Well, the CHSIB vinyl was ONLY released in Germany, I believe.

Yes I think Lucy pointed that out on here before. I've noticed on discogs many vinyl albums specifically not being released in the UK. Perhaps the take up was even less here than anywhere else.

Also to counteract my unavailability thing I guess Pandora's Box and bad for good were released in the 80s hence a lot more copies would have been produced. It is interesting though that for many big albums coming out now it seems vinyl is almost always an option.

I have Bat 3 on vinyl but have not played it yet. I got it of a woman locally who never played that or her copy of bat 2 which I bought too. I read about the latter being terrible on discogs since it is such a dense single record press fitting almost 40 minutes on each side. The volume is then reduced to make it fit and going by experience from the AFL single at least my turntable will present a terrible pre-echo (of the next groove I guess) which is very apparent during soft musical parts.

In contrast I also have a 12 inch album I bought from another artist recently which was done at 45rpm (double vinyl) to improve sound quality even more. Strangely I'm finding many new factory wrapped vinyls come with a lot of static straight out of the original sleeve. I've been investigating how to get rid of that and already found some ways but it is a bit disappointing since many second hand ones I've ordered through the internet don't have this problem so much.

Playing vinyl

Hi, can I ask those of you that play your vinyl what you use? I need a new record player but am finding it hard as most of them are for recording to MP3 these days. I need something stand alone that has good sound. Thanks

Anti-static brush and an acrylic platter - change over your standard record sleeves for anti-stat liners, and you should be good to go.

The bare minimum I'd recommend to get the benefit of vinyl:

1. Pro-ject Carbon Debut Esprit turntable (Or a Rega RP8 if you can stretch that far).
2. Ortofon Blue cartridge (bare minimum).
3. Cambridge 651A Amp (or equivalent).
4. Musical Fidelity V90 LPS phono stage
5. Wharfedale Diamond 220 speakers (bare minimum).

This set up will deliver these albums like you've never heard them before.

Get some good cable, and you're good to go.

EDIT: only just noticed that you said 'stand alone'. If you're looking for an 'all in one', forget it -- it'll sound better on mp3.

On another note, they're already listing vinyl copies of Braver Than We Are on Ebay :( They won't be shipped until after the CD is released .... but the prices are outrageous !

Is this an invitation to bidding for it? ;)

A copy of Neighbourhoud just went up on Discogs.
$900!

Posting here in case anyone is interested.

Too much for me to consider.
Happy with my almost complete Meat Loaf album vinyl collection (everything except Neighbourhood and Teddy Bear - don't particularly like that album anyway).

It's enough I think.

rockfenris2005 11 Dec 2016 10:32

That's ridiculous! I paid like $65 or something on eBay (albeit back in 2009 but still.)

proctorloaf 26 Dec 2016 11:54

Just bought it on Amazon for £40

2nd hand neighbourhood for that little?
Congrats!

Just received an unplayed mint condition copy of the holy grail.

The only vinyl album missing is Teddy Bear but I can live without that one. ;-)

Think my collection is thus pretty much complete. Might still go after the odd single but I've got most of the best quality ones it seems (12 inch 45s and 33s). Only some 45s remaining but many appear lousy quality from what I've heard so far due to cramming too much on such small discs.

I looked back in my records and I paid €65 for that one in August so you got a good deal for sure.
