Default Rank the Braver Songs from Greatest to Least!

  • Going all the Way - PERFECTION.
  • Souvenirs - should've been the closer fantastic song and deep as hell
  • Dirty Job - beautiful cover!!! Great vocals
  • More - catchy and its decent when you think of cat woman ir the joker singing it.
  • Speaking in Tongues - beautiful but doesn't really go anywhere. Love the bridge!!
  • Godz - should've just been an instrumental imo. The lyrics aren't strong enough.
  • Train of Love - one of Jims weakest songs alas always thought this.
  • Only When I Feel - the vocals I understand emotion but the vocals still have to sound good.
  • Who Needs The Young - this is a love or hate song. Sadly I don't love it at all.
  • Skull Of Your Country - first part is great, why not keep the original instrumental? The total eclipse portion is terrible and ruins what was a fantastic start

Your turn!

Whole lot first listen.

Who needs the young - crazy wow!
Going all the way - unbelievable. 4 mins edit ruins it.
Speaking in tongues - perfection.
Loving you - was always a little known fave despite Todds vocal. This version blows it out completely.
Souvenirs: dowloadedvit a week ago, love it, played to death and still getting to grips with it.
Will post more as I hear it but so far found tears on my face with an inane grin at braver (gatw) and dirty job.
A shame "only when I feel" doesn't make the most of a darker "break it" but Justin makes it great.
More just coming on...

Wow again!

Going all the way
Loving you is a dirty job
Souvenirs
speaking in tongues
Godz
Only when I feel
Skulls of your country ("turn around" bridge ruins it for me)
More
Who needs the young
Train of love

Gotta say that the last four on my list are songs that I don't like

Can't. Simple as that. It's like being asked to rate your children in order. Yes Going All The Way is for me Jim's masterpiece...everything from music, through lyrics to production is flawless. But for me, I'm very much on board with Meat's opinion that the album is a whole.

It's a classic narrative and over the last couple of month's I've seen more and more why certain songs are in certain places.

The theatrics of Who Needs the Young takes everything of the song in all the previous versions and adds in all the effects and completely off the wall madness it needs.

The combination of Godz and Skull are a frightening prophetic vision of the world we live in considering when they were written, and again, the production of Godz and Meat's vocal just tear it up. I really like the Turn Around section of Skull too...it tightens in what was a little bit of a rambling original demo.

Train, fitting with Meat's 19 year old finding who they are approach, I really like as a closer. I feel like so much has happened during the last 40 odd minutes that I don't know who I am or what I believe in either. That song sums it up perfectly.

I've always loved the vocal on Only When I Feel. There's something Frankensteinish about it. But that was Meat's original love it or hate it from the album. I don't miss Break It being attached at all now.

Souvenirs is just an emotional tour de force. Can't fault it at all.

Speaking in Tongues was always a good song....the bridge turns it into a great song. It doesn't go anywhere...it goes somewhere then comes back home.

And that leaves More, which after reading all that back is actually my weakest...by which I would give it 8 out of 10. i've heard all the versions of More and it has just never been a great song to me but I gauge songs by my need to skip them every time they come on. I don't want to do that with More or any of the others so other then picking out the reasons i love each one, I just couldn't put them in any preference order because I feel like once I start the album I have to listen to them all or feel cheated.

Yeah, too early for me to say. But I love the way Godz segues into Skull. Who Needs The Young is amazing. Twisted, bitter vaudeville. I ~~~~ing love it.

Can't "rank the songs" .. Have listened to it twice now; for me it's a whole, each song playing its role in making that whole greater than the sum of its parts. And I am swept away and love the entire piece

I haven't heard all the songs yet but I'll list the ones I have heard for now.

1. Speaking in Tongues
2. More
3. Going All The Way
.
.
.
4. Who Needs the Young
5. Only when I feel
6. Train of Love
.
.
.
.
.
.
7. Souvenirs

I can't stand souvenirs. That's some of the worst production I've ever heard and Meat sounds terrible. This song really anoys me because the middle part has some really great lyrics but the rest is just garbage and dosent make since. That's just my opinion though.

I don't know if I can rank them yet (or ever?), but Going All the Way has brought tears to my eyes several times, and I am blown away by More (interesting that some dislike it! Different strokes).

I quite like More too. I really like how Only when I feel merges into that. Wasn't expecting that at all. For me personally it works better than hearing break it at that point. Really dig the industrial electronic rock backing.

In all honesty I don't think I can rank the songs in order. Love them all.
Impossible to rank ....

So my answer is every song touches me in different ways. I smile with some... I tear up with others... Souvenirs ...resonates with me.. it makes me feel things I am unable to explain as a woman..... Who Needs The Young.... lol...love it!!!!!!

AFL.... Meats voice is so......hot on that version.

Love it all.... Brilliant...

I realise that this is history in the making... we are living this right here..right now... amazing!!!

Thank you for this beautiful gift Meat and everyone who worked on it.

1) Speaking In Tongues - I always loved this song and thought it had tremendous potential, but it seemed unfinished when during 'The Dream Engine' shows. It reaches its potential with this release.

2) Going All The Way - A Steinman Classic. I always thought it would be if it was ever released on a major album. I will comment that Meat is often completely overpowered by Ellen and Karla, both of whom can still belt it out like never before.

3) More - Of all the remaining Steinman songs I think this suits Meats current voice the most. Kind of like 'Land Of The Pigs' or 'Break It'. I like this version the most out all the versions I've heard. It seems to be based on the version from 'Wuthering Heights', which is a close 2nd.

4) Godz - I've always loved this song. Both in instrumental and vocal form. Even though the lyrics are not Jim's best I still like them as they ask an interesting question.

5) Loving You's a Dirty Job - I think this version is at least equal to Bonnie's. It's different enough without being a completely different arrangement.

6) Only When I Feel - I love this song, would love to hear that 'perfect' version though.

7) Who Needs The Young - I never though thought this song could be made suitable for a major release, I was proven wrong.

Souvenirs - See previous

9) Skull Of Your Country - Interesting, but it seems like a work in progress (which it was).

10) Train Of Love - I'm with Wario on this one. This is one of Jim's most un-noteworthy songs. IMO, not the best songs to finish the album on.

So by that tally I gotta give it a solid 8/10.

Plus that demo of AFL is mint. Probably my favourite version now.

#2 I think it was the point that the girls took over meat. It's how yhis version works so well.
#4. Not Steinmans best? Who can really argue with cannons and fire? Not me!
Something I will accept is that there is scope for something else between skull and TOL.
That shouldnt detract from the song itself -and I could see it as a show closer easily, but it seems to stand a little apart from the general flow of the album if I'm being very, very critical.
The record does need the texture that it ultimately provides though IMHO.

The best 5
1. Loving You is a Dirty Job
To bad it was allready a single for Bonnie. This song is classic all over it. New arrangement is even better than the original. I just love this song!

2. Going All The Way
Great new song! I rather heard Meat a little more better over Ellen en Karla but overall I love the track!

3. Train of Love
A lot of people don't like this one. I really like the song on this album. Are the lyrics typical Steinman. No. But if I listen to this song, my mood gets better. Great track with good vocals!

4. More
I'm a Sisters of Mercy fan. So it is a bit difficult to listen to this one. It's the third version i hear (after the Wuthering Heights MTV version, a movie with Steinman music I really love). I think it's a great track but it's more a Sisters than a Steinman track. I really thought that Steinman only did production on it with some additional lyrics.

5. Speaking in Tongues
The ballad. I'm more a uptempo guy but this is a great song. The "Queen choir" is a nice touch.

The lesser 5
6. Who Needs The Young
It's a great musical song but I think it doesn't work so well on this album. Maybe as a track to open the album (1,5 minutes or so) but I think it takes to long.

7. Souvenirs
Great song. Why in the bottom? I think the production isn't very good. There is something wrong with the production of Meat's voice. It sounds like too much autotune. I believe he doesn't used it but the quality of the sound cracks a little bit. It annoys the hell out of a great tune.

8. Godz
For me a filler. Just waiting for the next track.

9. Only When I Feel
10. Skull of your Country
These songs doesn't sound finished. We know that "Only when I Feel" used to be longer but I think the song misses some climax. It runs very nicely in More. But I think the second part of Skull doesn't work on album.

Only thing about the master piece that is "Going All The Way" is that the end starts to get repetitive, I think they could've took a minute or so off.
