Some time ago when checking out the Jim Steinman forum, there was mentioned a test http://www.politicalcompass.org one could take in order to gauge where they stand on the left-right and authoritarian-libertarian scales.

I've just taken this test, and got a result of -6.62, -5.64. Since discovering this test I've taken it a few times and have gotten slightly higher scores (closer to 0 for both) and am a bit surprised by the result this time.

If you go to the site, http://www.politicalcompass.org, there is a link to take the test, and information to explain what it all means.

Why not take it, and then we can compare ourselves with each other?

Both numbers range from -10 to +10, with -10 being VERY left wing in an economic sense, and +10 being VERY right wing economically. On the authoritarian-libertarian scale, a negative number means you are libertarian and probably believe in allowing people to make their own choices and take responsibility for their own personal lives, and a positive number means you probably think it's acceptable that a government should regulate what we do in some situations. As I said there is information at the website to explain scores, as well as a chart showing the possible scores of various politicians.

So heat, your score indicates that you are probably left wing or moderate socialist, and believe in some degree of personal autonomy, with limits.

I'd say the same for dottie, although your score indicates that you might believe that personal autonomy should be regulated by a government, that perhaps individuals can't always be trusted to decide what's good for them personally.
