I always like to hear an album through headphones when I get it, as I think it is by far the best way to hear it properly, but when I got CHSIB my proper headphones were broked.

Finally I have got them working again and this evening I listened to CHSIB through my headphones for the first time and WOW!

I have loved this album since its release, but this gave me a brand new passion for it. The different sections intertwining, sometimes just hidden in the background, are superbly done, and make this such a great piece of music.

If you have only heard this through the stereo or car, I streongly suggest getting out some decent headphones for a listen, it can transform the way you hear some tracks.

Well done to Fireball and all the producers once again for this album, the work you have done is simply amazing.

Badger, I totally agree. Each album has to get a proper listen with headphones before making any judgement on the quality of the music. I don't know what I would do without my headphones, it's the only way to listen to an album and experience all the ear candy. Course I love torturing the neighbors with a full volume stero blast as well.

Oy, I can't believe I haven't done this yet! I was so excited to hear the new album that I tend to play it in the car, when I'm cleaning the house, while doing dishes- basically any chance I get. What I haven't done yet is to just sit down with headphones and enjoy it. What the heck was I thinking? Now I'm really looking forward to this- I'll take some time this evening to just listen, rather than messing with that multitasking mess I've been doing.

I don't like headphones. And it isn't the best way to listen to music. I always prefer dolby surround speakers! I have all the songs copied to my hard disk and saved it as MP3 files. Then, I hear them via my 5.1 dolby surround sound system, which is connected to my PC. This is the very best way, music can ever be listened and it has the very best quality. It sounds as if you're standing in the middle of an orchestra.

I'm a big fan of headphones, but they have to be the huge DJ style ones and of good quality. Its amazing how much more you can pick up listening through them.

But it's also the reason why I can't hear well anymore! It's got to be everything louder than everything else! :D

That's the reason us DJ's lose our hearing (or at least a good deal of it) at a younger age if we've been in the studio a lot!

But I like listening to music in a good set of phones because I can just block everything out and listen to all the nuances of the music. (I know, big word for me.) You really can pick up more of the little things.

I listened to the whole CHSIB CD several times last night with headphones, and I noticed so much that I had not heard before. A short piano roll here, a guitar than runs from channel to channel, some cool vocal effects there- and that was with some truely cr*p headphones- someday soon I'll be getting some good headphones and I'm sure I'll hear even more little surprises! 8)

Sherrie,

You want a really good one to listen to with the phones ~ Elton John's Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding from Goodbye Yellowbrick Road! The Guitar work of Davey Johnstone and piano of Elton just gives me wonderful chills to listen. Just as much as listening to Home By Now/No Matter What. In fact, the first time I listened to AFL and HBN/NMW with just the phones on I cried by the time the songs were done because there was so much that pulls you emotionally to REALLY listen and allow yourself to get carried away. (And no, I wasn't on any drugs at the time either. )

I agree!

I find that headphones are better than listening through my stereo or tv, but when I listen/watch something with 5.1 surround sound, it's even better!

Headphones are a great way to listen to the songs. I partically enjoy listening to them walking down the street with my MP3 Player.

For music I think headphones are so much better than dolby. 5.1 is superb for films for the surround effect, same as SDDS etc, but you simply cannot physcally hear every aspect through speakers as some sound is lost before it gets to your ear. A proper set of large headphones, as opposed to earphones (which can still be cool though) directly put all of the music into your ear.

Seeing as a standard audio cd is never recorded in 5.1 anyway, nothing can be gained from it really (although I also have a 5.1 setup on my pc, i agree it rocks for dvds ;) )

I love Funeral for a Friend as well, its an extraordinary piece of music. I've always liked listening to music on the headphones they certainly bring new life to CHSIB.
PS This is my first post, it seems like a fun place.

Hey, welcome NP!

The cool thing is that Davey Johnstone was in the movie Roadie with Meat!
