She did at least 3 solo albums (Night Out, Spirit of St. Louis, and one other) and appeared on several other albums as backup singer (Bad For Good, Bat II)

Wasn't she an actress now?

Got a beautifull bootleg of Ellen Folley, performing in 1980 in Amsterdam!! Great one it is.

And did know she made some solo albums, but then.... it was quiet around here.

I LOVE Ellen Foley. The other solo album of hers is "Another Breath". Those three songs you mentioned are all off her album "Night Out" and oh boy is it cool. One of my all time favourite songs "Don't Let Go" and I get Nightout stuck in my head all the time.

She was also part of jim Steinman's Pandora's Box. She sings Twentieth Century Fox and My Little Red Book the two cover versions) and does a great great great rendition of "The Want Ad" and "The Invocation" (Steinman penned spoken pieces.)

I wish Jim would make a best of with her... It could include the entire Night out album, the best bits of her other two albums, the Want Ad, the awesome live version of Heaven can Wait she did on her early eighties tour (fish it out - it's available on the net and is brilliant) and then a few new Steinman ones (like old Steinman songs she could do produced by Steinman).

As far as I'm concerned she is the collest of any Steinman or Meat chicks. I wish she'd release more.

Yeah - pandora's box is a winner...

Do you mean that Ellen sings the Vampires in Love Demo? Because that is actually sung by Elaine Caswell... (the chick who sings It's All Coming Back To Me Now... and the demo of Braver Than We Are which I hope ends up on Bat 3).

If you haven't got it already I strongly suggest you find her singing Heaven Can Wait live. My god is it cool. Search for "Smeghead's Meat Loaf collection" I *think* he has it. She introduces the song by saying it's by one of "her friends" Jim Steinman. Well I wish she'd give that friend of hers a ring and make some songs!

BTW : I'd also include Paradise by the Dash on that best of. Left that one out accidently.

I think she was appearing in a movie, Tootsie with Dustin Hoffman & Jessica Lang. I didn't find her but she was there!!!

No, just that it's the current Now Playing track on my playlist. Actually - it's from a bootleg of the show.

But back to topic: I found this website, with some more info on Ellen. Hoplessly outdated, but it's something.

She played a part in an early nineties comedyserie called Night Court.

Ahhh... too cool. I haven't actually heard any boots from the actual show. Still, by the end of it I was finding all this DOTV crap a bit of a yawn. The precious little new stuff there was in the show was very weak (with the exception of Braver Than We Are) and all the re done stuff like Objects/Appetite and Original Sin were good to start with but lacked staying power for me. Admittedly I have never heard any from the actual show recordings, but I much prefer records to musicals.

Thanks so much Bohemian - so much info - I didn't expect it so quick listening to We Belong to the Night - Is there a Phil Spector influence there

This topic sent me off looking for sites, and I found a pretty good one at:
http://foleyzine.tripod.com/
A lot of it is "under construction" but what is there is pretty good- lots of scanned magazine articles and interviews.
Now, I watched "Night Court" for years and I never realized that was the same Ellen Foley! Duh!

Hey - funny you say this! I am really not sure about the histories of the people she made that album with, but to my ear it very definitely sounds like its influenced by the Phil Spector / John Lennon stuff of the early 70s. The arrangments are very Lennonish and the production is very reminiscent of the stuff Spector was doing with John on records like 'Rock And Roll'.

What's more, I read somewhere that Ian Hunter (co producer and keyboardist on Night Out) was now in or was in in the past Ringo Starr's all starr band. I havent yet bothered reading into it to see if it's true / the same guy but it would be interesting if it was. Small world.

Good to see there are others who love Ellen's stuff! I'm just about to go off and check out the link sherrie posted up - sounds great.
