Doesn't matter, still Tescos fault. I Still think if they had restocked then he would have been at 2 or 3.

Finally back in stock at Amazon UK, too (including the vinyl). Anyone else kicking themselves that this could've been a perfect no.1 exit for Meat? Damn those retailers :!:

being as his last two albums were not huge commercial successes it makes sense they under stocked.

Come on guys, be reasonable.

But similarly, a reasonable stockist should have taken into account an increased interest in this album considering Jim's name on the cover.

Yeah that's fine, but as they could see they were rapidly selling out, Amazon has obviously done a quick reorder of the CD as they restocked very quickly on the CD. But there's no excuse for Tescos and the like. Don't you think they monitor these things closely? It doesn't matter how they think something will do, if they see it's selling out they place a new order for them. Amazon got theirs in right away, no one else did for some reason.

Nobody except for music nerds know who Jim is.

Or anyone who bought Bat/Bat 2 and to some extent Bat 3. There is a reason why Bat 2 and 3 sold more than say HCTB and HIAH, and that reason was Jim. I wouldn't say nobody except music nerds know who he is - I would say people who might be tempted to buy a Meat Loaf album who would otherwise leave it know who Jim is.

Bat 3 sold a little less than Neighborhood actually. Bat 3 had the name Bat out of Hell. it didnt sell cause of Jim.

Braver's marketing is just better this go around than the previous 2 records.

Purely down to timescale. Neighbourhood was out less than 2 years after Bat2 - which I remember Meat saying himself was a very fast turnaround compared to his usual output - the 7 year gap to Couldn't Have Said It Better was testament to that.

And I agree the Bat name has an impact on sales, but again, people have come to expect a certain thing from those albums mainly because it is Meat and Jim.

And I'd be surprised if anyone who bought the album doesn't know who Jim is considering Meat has mentioned him ten times in every single interview and promo piece for the album.

In the end though, none of it matters. Meat had a solid number four last week and shifted over 100,000 copies across Europe. It would have been good to have had a higher placing, but I'm not sure how much weight chart position - be it album or single - holds these days. I suspect it is more about total sales, and on that score it clearly has been surpassing projections. :-)

Response option 1 "Wario in post's sense shock"

Response option 2 "Where's Wario, what have you done with him?"

:))

Those albums sold well not because of Jim's name, but the songs themselves. Did anyone buy TEOTH, MLOONAA or IACBTMN because it was Jim?

If someone is listening to a ML interview I would agree that they are ML fans and that they know who Jim is, but the majority of people who have bought a ML record have no clue who Jim is, despite his name being on the cover of at least half of those albums sold.

I found "Low stock" at Tesco on-line. You can still purchase. It does show though I think that people were waiting to buy, so promo and the mainly positive reviews from critics and fans alike must be working :-)

Yeah I'm in agreement with you on this. I think it'll be interesting to see how long it stays in those top ten places. Hopefully he can be in there for quite some time as the guy bloody deserves it.

As others have said the promo for the album seems to be far better than the last few. So hopefully it'll keep things up there.

It has a good chance to stay top 10 this week, at 10 in the midweeks.
Once it hangs around the top 100 for a while it will gather decent sales,
If Meat pops back over to do a few shows in October it would keep it going, unless of course he is getting hes health issues sorted.
But really this has got people talking, this album has people debating at least.

That's probably because everyone else gave up trying to get past their profanity bot. It won't even accept the word hell...which is a bit of a nightmare when talking about someone who's most famous work has it in the title.

Disappointing from tesco,

They could at least make the effort to get the normal CD in. I'm sure that would sell well on there as it has on Amazon.

That's a fair point. I simply meant once Tesco have sold out they won't be getting any more.

Hope you all got yours!
