A Question about Rock n Roll Mercenaries
Hi everybody,
I've received a question from one of Meat's Fans and have no clue. He wants to know who the song "Rock n Roll Mercenaries" is referring to. Does anyone of you have the answer? Thanks a lot Florence |

A Rock N Roll Mercenary is someone who is in the music business just to make money.
it's not for the song It's not for the love It's just for the gold and it's never enough. It's someone who has no passion for the work, it's just a means to an end to make themselves rich. I don't think the song is about any one person in particular. |

Thanks a lot for your explanations, it helps me to understand the meaning of the song better.
This fan seems to be thinking this song was written about one person in particular and is wondering who's Meat is targetting through it. I think it could be applied to a lot of people in music business... |

If Meat and John Parr had someone in mind, it wouldn't be someone they thought very highly of.
I don't think either of them would take such a public dig. Don't even think the "diss song" was around back then. Or I could be wrong and it's a hommage to David Sonenberg |

Not particularly helpful but I think Rock N Roll Mercs is a dreadful song. I'm glad Meat's proposed partnership with John Parr collapsed at such an early stage.

i wouldnt go so far as to call it dreadful, but it's definitely not one of my favourites. Although, if you compare it to the rest of BBIS...

I agree, it's not one of my favourites either. "Standing on the Outside" is a much better song on this album, in my opinion.

Execution Day is the best song on the album.

Rock N Roll Mercenaries may not be the best song ever, but it served it's purpose on that album. As for the partnership woth John Parr, have to disagree with you. I think John wrote some great songs Don't Leave Your Mark On Me (production aside) is a fantastic song, and Magical which Meat and John co-wrote which was recorded by Bucks Fizz of all people is superb (although the Bucks Fizz version is pants).
