You never heard about that? It's mentioned in this article from 1997 (relevant portion quoted):

Quote:
[Jim] considers his songs his children, and he is fiercely protective of them, to the extent that he successfully sought an injunction against Meat Loaf to prevent him from recording "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" because he thought it was more appropriate for a woman.
Of course, once Celine's version was released, it entered "mechanical fee" territory, as I describe above, and all Meat (and/or his people) had to do was pay the publisher, and it could be on any album he wanted. There's a precedent of people in Jim's camp (and sometimes Jim himself) wanting songs to go to specific people and places, which is why I think both factors might be playing a role in "Body's" non-presence on Braver.

I remember reading that article ages ago.

I think if it is something like that, then I can see both sides. Many would have liked it to be a Meat song, but if Jim does want some new material to be heard for the "1st time" (discounting the live performances and Dream Engine performances) in the musical, I don't think there can be a song better than Body.

Dude meat has said here himself the producer of the musical asked why body wasn't on the record.

After BAT 2, they could have had half of BAT 3 with this, right?
"ORIGINAL SIN"
"LEFT IN THE DARK"
"IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW"
"BAD FOR GOOD"
"THE FUTURE AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE"

Very interesting.

if bat 3 was:
  1. Seize the Night
  2. Bad For Good
  3. Break It
  4. In the land of the Pig (the Butcher is King)
  5. Its All Coming back To Me Now
  6. What Part of My body hurts the Most?
  7. More
  8. The Future Isn't What it used To Be
  9. Souvenirs
  10. Going all the Way is Just the Start
  11. Cry to Heaven
  12. Blind as a Bat [Bonus Track]

That wouldve been massive.
